Bengals second-year linebacker A.J. Nicholson was arrested at 3:10 p.m. today and is being processed at the Kenton County jail on a domestic violence assault charge.
Taylor Mill police arrested Nicholson after he allegedly punched a woman in the eye at his apartment in the Farm Apartments complex on Old Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill Police Chief Steve Knauf said.
Police receiver a 911 call from the woman, who said she had been assaulted. She was in Nicholson’s apartment, but he was not there when the officer arrived. Officer Roberts saw the injury to the woman’s eye, which was consistent with her statement, Knauf said.
Later, “He winds up at our police department, and the officer who responded the call was there. She placed him under arrest,” Knauf said.
The woman did not want to press charges, but Kentucky law allows police to make an arrest and press charges if they have evidence, the chief said.
Nicholson is being held at this hour at the Kenton County Detention Center and awaiting pre-trial services to set bond.
Nicholson is being charged with fourth degree assault. It is a misdemeanor. Punishment can be up to 12 months in jail and-or a $500 fine.
The Bengals’ policy is not to comment on ongoing legal situations involving a player, public relations director Jack Brennan said this afternoon.
This brush with the law is not the first for Nicholson since he was drafted by the Bengals in April 2006.
Nicholson was one of nine Bengals players previously arrested since Jan. 1, 2006. He avoided jail time in Tallahassee, Fla., but had to serve 60 days in a sheriff’s work program and go on probation for two years for breaking into the apartment of a former Florida State teammate.
Nicholson and an accomplice stole electronics worth $1,700 from the apartment in May 2006, less than a month after the Bengals drafted Nicholson in the fifth round. He pleaded no contest to burglary and grand theft charges in February 2007.
Nicholson and the accomplice took electronic equipment and other items from the apartment of former Seminoles teammate Lorenzo Booker and his two roommates, according to authorities.
Nicholson, a fifth-round draft pick of the Bengals last year, had a history of off-field problems at Florida State. He was suspended for the 2006 Orange Bowl after violating team policy by taking a woman to the team’s Miami hotel. She accused him of sexual assault, but Nicholson was not charged.
" just look at our record. yes we have sucked!" GMdawg - 02/20/15 07:10 AM
They are off the pace of last season when they established themselves as the team to beat in the penal league. The pace they are cutting this year, it will be a lot harder for them to repeat as champions of the Ohio penal league.
Yeah kinda like the Browns finishing last in the AFC North again...what else is new? A.J Nicholson was going to eventually get cut anyhow with the adddition of Eddie Hartwell and the return of Odell Thurman. He isn't going to be missed.
This one kind of made me laugh when I saw it on ESPN...Nicholson probably doesn't give a crap because he was not only likely not to make the team but he probably wasn't going to make the practice squad either...Hence, I dont think he sees much of a future in the NFL anyway...He's a waste of memory space on my Madden Game also..
This only paves the way for Earl Everett to have a better shot at making the roster..Which is something I would love to see..In case some of you dont' know who he is, he's the guy that gave Troy Smith nightmares in the Nat'l Chapionship Game...

It doesn't matter how GOOD the player was. The fact is, you guys don't CARE about a players character before you draft them. Quit making excuses about how bad he was. The bottom line is that you have a team of thugs who make the NFL look bad.
"The Browns are a club contenders probably don't want to face right now. Their physicality cannot be questioned."
Hey Bigshot, its a leaguewide issue, not just in Southern Ohio. What you fail to see is that the Bengals have players of character that the national media fails to share. Nobody wants to hear about a Chad Johnson going to Africa and supplying soccar equipment to impoverished villages. Nobody wants to hear about Chad Johnson flying Bengals fans to away games like the Saints and providing hotel and game tickets. I guess its our loss we don't have "good guys" like Charlie Frye who are inept on the football field...........
I love how you keep trying to turn this debate into a performance issue. It's not about performance. Its about how your team does not have standards set when it comes to character. Who are you to talk about inept performance anyway, Bengal? You act like you guys are frigin super bowl champions... News Flash: You MISSED the playoffs last year.
Oh yeah, what Chad Johnson did was so admirable! How about he donates a million dollars to a scholarship fund. Then we will talk!

While I think it is great that Chad Johnson gives back, there is only 1 team in the league that has had the disciplinary problems to such an extreme magnitude, and that's the Bengals. Not 32 teams, not even 2 teams. Just 1. That speaks volumes.
If this were the Browns, instead of trying to defend them, I'd admit it was a problem, voice my displeasure with it, and hope they fix the problem. I'd also be a little embarrassed.
You chose to take the road that your team can do no wrong. But you are much like them. You constantly stir trouble yet defend your actions like you're just an inquiring mind. You and the Bengals are a great match.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

