So I typically don't rant after a game but after this dumpster fire, I can't help myself.
WHAT THE HELL
We force 5 turnovers yet lost by 11? The offense was totally clueless in the second half. Our "win with defense" unit folded like a cheap paper hat. Granted, we lose Haden and Whitner but COME ON.
Farmer needs to go. The fact that we have JONATHON FREAKING BADEMOSI playing ahead of the guy we picked EIGHTH overall last year speaks volumes. The fact that Danny Shelton has proven to just be a fat guy with cool hair that is washed out ONE ON ONE much less commanding a doubleteam. There's just NO talent evaluation capability in this FO (with the exception of Duke) (edit) Almost forgot....the signing of Dwayne Bowe. There are not even enough curses in the english language to describe that masterstroke of bad decisions.
O'Neil needs to go. There's just no reason we should be THIS bad. You see individual players make plays here and there but the scheme lets us down time and time again. We've got 3-4 personnel playing predominantly a 4-3. It doesn't take a goddamn defensive mastermind to see this is A BAD IDEA.
Given that McNeil is Pettine's bosoum buddy, this unfortunately probably means that Pett needs to go as well. I've tried hard to be a believer and I enjoy Pett's penchant for speaking his mind but he's supposed to be a defensive coach...and if he thinks O'Neil is doing a good job, then he is a moron by association.
Flip has shown some good things...especially as a first year OC. However, if we have to go head coach shopping, odds are he wants his own people so Flip probably gets shown the door as well.
Given that we're tossing out the whole current administration, then odds are we may as well turf the current squad. Trade Mack before he leaves for free. Thomas goes to a contender...the poor guy deserves it. Gipson goes to FA this year and will command a fat contract. Give the new folks a full hand of draft picks and prospects and just pretend we're a freaking expansion team.
Again.
Disgraceful.
See you next Sunday.

I agree this team is not going to win even in 3-4 years...we have more holes than last year and we've been actually super healthy this year...Team is junk the roster and acquisitions have been piss poor bad...Farmer needs to go...right now...Pettine can pack his bags at the end of the year too

We just can't get the QB. It might be a good idea to give the guy you drafted to be the QB a chance to, umm, give it a try.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

We just can't get the QB. Ironically, the signing I hated the worst (McCown) has been the best one. The guy has been nails and has outperformed any expectations and I've come to admire his grit. Given his lack of weapons, he's been pretty damn good.

I honestly think the Browns largely have 4-3 personnel running a 3-4. Bryant, Bryant, Shelton and one more DE (Mingo perhaps?) doesn't sound like a terrible front 4 imo.

O'Neil is the problem, and his "packages". Put your best players on the field and leave them there. This defense needs to get setfor the snap, and win the battle. All t5his trying to fool the QB is not working. Line up and beat your man, period.
The problem we have, is O'Neil and Pettine are tied at the hip. I don't want to blow up the whole staff, But, how do you bring in a new DC, when Pettine wants to run his own.
If they don't lose thousands of season ticket holders after this year, I would be surprised.

Blow it up. The season is over. At the end of the season talk to Ozzy and offer him the President's chair. That and a MOUNTAIN of cash.

Pettine has to go, Farmer has to go, if we could rid ourselves of Haslam that would be great too. Top down rebuild. Again. Man this gets old.
Not one of these guys has shown me anything. Not Pettine, not Flip not anyone. Yeah Flip's O can pass. But he has NO clue how to generate a running game. He was looking to get McCown killed today. Nope. They all have to go.

And I would say there is a 0% chance of him coming. 1) He is employed by another team, that means he can't leave without their permission. 2) The team he is employed by is in our division. Thus, they probably won't give us permission to talk to him. 3) If they did give us permission, which they won't do, they would then probably require compensation in the form of draft picks if Newsome was hired. 4) Newsome is just as much of (and probably more of) an institution in Baltmore as he is in Cleveland. Why would he want to leave?

Is Ozzy their team President? If so then yes he can't leave. If he's Vp or lower then an upward move to another team might be possible. Why would he come? Promotion. MONEY and LOTS of it. How about a small percentage of the team? There is no salary cap for front office or coaching staff.

It's not like an OC to head coach type of thing.

Last night I had a vision of Bellichek calling it quits and Haslam handing him a blank check to come fix things.
Heh. Might as well add Urban Meyer as coach in this pipe dream.

I don't want to do this all over again, but this coaching staff has given us no positive at all.
Outside of continuity for the sake of continuity, what's a reason to keep Mike Pettine around? Defensive guy who's defenses have been last or next to last against the run, and love to use guys out of position.
The writing is on the wall for Ray Farmer. Even if you take away Manziel, because he may or may not have been Haslam's choice, the track record is horrible.
Not to mention that for once, can we hire the general manager first, and then let him pick the coach? Haven't we picked the coach first the last 2 times around?
This team is so phenomenal at overthinking things. It's a damn game.
