i only saw the last few minutes of the game, i had a hockey game of my own tonight...
what the hell? donyell marshall, 18 points??
what a lift for this team if he can get going...
just from the look of the box score, the nets got knocked around by the cavs defense...
this cavs defense, everything considered, with their offensive woes, is the best defense in the league right now, this is downright amazing...
new jersey is no juggernaut, but their backcourt is as good as it gets, and the cavs have taken it to them, even in game 5 they gave themselves a chance by not allowing anything...
the key to the pistons series will be keeping it close, if every game is close, the cavs can easily win that series... and detroit knows that, which is why they try and blow us out...
does anyone know when game 1 is?

Thankfully the local guys Fred McCloud,Austin Carr, and Scott Williams did the play by play on Fox Sports Ohio here...I detest the national media guys passionately.
BTW...looks like our old buddy from the Plain Dealer Roger Brown was wrong...again.He predicted the Nets to win in six. What a dipstick.
Off to Detroit.LETS GO CAVS!!!

Soup has also disappeared.
I thought he said there was NO WAY we get any further in the playoffs with our cast of characters.

Congrats to the Cavaliers, first ECF since 1992. Great victory, now lets get down to business and take it to the 'Stons.

i'm looking forward to it...
the pressure is on the pistons...
and with flip saunders, it's only a matter of time before he buckles under the pressure...
mike brown is a better coach than flip saunders...
the cavs know what they need to do, i believe detroit went to 18-0 all time in series after they take a 2-0 lead... the cavs gotta grab one, grabbing that first one sends a pretty big message...
the cavs winning on the road is a sign of maturity... remember when we couldn't buy a win on the road? now they're coming easier than home games... that is the sign of a team growing....

There are quite a few guys on the message board that like to pick out the weakest links of the team, claim they are the "worst players ever" and then pat themselves on the back when we lose. (Which due to basic probability is very likely) ... of course if we win, everyone is too busy celebrating to call them out for their crap.

Cavs vs. Pistons has me worried. What Detroit team will we see? 1.) Team that struggled 2 games in a row to beat Chicago 2.) The team that absolutely smashed Chicago the first 3 games and swept Orlando like they were little kids I really really hope we NEVER see #2...

orlando managed to stay in almost all of those games..
with detroit, you have to weather the storm...
i think you stay agressive too, chicago was running all over them in game 5, and billups got into foul trouble, and from there the pistons could never get back into it...
they might fit the mold of the true "team", but chauncey billups is the guy that it starts with... if they can give him fits, get him into foul trouble, we'll be ok...
also, everyone, including the bonheads at espn, say the pistons are better than they were last year... maybe offensively, but if you look at the cavs series last year, and the defense shown in that game 7, they can't do that anymore, not without ben wallace, and certainly not with chris webber... the cavs benefited the most out of wallace signing with the bulls, even more than the bulls...
the cavs HAVE to make detroit pay for not having ben wallace, their best help defender is gone, and the cavs should have more opportunities... make chris webber pay for being a horrible defender... because that's exactly what he is...
the cavs have to keep their compusure, and not panic...
we have a great defense and a great frontcourt... we're the equivalent of an old school football team, run the ball and play defense...
and those kinds of teams fall flat on their face when they panic and start passing the ball around, which would be the equivalent of hoisting up 3's...
but even with that, the cavs team can be predictable, so at times, they should take a page out of the golden state playbook and shoot the 3 in transition... doing that all the time is bad news, but doing it at the right times can kill a team, because detroit will try and do that with us...
detroit ain't the home team that they used to be... part of that is that their defense is not as good, the cavs have to step up right away...

I'm starting to think it's his defense mechanism. If we win, then he can celebrate ... If we lose, he can pat himself on the back for being right about us losing.

what about donyell? yeah he had a good game, finally..doesn't mean anything really tho, had we not blown a 22 point lead, it woudln't have mattered. And this is the biggest knock about him, its not that he can't shoot, but he goes weeks without making an impact. It was a fun game to watch sans 3rd quarter. Still don't think mike brown is a good coach. even the Cleveland announcers were calling him out. I am most impressed with DJ(whom i've said should be getting minutes over hughes) and boobie, that kid has finally gotten his confidence back. Looked nice and relaxed. Still don't think we have the horses to get past detroit, i say we win 2 at home against them. I will however give mike brown props for finally realizing LH is a turd and pulling him. LH needs to be alot more consistent for 60 mil. So don't act like you are calling anyone out. esp me

yeah they are not the same as the championship team, but make no mistake they are better top to bottom than we are with a stronger bench. Our X factor is Lebron and defensive intensity, those two things happen, we make it interesting.

