It looks like his induction into the Major League Baseball HOF is going to be considered again by current commissioner Rob Manfred.

I was never a big fan of Rose. Especially when his collision with Cleveland all-star catcher Ray Fosse in the 1970 all-star game ended Fosse’s career.

Although, I did follow and root for Rose’s 44-game hitting streak in 1978.

I’m not well read on exactly what Rose’s offense was.

But if the idea is that he’s banned from the Hall of Fame for doing something bad, shouldn’t OJ Simpson be kicked-out of the NFL HOF?

I imagine Rose is a jerk. But I’d like to see him in the HOF.

Don't care either way. I guess by the law of the rule he shouldn't be permitted into the HOF; however, I wouldn't care if he was allowed.

But I do think if you let him in then you should let Shoeless Joe and any player who did PED's ... and yes, I know Pete's gambling never affected his stats/play on the field ... JMO

I was a big Pirates fan. Roberto Clemente was my all-time favorite player. I despised the Reds and did not like Pete Rose at all.

However, the guy played hard. He overachieved. He put up great numbers and when all is said and done, I think he deserves to be in the HOF.

I would BET if you DUG OUT some literature on him you would find why he's been banned..

Simpson's offense didn't have anything to do with his playing career. He was also already in the HoF when he got acquitted of his first charges.

If Rose never bet against a team he played for or managed, then I say let him in already. However, if he bet against a team he played for or managed, then no way do I let him in.

Yep, big Rose fan. The man is the all time hits leader. All time, nobody better, ever, before or since. How do you not have that man in the hall of fame?

I was very young but I had an autographed poster of Clemente that he signed the season before he died...

As for Rose, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it one way or the other but I would not be offended if he was put in the HoF.

When I was a kid playing Little League I had a Roberto Clemente bat which I cherished. I was not a Pirates fan but was a Clemente fan. When I got older I gave it to a little kid. Kinda wish I'd kept it.

I agree that Pete Rose should be in the HOF. I understand the rules against gambling. But gambling is one thing and playing is another. They are not related. He played well enough to be in the hall.

I feel like hes gained more publicity over his life by not being in the HOF.

I honestly dont see the point of putting him in anymore.

The trouble with Rose is that he told the truth slowly, and in snippets, as questions came up. First it was "I placed bets, but never on baseball.". Then, when they found out he had bet on baseball, it became "Okay, I bet on baseball, but never on Reds games.". Then, when they found out he had bet on Reds games, Rose said "Yeah, but I never bet on the Reds to lose.".

You start wondering when you can believe him, since he lied all along the way.

That is all besides the point anyway. Everyone in MLB knows from the get-go that consorting with gamblers is grounds for banishment from the game. Not a fine; not a suspension; banishment, as in forever. The reason for this simple: unless you're in Vegas (and probably even there), when you gamble, you are consorting with organized crime. The types of people who, if you get in arrears with, are going to insist on payment in one form or another. You either come up with the money right now, or you help The Company recoup their losses with an altered outcome in a game.

It opens up a whole world of corruption which, if left to its own devices, would destroy your game, like the 1919 Black Sox Scandal almost did.

I don't think Pete Rose is a bad man, I think he is a bit of an idiot, because he knew all along what would happen if he got caught. This is one rule where I believe MLB has to have a zero tolerance approach.

And then trying to turn your "I'm sorry, I really did bet on games" into a book sale doesn't help your argument..

DC: do you still have the poster? It's probably worth quite a bit.

ddub: I had a Clemente bat, also. 34 oz w/a big, thick handle. LOL, probably not the right bat for me, but I loved that bat and hit the crap out of the ball w/it.

Well, he was one of the best to ever play the game, and there's no evidence he ever threw a game. He should be in the HOF.

Don't care about him at all.

In my mind, he should be kept out of the HOF at least as long as Shoeless Joe. When Joe gets in, start the clock. When

Joe had the highest batting average of anyone in that World Series (outside of a couple guys who went 1 for 2 and a Red who went 4 for 6), and made no errors, but got banned for throwing games.

I believe Dowd had evidence of him betting on all sports, other baseball teams, the Reds to win, and the Reds to lose. All but one of those Rose lied about for years and then eventually admitted to doing it. I can't understand how anyone would believe he didn't bet on the Reds to lose too.

I hope they refuse reinstatement now and after he finally passes too. He should never be enshrined. Sure, put up a plaque about his accomplishments and the horrible mistakes he made so he can "be in the HOF", but never as a member.

Nope. I don't care about him at all.

When I think about "sports with integrity", I rank MLB about even with the WWE/WWF. They're consistently corrupt and enable cheating while fostering an environment where the larger markets can dominate easily, yet they want me to think that they're actually taking a noble stance here? I don't buy it.

Hey I'm not a Pete Rose fan....but the facts are.....the collision didn't end Fosse's career. Fosse had a long history of injuries before and after 1970. He batted nearly 300 in the second half of 1970 season playing in 42 games. He played a couple more years and sustained more serious injuries that really ended his career.

And to clear the record Fosse sustained a separated shoulder during the collision with Rose. It was misdiagnosed by doctors and wasn't discovered to the end of the season and had healed incorrectly. Also the collision was on the last play of the game and it's clear Pete was going for the win and Fosse stepped up into the slide area as Pete was about to go into his famous head first slide but ended up bowling Fosse over instead.

But I'm sure the facts won't change anybody's mind though.

Won't change my mind. The last Indians Championship was 8 years before I was born. I don't care about no facts. I was 13 when Rose ended Fosse’s career.

Sure sounds like an improperly healed separated shoulder is at the very least career impeding. What are you a Rose fan?

Just a comment. The HOF is only concerned with what players do during their career. I can't think of any case where a player has been kicked out of the HOF of their sport for things they did after induction.

As for Rose, I don't care one way or another if he gets in or not. Baseball has been pretty touchy about the gambling issue.

I think there is far less evidence that Shoeless Joe did anything to throw a World Series than there is about Rose gambling on games. I will say for the record I don't believe Rose ever did anything to lose a game. I don't think that happened.

First, I'd rather see Joe get in. In the Series he is said to have thrown, he hit around .375, had no errors, and his total hits during the series was a record that stood for about 45 years.

I remember back in the 70's when Edward DeBartolo wanted to buy the Indians and the MLB owners rejected his application because he owned Thistledown Race Track. He then bought the SF 49ers. It kind of makes me sick to think about the years of contending Indians teams we could have had, having a committed owner with deep pockets for all those years before Jacobs bought the Tribe.

I don't think much of Pete Rose as a person, but I think baseball should put him in Cooperstown. The man paid for his sins.

How can you have a HOF and not have the guy with the most hits in it? The HOF has a lot of scumbags. Ty Cobb for one. Let Pete in, he earned it.

He gave up that privilege, stressing that it's not a right, when he bet on baseball as a manager of a big league team. He EARNED this lifetime banishment.

Like I said above, give him a plaque or even a huge display to commemorate his career and terrible decisions. He can be "in the HOF" while not having been enshrined. Simple if you ask me.

And as for those scumbags, they didn't break baseballs cardinal rule.

I never thought Pete Rose was smart. In fact, I always thought he was really dumb. Now I think he is even more dumb than I ever thought. What a dunce.
