Report: Dolphins fire Joe Philbin after 1-3 start, install TE coach as interim - CBSSports.com
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25328214/report-dolphins-fire-joe-philbin

To the surprise of almost no one, the Dolphins fired Joe Philbin on Monday morning according to multiple reports.

Dan Campbell, the Dolphins tight end coach, is expected to serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Philbin's tenure as Miami's coach was entirely underwhelming, with the former Packers quarterbacks coach going 24-28, somehow surviving the Richie Incognito bullying scandal and ensuing Wells Report.

"To the surprise of almost no one..."

Haha yep! That was one firing rumor/gossip that I believed 100% when the reports started coming out.

How long until the Packers hire Philbin on as a "consultant?"

The Bills are going to pick him up to reunite him with Incognito.

I was going to try and make a joke about "can" and "Dolphin" .... but all I could think of was tuna, and Parcells isn't involved with the Dolphins. crazy

He could be our next coach when we clean house at the end of the year.

keep the streak going of hiring everyone else's rejects, and hope to get a better result.

And people think we are a mess (we probably are a mess, just not to this extent):

Quote:
It was an extremely tense week in London surrounding the Miami Dolphins prior to them being embarrassed by the New York Jets and subsequently firing coach Joe Philbin upon their return to the United States.

Frustrations have been mounting for weeks, and escalated Saturday during practice prior to the game. Philbin has also been struggling on how to handle his franchise quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, who had been getting rattled even in practice sessions.

On Saturday during practice, Tannehill, after a couple of practice squad players forced turnovers, Tannehill made negative comments toward them, including saying: “Enjoy your practice squad paycheck, enjoy your practice squad trophy.”

Sources say this has been going on for the past few weeks as the practice squad players have been intercepting Tannehill and frustrating the former Texas A&M wide receiver turned quarterback.

The frustration for Tannehill stemmed from the entire situation as well as the Dolphins haven’t won a game since the season-opener. Tannehill is an extremely competitive person, and the struggles of the offense have angered him significantly.

Philbin told the practice squad players to take it easy on Tannehill to not affect the young quarterback’s confidence.

However, that didn’t prove to be an effective strategy.

That's just so incredibly pathetic on so many different levels. Makes me feel a bit better about our dysfunctions, honestly.

Personally I never cared for Tannehill. I thought he was over drafted. He's put up better numbers than I ever thought he would but I still don't see him as a legit QB that can lead a team to a championship.
The Dolphins over paid for Suh. They lost their safety net receiver in Hartline. No real running threat. A TE that's a slap from a Girlscout from his next concussion. Philbin may not have been the answer but he was also not the only problem.

Ya gotta wonder what Jordan Cameron is thinking now. He went from the frying pan into the fire. Oh well, he got a paycheck I guess.

It was being reported on my NFL phone app that if they lost, Philbin could be fired... no surprise

you hear stuff like that and you gotta question the leadership of the team. QB talking crap to your practice squad dbs is just amateurish. The head coach aloowing the stuff is equally as bad especially considering the OL issues they just had.

Anyway, Pet is probably next on the list.

I wonder what Geno Smith would tell Tannehill about how he was talking to them . . .

I've lived in 6 NFL markets and currently live just outside of NYC. Every team that isn't either elite or doing relatively well at that moment is seen by its fans and the media as a "dysfunctional mess". The Browns are no different than the Texans, Dolphins, Bears et al. There's differences of course but the reality is you're either among the top 6-10 team or you're a "mess".

I never liked him, but he has done better than I thought he would. He's better in areas I thought he would struggle in on the field, however, it does seem like he lacks in the area I thought he would be strong in.(leadership and such)

Hopefull jimmy is taking notes of this mess, we have looked far worse then the Dolphins, at this point maybe he will can Pettine and just let Farmer take over for the rest of the year, it couldn't be any worse. Its obviousl to me Pettine can't coach anyways after the garbage we have saw the last two weeks anyways these guys don't even look like a pro team.

Are you saying Farmer should act as the coach? If I'm reading that incorrectly, who would you have replace him for the rest of the season?

I was kidding, but honestly, Jimmy should just can Pettine right now and hand over the team to John DeFilippo longterm.

Defilippo is young at 37 years old, was born and raised in Youngstown Ohio, he has roots and connections here, and Browns football is important to him.

I think this team would respond to him far better then it does to Pettine. Also, Deflippio doesn't have an Ax to grind with Manziel like Pettine does as Deflippio has spoken very high of Manziel and i get the impression the only reason he isn't starting is because of Pettine.

No need to hire a new coahc next year, just hand Deflippio the job longterm and move forward and at the end of the year let John decide on his own staff and move forward from there.

im 100% certain this team would respond much better to Flip, Flip also has a much more animated personality and actually gives the Browns an identityto build around.

just my 2 cents

I respectfully disagree. The guy being from the area means nothing. That might help in recruiting in college, but it does no good in the NFL. In terms of head coaches, Pettine is very young. DeFillipo's highest position before heading to the Browns was offensive coordinator at San Jose State for a couple of years. He doesn't have any experience that says he'd worth handing an entire pro football team to. He might be a good head coach in the future, but he isn't ready for something like that right now. I also don't think the team would respond to him better than they do Pettine. We really don't know what the players think of Pettine, everything on that front is speculation by us. IF the Browns decide to fire Pettine, it shouldn't be until the season is over and viable candidates are available.

Actually one knows he's frustrated. I believe that goes without saying. But see, that's kind of the point.

When you get frustrated and allow that to cause you to be rude and insulting to others, that's pretty much the definition of a jerk IMO

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

QB is not the problem on this team right now .... the defense and run game are.
