https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2015/09/29/pff-nfl-power-rankings-for-week-4/

Safety Donte Whitner has nine runs stops which is tied for the most among all safeties. His run-stop percentage of 9.6 is tied for the best among safeties with at least 40 run defense snaps.

We are all over him for that missed tackle, but apparently he's been grading out well against the run.

The second thing I thought of is that the fact that he has 40 run defenses already says a lot about how poor our LB's are doing.

Whitner plays in the box a lot, so that explains why he is getting a lot of run stops.

He has given up several big plays, that is the major problem.

we're last in rushing yards allowed.

That's not my style thumbsup

My beef with Whitner this year is that he had no problem talking about who should be on the roster, yet he's been a weak link on our D so far this year. He's had a couple nice plays, but he's not tackling any better than anyone else. I'm still pissed he tried a shoulder chuck against Ivory in some feeble attempt to prevent the TD.

If this isn't putting lipstick on a pig, I don't know what is..... if your Safety is making that many stops in the run game, then the guys in front of him have got some issues.

That, or the scheme is totally bass-ackwards and not putting guys in a position to be successful against the look they are getting from the Offense.

Browns is the Browns

... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Read it again Purple. I pretty much agree with you. He shouldn't be getting that many chances to make the stop.

Many safeties play close to the line of scrimmage. Whitner is one of them.

Our defense has not looked much different over the years. Same issues every freakin year.

Heck we could put Mr Potential Rahim Abdullah and Big Money Warren in there this weekend and we wouldn't skip a beat.

All I know is what I see. He can't cover a TE with any kind of speed. He does not wrap up, and whiffs a lot. He might be around the ball, but I have seen him over run the play, get juked out of his socks, and cause Gipson to be knocked off the ballcarrier because he went for the shoulder tackle instead of wrapping up and helping Gipson make the stop. The goal line play was just another example.

He called out the offense in the first game, claiming it was the turnovers that lost the game, when in reality, his play was just as detrimental to the lose.

He needs to shut his trap, and perform like a probowler, or I would like to see him replaced. I would like to add that those stats do include him jumping on the pile or coming in after the tackle is being made.

j/c:

I'm suggest deviating from Donte Hitner to Donte Whiffner.

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Nice! I had thought about Donte Missner myself...

thought I heard on the radio that he also has the second highest number of missed tackles for a Safety? Can anyone confirm or provide plausible denial on that?