they are the better team... but that gap is not nearly as big as it was last year...
remember, the pistons only won 53 games this year, that's only 3 more than the cavs...
the pistons have the advantage in the backcourt... the cavs frontcourt is significantly better...
defensively, we're better... sounds weird, but it's true, throwing 3 guys at lebron isn't great defense, that's just forcing someone else to beat you...
i agree, lebron has to be outstanding, that 41 point overtime game at the palace back in march is what we need almost every game in this series...
z has to get his, drew has to get his double double, the bench has to get theirs...
they have to stay the course, and not panic early on...
and they need a good start, the cavs got an early lead in their only win this year against detroit, that keeps you in the game...
the cavs should be playing for the chance to battle in the 4th quarter, where they've got it etched into their heads that nobody scores on them...

I'm almost one of these guys,....but I don't even pretend to know enough to pick out weak links, nor boo poor performance. We have what we have, and Detroit is what they are. You just have to hope we show up at peak RPM's and that the Pistons simultaneously run out of gas,...I just don't see it happpening. AND I WANT TO BE WRONG !!
Go Cavs

yeah i agree with a couple points, the biggest things being, 1. BE CONSISTENT. That means everyone, especially Z and hughes. Z has a habit of disappearing as the playoffs go on, See NJ series. Hughes needs to give us something, anything. If not, Its up to MB to make the pull early and get someone in there to provide something. Looks like DG might be that guy. 2. Don't get scared. For some reason the pistons scared the cavs in the past, they need to just have the intestinal fortitude to drive on even when things are going great.. with that being said, i really don't know how any of us can see how this series is going to go, sure its a rematch of last year, but at the same time, this is the ECF, there is tons at stake here, knowing that they have a chance to make history. And honestly, if we get past detroit, i think we match up well against either of the western teams.

i don't know if you'll read this SOUP, but you are the worst predictor ever...i have seen game after game your complaints of this guy and that guy being the worst...i have seen game after game of you throwing in the towel well before it's time...
i don't know whether you're just high-strung, living in the moment 150%, or whether you really don't know when a game is truly out of reach/lost...either way, just stop making predictions...you'll save yourself much embarssment...
Browns fans are born with it...

Well....we can definitley win this series but some things will have to fall into place in order for us to do so. It was great timing to get contributions from our bench last night. We potnetially added another 3 players that Detroit will have to account for in their defensive end. One game at a time. Defense first, limit our turnovers and give ourselves a chance in the 4th quarter. It is very doable.

Umm.. Good call...
Great win for the Cavs. I remember watching a John Lucas led team fall short of 20 wins 5 years ago and to think we've come this far. I can't wait for this series with the Pistons. If it's anything like last year it's going to be fantastic (although a win this time around would be kinda nice).
The Cleveland Cavaliers are among the NBA's final four and, despite a seemingly unlimited amount of criticism all year long, all that's left to do is win 8 more games. That's it.. Let's go get those damn Pistons.
Go Cavs!
Time and change will surely show How firm thy friendship O - HI - O

Who knew? Damon Jones comes in and plays defense. Boobie Gibson puts the threes on the platter and Donyell Marshall turns the spigot...

On another note, is anyone else tired of ESPN saying, "Can Lebron pull a Dwyane Wade in the post-season?" Do any of those idiots realize his center is future HOF'er Shaq? Wade wouldn't sniff the post-season without Shaq.

J/C Remember, this is the same team who we literally had shaking in their boots (admitted by them) last year when we almost took them down. The Pistons are very beatable when they go up against us...the problem is consistancy. If we could remain consistant, we'd take them. But just like any good team does, they take advantage of mistakes which our young team does do a lot. However, like I said, we can beat them as long as things don't get too crazy. Last year there was a lot of nervous energy that was associated with our run. Pretty much the entire team was in uncharted territory. We were a very young and inexperienced team that grew up a LOT from their experiences in the playoffs. Even with those jitters and inexperience, we almost took down the mighty giant. Now it is that same team that has gained a lot more experience and confidence going up against a weaker Pistons team (IMO). No matter how much ESPN downplays us in this series, it still has the #1 and #2 seeds in the conf. They sure seemed to pass us off like we were nothing in the last series but I like that. There's no pressure associated with being the underdog

i couldn't agree more...
and it'd be easier for lebron to pull a "wade" if he got all the crap calls that wade got in last year's playoffs... any time that dude was even breathed on going to the basket he got a whistle...

