Those tricky bastards. Pro Football Talk said this: Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com reports that the Browns and Broncos discussed a trade for All-Pro left tackle Joe Thomas, and the Broncos were willing to give up their 2016 first-round pick. However, the Browns wanted even more than that, also asking for the promising young linebacker Shaq Barrett, and the Broncos decided that was too much. What they failed to mention was this: According to a source, the Browns had talks with the Denver Broncos early in the season after Denver lost left tackle Ryan Clady to injury in the preseason. The Broncos were willing to part with their first-round pick in 2016, but the Browns also asked for second-year linebacker Shaq Barrett, and that apparently killed the deal. Ryan Clady was injured in late May. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000494533/article/broncos-ryan-clady-torn-acl-out-for-seasonThey cited Grossi in their story, but left out one of the most important bits of information in his report. Pro Football Talk is the TMZ of the football world.

To be specific, Browns were asking two 1st-round picks for OT Joe Thomas. They won't get that. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter

I'm not surprised to see a counter story coming out after the feed back from the first supposed deal was looked at in disbelief by Browns fans.
So someone from the Browns floats a story, NO IT WAS TWO FIRST ROUND PICKS plus Shaq Barrett...
SURE, I almost believe the Browns management.
BTW, this is an old Banner like tactic...float the story, to see what the feed back is, then make up a story to cover our managements ass.

I had to look up this Shaq kid, but in just 7 games so far, he has 3.5 sacks, and has forced 3 fumbles, (recovering one) and has 1 pass defensed.
It does indeed seem like he is a promising kid.
I still don't think that I would trade Thomas for him and a very late 1st rounder. I think that I would start with a 1st and a 2nd, along with the player, and work from there. I would also want another draft pick in addition to that package. If I am going to trade Thomas, I want a landslide of value coming my way.
A Hall of Fame player, with 3 years left on a very player team friendly deal, does not come cheap. If i cannot absolutely steal from the other team, then it's no deal for me.
(Corrected a typo)

Just to hear mention that Joe Thomas was on the block shows that our management is willing to do anything, even if its the wrong thing, to escape responsibility.
What is on the field today, does the Browns management take any responsibility for it?
The Browns had a decent team last season, by Browns standards, and what did the Browns management do?
They made changes, let our free agents go and signed free agent junk from other teams.
Suddenly, what looked decent last season, now looks horrible.
WHEN WILL MANAGEMENT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE?

Clady goes down and they call us. We listen as stated nobody says no we won't listen.
We listened and we said no - I'm sure if we said also this LB it would have been added. But remember it NEVER HAPPENED and sure I believe Denver contacted us in May to see.
Now cause Grossi brings it up 6 months later its news worthy and goes into - SOURCES SAY like Grossi is a source...lol

Where there's smoke there's fire. Apparently JT said he wouldn't stop a trade and would wave his no trade clause if dealt. If this is true the locker room is a mess and needs a cleanup anyways. You know how I know you're making things up? Joe Thomas doesn't have a no trade clause. My bad...Apparently I heard wrong. They were talking about Mack and he deferred the question to his agent. Still where's there smoke....

Cleveland Browns Trade Rumors: Broncos Inquire About Joe Thomas
Nick Dudukovich 16h ago
In Cleveland Browns trade rumors, the Denver Broncs reportedly inquired on the availability of Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas, according to reports out of Denver.
Everything about Joe Thomas screams Cleveland Browns. He’s as blue-collar as they come in a town where a big-time work ethic can elevate an athlete into a different stratosphere.
But there’s been talk that Thomas is going to be moved and that could mean Cleveland’s No. 3 overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft will be protecting Peyton Manning.
Trading Thomas doesn’t make a lot of sense for the franchise because the Browns have nobody who can replace him on the offensive line. From Denver’s perspective, the Wisconsin product could be the missing link that vaults Manning and the Broncos into Super Bowl 50.
Thomas should be viewed as valuable by other teams because he’s under contract through the 2018 season, and at the age of 30, he’s still in his prime because of the position he plays.
Depending on who you read, some writers, such as ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi, contend that Thomas is the only player on the Browns that would command any value on the trade market.
The report that the Browns and Broncos are “talking” comes from Vic Lombari, who works for the CBS affiliate out of Denver.
While Lombardi says the two sides are talking, he seems hesitant to Tweet that the two teams are talking trade, which makes little sense. If they’re talking, what exactly are they talking about?
Here’s what Lombardi’s been Tweeting lately…more link

Who do we believe more? The guy who we have never heard of or the guy we all hate. Quite the conundrum. I say neither.
Thomas is still on the team.