You have plenty of inept football players, especially on defense. That is why you went 8-8 with one of the best offenses in the leauge. You are right that no attention gets paid to those great citizens on your team as well as the NFL in general.
The fact is the Bengals continually draft known character problems and you guys reap what you sow. Whoever is making these decisions should be fired. That would probably go a long way in changing your teams reputation as well if you guys actually let some of your worse offenders go.
I can admit the Bengals drafted some players that were "risks". But the Bengals weren't the only NFL team that had players with run in's with the law. The San Diego Chargers had 7 players who made the news in 2006. But for some reason,it easily forgottten. To this day,I don't regret the Bengals drafting Odell Thurman, and Chris Henry. Without those 2,we don't make the playoffs in 2005. Sometimes, huge risk equals huge reward...you either hit a home run or strike out. If the Bengals didn't draft Henry or Thurman ,they would have been drafted eventually. They were 1st RD talents who fell to the 2nd and 3rd RD. As far as the 8-8 record goes...if the Brad St Louis doesn't bobble the extra point snap and Shayne Graham hits a chip shot,we probally go 10-6. Thats not the defense fault. Marvin Lewis drafted good character guys in the 2007 Draft, but no one chooses to talk about that......its only the Browns fans that bring up a Bengal getting in trouble with the law. And I don't to hear about the Bengals being the only team to bring in questionable "character"...... Jamal Lewis troubles are well illistrated and Eric Steinbach was one of the very Bengals that the Browns fans were making light of last year...... and Eric Wright fell to RD 3 for what reason?
Only Browns fan that bring up the Bengals getting trouble? Look again...it's a Steelers fan that started this thread. Somehow I don't think Clown Hunter would like you calling him a Browns fan.
Quote: Marvin Lewis drafted good character guys in the 2007 Draft, but no one chooses to talk about that.
One year of drafting high character guys isn't much to talk about.
Quote: I don't regret the Bengals drafting Odell Thurman, and Chris Henry. Without those 2,we don't make the playoffs in 2005.
That's why everbody laughs at Cincy. You constantly reward bad behavior and when it backfires people love to rub it in.
Quote: Jamal Lewis troubles are well illistrated and Eric Steinbach was one of the very Bengals that the Browns fans were making light of last year......
I'm no fan of Lewis but he has not been in trouble since coming into the league. He went to jail for something he did back in college. Steinbach was laughed at because he was just one of many to get in trouble. Getting a DUI while driving a boat is mild for what a lot of your guys were getting in trouble for.
Quote: Eric Wright fell to RD 3 for what reason?
He fell to the 2nd. He was arrested for date rape as a freshman but charges were never filed because of a lack of evidence. I really hope he was innocent because I don't want my team associated with him if he was guilty. If he gets in trouble again then I guess you can laugh at us.
Wright is only one player in Savage's three drafts that I know of with character issues. That's a lot different than your Bengals. You guys continued to draft problem children even after it blew up in your faces.
Face it Impacted, you love to stir the pot over here and watch Browns fans fight it out, but your gonads are so small that you can't take the Bungals being pounded on. I am starting to hear Mini Ripertons voice every time you post
Actually I think its your Browns that have been pounded on..what are they..19-45 over the last 4 years. For all the "thugs and criminals" the Bengals have had over the last few years,we haven't been the laughing stock on the field like the Browns have....I guess its better to be laughed at for off the field than on the field.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! The Bengal fan turns to on the field smack again when we are clearly in a thread that talks about Bengal arrests!
I also love how these Bengal fans talk like they have had such a superior team lately. One playoff season followed up by an 8-8 season isn't much to brag about.

You forgot to mention the Bungles uniforms--best in the NFL. Always have the urge to go Trick or treat when i see them. I know GM is jealous of them for sure..
Hey Impact, they've got to hang their hats on something..While its never good for bad publicity, the Bengals have built a serious playoff contender since Marvins arrival...
CLOWNS FANS CANNOT STAND THIS!!!
Despite the fact that they have had their own legal problems (that they like to sweep under the rug) They have to find some crack in the Bengals armor..Sorry folks but AJ Nicholson aint it..The sour taste of a 30-0 drubbing, a season sweep (which I guaranteed) and the loss of the all time series lead to the "horrible" Bengals has left Cleveland and their fans in a mad scramble..A scramble to find anything negative to pop on a rival about because frankly, there isn't a whole lot positive that you could say about the Clowns and their sorry state...
You'd think this board would be full of Thomas and Quinn rah rah, but you won't see it much...This place is simply caught in a torrent of wallowing in other teams shortcomings. (but hey its the smack shack)
Just think of it like this..Clowns fans are like a bunch of Titanics and the NFL season is a sea of icebergs...The fans gotta have fun right away because sooner or later, you know their gonna sink...
Of course this is a bit of an insult to the Titanic as the Clowns have a knack for sinking a lot quicker than the Titanic ever did....
Just ask GM..I think he was actually on the Titanic on that fateful night
I love it how people end posts with NUFF SAID... Like you're really going to shut me up with that?
As a football team, you have two main goals every season... GET TO THE PLAYOFFS and WIN THE SUPER BOWL. Unfortunately for you Bengals, the sad, sad, Cleveland Browns have done that just as much as you have in recent memory.
"The Browns are a club contenders probably don't want to face right now. Their physicality cannot be questioned."
I can understand why Browns fans love to bring up the Bengals and their players getting arrested......cause thats all you got to use....the Bengals are the better football team period.Last time I checked, the Bengals were having their way with the Browns concluding with a 30-0 blowout in Cleveland no less. There is a reality of home field advantage in the NFL,but not in Cleveland. the difference between the Browns and Bengals in 2007,is that the Bengals are playoff contenders and the Browns..are well just the Browns....... Run your smack all day about the arrests. The Bengals are a better football, and thats what matters.....end of story..... Can't wait till Carson Palmer and Rudi Johnson have their way again with the Browns defense.
