Originally signing him wasn't too much of an intrigue to me ... but this kind of is

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Well, it won't be Davis (just signed) and who wants McCown? So are you suggesting Manziel?

Not sure if this is true, but according to this site.....

McCown to the Steelers. They want a fill-in for Big Ben ... and we want the chance to finally beat them naughtydevil

I thought the same thing. Maybe the Browns have just had enough of the drama and want to move forward with a clean slate and a common purpose. Its not even Manziel's fault at this point (although last year was), but the distractions and divisiveness that accompany him are more than this organization can bear. Maybe the TMZ report was accurate, and the last straw? Just noodling, but I can see it being the case.

The Chiefs just extended Tyler Bray through the 2017 season a month ago and he's their 4th stringer

I like this extension. Davis looked decent when he played for St. Louis. I'm not saying he's starting material (although he may be), but I think he is at least a solid backup.

MKC is reporting the Browns liked him since last year, so there's that.

Considering we gave 9 million to a receiver we aren't going to use, 4 million for a quarterback we aren't going to use seems cheap.

Not sure either, but it sounds like they think he's got something they need... like skills LOL

Seriously, do team usually sign a third stringer to a deal like this?

Interested to see if there is any quaranteed money to this contract. If not, it's pretty much just a "promise ring". rofl

LOL.......that was funny.

I am wondering about something, though:

If you were in the league office, would you be suspicious of all the moves the Browns are making while Farmer is suspended? Would you wonder if Farmer was actually following the terms of his suspension?

I really hope we don't read about the NFL busting Farmer again. I'm pretty tired of all the negative news we make.

It's all about how much is guaranteed, but going from a guy getting cut making a minimum to 2mil/year is very generous. Assuming he doesn't play this year, how much do you think would the open market have given him? Like the minimum? I doubt they would throw 2y/4mil at him

Yep, we're still run by idiots. That or we have to severely overpay 3rd string QBs now to play like a Brown

Yes. Not so much the stuff that was done the first week, but an extension right now? I mean, if they are following players' instagrams to test people for booze when they get off the flight after the season ends, you can be sure this is on their radar.

If Haslem wants him out, having a plausible reason to fire him like the league office finding improprieties in Farmers actions while suspended is a win/win for Haslem in saving face. [/tin foil hat on]

I'm not surprised because the guy standing in for Farmer is Bill Kuharich, who did a good job for the Chiefs while Farmer was still learning.

Bill Kuharich info. L

I don't know that it means all that much other than we like him enough to be our 3rd string.

He has 4 accrued seasons already, so he is a vested veteran and his minimum salaries over the 2016-17 seasons account for $1.5 million of that. He got $500k signing and there are a total of $600k in guarantees. Even if the signing bonus isn't part of the $600k in guaranteed money, we're only at a total of $2.6 million.

Sounds to me like there are a whole lot of performance escalators in there, probably tied to playing time.

The NFL doesn't really care. It's just a show for the suspending the GM in the first place. They know the GM is going to have contact with team. As long as he is stupid enough not to get caught (with Farmer this might be a stretch) then the NFL will go along with the charade.

It doesn't mean anything other than we always start at least 3 different QBs every year because of injury/ineffectiveness. Austin will be a starter by the end of the year it's that simple.

So sick of this TMZ thing already. Not a knock on you guys...

How many people are on an NFL roster? Are we to believe a MAJORITY are openly griping about the QB? Even half? So dumb . . .

I agree with you.

As to this thread, we signed our 3rd string guy to an extension. Naturally, some fans have him starting pretty soon, as we trade every other QB on the roster. crazy

Fan definitely is short for fanatic. rofl

I for one never thought he'd really be out of contact for 4 weeks.. Never believed it. I thought for sure he's got a throw away cell phone and is being called by someone (or several someones) in the Front Office with another throw away cell phone.

The NFL will have hell to pay trying to track that down.

My only surprise is that anyone actually believed he'd be kept out of touch with the team....

I don't know if Farmer is smart or not. Based on his draft picks it seems like he is not smart, but he is smart enough to convince other smart people that he should have the job he currently has.

With that said, if were to get caught communicating with the team his career as a GM would be over. Not only that, but my guess is that the team would face heavy sanctions as well.

Even if the chances were 0.000000000001%, the risk would still outweigh the reward.

I doubt anyone actually believes he'd be out of contact, including the NFL. The punishment is purely for show because the thing got blown out of whack in the media, so the league had to make a show of pretending to care.

I would not be surprised at all if Kuharich & his wife has been over to Farmer's house for dinner once or twice a week lately; at which point I'm sure there is the tendency for a little "shop talk".... or perhaps he & Kuharich happen to be part of the same running group for their morning jogs?

Scene: Ray Farmer is out walking his dog.

Ray: Hmm, I should write down some notes of what I would do IF I was in the office this week.
** Ray Begins to write things down on a piece of paper.
-- Extend Davis' contract

** Ray continues walking, and does not notice he drops his note.

** Kuharich Enters from stage right.
Bill: Oh, litter. I will pick it up and take it to my office to "dispose" of.