Having faith in the Browns' front office and being able to decipher the poo the media puts out are two different things. cfrs...I've been around too long to simply pass this off as not something to take seriously.
Kind of a perfect storm...reports that Haslam's right hand man has become Alec Scheniner, a lawyer schooled in the art of "business", who's previous experience in Dallas had little to nothing to do with football personnel and a whole lot to do with running football business.
Haslam's background is business, just like Scheiner, so why wouldn't he be interested in Scheiner's opinions.Considering Haslam's record for hiring and firing football people, it's obvious that his football knowledge is questionable.
As I've made a point of saying recently, the Browns are in need of someone under Haslam (and over Farmer), who is experienced in football from the management side and as a coach. That is who Haslam should be confiding in on matters such this. But, with that void in management, Haslam is left to confide in Scheiner or Farmer, who also lacks in experience and may be looking for a job after this season.
To a business man, a move like this might make sense where a football guy would simply say no, not a good idea to trade your Hall of Fame LT for the Broncos peanuts.
What really bugs me...we had a decent team last season...and instead of building upon what was decent, Haslam and Farmer changed it. Now that their moves didn't work, instead of admitting they screwed up..they want to start the rebuild all over again.
I hope this trade doesn't happen, but I believe there is a chance that it will given the characters we have running this franchise.

You make good some points.
Let me counter with some of my own:
1) The rumor is that we asked for two first round picks for Thomas. That is not peanuts.
2) I don't know of an example in football, but people with backgrounds in business have successfully run other sports franchises.
Let me clear here, I don't not want to trade Joe Thomas. I have stated this several times. I think it is clear that his name has come up in trade discussions. I do not know the extent of those discussions, just that they occurred. It would not surprise me if the Broncos leaked these discussions to try and make a trade happen.
(Not trying to be a smart aleck (or Alec in this case), but Scheiner's name is spelled Scheiner.)

Alec Sheiner is the guy calling the shots? That can't be good. I was actually thinking maybe he was the guy that should either go or have any of his football operations duties be taken away. I was thinking that maybe the direction we should go is similar to what the Broncos have done. Hire a football mind ( Elway) and let him make the decisions on Pettine and Farmers futures. The only problem is finding a guy with the footbal acumen that Haslam trusts enough to turn over the whole show to (Peyton Manning? hey it worked with Elway)

Was told Broncos did have discussions with Browns a while ago regarding Joe Thomas but no firm offer was made. Talked conceptually. https://twitter.com/MikeKlis

There is another factor that I will speculate on...
The Broncos QB is said to be close to Jimmy Haslam, both being graduates of Tennessee..how close, the average Browns fan can not be sure of. Haslam has declared himself a fan of Peyton Manning and there have been lingering rumors that when Peyton Mannings playing career was over, Haslam would like to hire Manning in some capacity with the Browns.
If Peyton Manning is going to win another Super Bowl, he and the Broncos are in need of a LT in the worst way..no LT protection of Manning...no Super Bowl for Manning and the Broncos.
Now, who has a LT that could protect Peyton Manning?
I don't know why I think of these things...guess it comes with experience in life..some of the crappy things I have seem people do. Hope I'm 100% wrong...

If Jimmy would run a scandal off of people that pay him (i.e. truck drivers) why wouldn't he do the same thing to fans that pay for season tickets? He's an unethical business man to say the least and anyone that thinks that he cares what the fans think are just fooling themselves.

Browns are motivated sellers. I’m told they’d be willing to pay some of OLB Paul Kruger’s (prorated) $7M salary to complete a deal. https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/661612463696277504This one makes sense. Kruger's role has been limited and he probably won't be on the team next year.

Mac you are acting like this is some kind of fact. Yet the first words I read is "TRADE RUMOR" If there is validity involved its not a rumor.
Why act as if its Valid?
Again this is all conceived from what happened in MAY cause that is the only fact they can find. The rest is da da da...Rumor.

Pettine is our best chance for consistency. Defense all in for year 2. Looking for Awesome on D! Just saw that this is your signature. It is hilarious in hindsight. (Not trying to pick on you. I think we all thought our defense would be better than it is.)

From day one - I stated we won't lose games because of the O and McCown. Our season will all be determined by how good the D is.
I, media, some poster but especially most of our Coaches. Thought the D was going to be closing in on Awesome.
I know many are going to look at my sig and state - What a Putz what does he know. But will not look at what I have said actually is true just not the end of the spectrum I was hoping to see.
Waiting for the turn around of the season. It was around this time last year that we started to play good-excellent defense.

Theirs were actually good. My favorite was "do you know how I know you are making this up? LMAO......instant classic. I don't get all the drama. I think people are overreacting. Heck, I think I overreacted last night. Teams talk. That's nothing new. Keep the posts coming, they are quite entertaining.