He reminds me of someone trying to compensate for being made fun of or who was picked last as a kid or something...that and he looks like he should have a III or IV after his name.
I do love me some Woody Paige.
Anywho, directly after losing Game 7 last year, I told my buddy 'Next year we better make it to the Eastern Conference Finals. We can lose and I'm alright with that, but progress is the Conference Finals'...so safe to say I'm pretty proud of this season...it's eerily reminiscent of the situation young Jordan had to overcome (I'm sure the press will suck all the pulp out of that one)...but he had to fight with the Bad Boys for quite some time to get out of the East...and we may have to tangle with the Pistons for a few more years (provided they can keep their core intact) before we can get out of the East. But we're a capable team if we're firing on all cylinders...

jordan took 4 tries i believe... didn't win his first championship until his 6th year, and by that time he was almost 28, with all the comparisons to jordan, you've gotta remember lebron is only 22, despite being in his 4th season already...
the pistons don't scare me as much as they did last year, when they finished with a much better record, and their defense was as good as it got, with ben wallace...
with that being said, detroit is still the better team, but we should be right their behind them, with a 7 game experience with them last year, i feel good about the series...
but the big question is, with how good they have been defensively in the 4th quarter, can they battle through those first three so they get a chance to flex their defensive muscles and win the game? they have to weather the storm...
larry hughes has gotta step up, he's got to knock down his jumpers and at least attempt to drive to the basket and get fouls, he's gotta make chauncey billups work...
lebron and tayshaun prince will be a key matchup as well, we know lebron can torch prince for 30/40 points on 4 of 5 nights, but he's got to do his job at the other end and keep prince in check...
if donyell marshall's performance the other night sparked him into being a better shooter, that makes this whole series interesting
i really want to see gibson get signifcant time, because he seems like he's willing to take big shots, he's very confident, but as a two guard (mike brown won't let him play the 1 and run the offense, and rightfully so, he's not quite ready for that just yet) he's going to have to match up with rip hamilton, and at the defensive end, that scares me, because i'm not quite sure gibson can handle him... if he proves he can, you've gotta keep him in there...
i really want to see a good game tomorrow night, not having homecourt may actually benefit the cavs, because they're becoming a very good road team, and they're also struggling a bit more at home then they did last year, and on the flip side, detroit has really struggled at home, but they've been good on the road...
and with lebron, will we see that playoff monster he was last year now that he's this close to being in the finals? you've seen in with superstars in the history of this league that when they get this close, they really turn it on, the cavs have been able to grind out wins with lebron playing his usual all around game, but without the 40+ points he was scoring last year... if he turns it on, the cavs are dangerous...
i think we're well prepared for this series though, detroit's strength is their backcourt, and we just dealt with one of the best backcourts in the league with kidd/carter/jefferson, so i think our defenders are ready...
mike brown has been great with adjustments too... everyone was spelling doom and gloom after the horrible game 5 at home, while everyone was ready to jump off a bridge, mike brown made his adjustments, got his guys ready, and went out and won a huge road game... he's a very good coach, you can see that he was tutored very well by popovich and carlisle...
the biggest weakness of this team is flip saunders... mike brown outcoached him in that series last year, despite not winning the series... brown was clearly 2 steps ahead of him at all times, and it came down to execution, and the cavs showed inexperience... now they know...
flip saunders has a long history of choking away series', minnesota had all those playoff troubles, despite having very good teams, he didn't get out of the first round all those years, and the one year he didn't he had a team that should have won the entire thing... when they finished with that top seed...

j/c...
I'm not going back and reading the whole thread, but I'm sure someone brought up how I said I thought we wouldn't beat the Nets. I was wrong, and I'm darn happy about it!
Detroit is going to be tough. I don't see us winning that series. But, I've been wrong before... let's hope I am again! Go Cavs!
