With two NFL head coaches already fired this season and likely more to come, one coach whose current job would appear secure may opt to become a free agent.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday morning that New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton "is open to other opportunities in 2016."
On "NFL GameDay Morning," Rapoport explained Payton's situation:
"According to three people briefed on this matter, his contract may help [him change teams]. I am told that in Payton's contract he has a 'change of control' clause. In other words, if the person in control of the Saints organization, currently Tom Benson, though that is now being discussed in the courts, if that changes, Payton would be able to be a free agent in 2016 if he is so inclined. In addition, if Payton does want to leave the Saints after the season, regardless of who is in charge, I'm told according to Saints ources they would be inclined to let Payton explore other opportunities, mainly because of what he has brought this franchise and organization."
(Benson and his family are arguing over the family's assets, including the Saints and NBA's Pelicans. You can read more details here.)
But Rapoport noted that even if there is no change, Payton may still get the team's blessing to explore other options. Currently, the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans have interim coaches, having fired Joe Philbin and Ken Whisenhunt, respectively, and Detroit's Jim Caldwell and Indianapolis' Chuck Pagano are likely to be fired at the end of the season, if not sooner. There may be other jobs that come open, but of those four, the Colts may be most attractive for Payton, especially if general manager Ryan Grigson is also fired, due to the presence of Andrew Luck.
In 10 seasons as head coach (though he was suspended for the 2012 season because of the bounty scandal), Payton has led the Saints to five playoff appearances, as many as the franchise had in its first 39 seasons combined, plus its only Super Bowl win. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdo...-152447912.html

I would give him whatever pay he wants to coach here.

That is cool..Found this Bio Sean Payton Bio During his career, Payton has had particular success tutoring quarterbacks. He has thrived since arriving in New Orleans, as he holds or has tied a total of 26 club career, single-season and single-game records, eight of them NFL marks. Since signing with the Saints, Brees has completed 3,812 of 5,649 attempts (67.5%) for 43,685 yards with 316 touchdowns and a 98.8 passer rating. In 2014, he enjoyed another standout season as he completed 456-of-659 passes (69.2%) for 4,952 yards with 33 touchdowns and a 97.0 passer rating, tying for the NFL passing yardage lead. He was selected to his club-record eighth Pro Bowl as a Saint.

i know it's maybe a pipe dream, but do you think him being able to have Manziel might intrigue him here?
I could see us, or the Titans being the ones he chooses as top choices.

Mariota, Luck, Tannehill, and Stafford are all better options and will also [probably] need new coaches. Also, he can just stay in New Orleans. And on top of that, Jerry Jones has wanted Sean Payton for years.

If I'm coaching Drew Brees, I'm staying put.
WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM my two cents...

If I'm coaching Drew Brees, I'm staying put. What if you could get more money and coach a younger QB (and not have to work for the nutty wife of Tom Benson)?

What if that involved going to a team lacking in talent, with a proven track record of giving a coach 1 1/2 years to turn it around before fans start calling for your head?

To be clear, I wasn't talking about us. I was talking about the Colts, Titans, or Dolphins. We aren't going to get anyone's first choice if we fire Pettine.

I could see us, or the Titans being the ones he chooses as top choices. Manziel isn't going to attract anybody except maybe Kevin Sumlin (and even that is just wild speculation, and I don't know much about the guy anyway). Honestly the Browns job has to be the least or one of the least desirable NFL head coaching jobs. The best things it has going for it is that it's a storied franchise/tradition with a passionate fan base. - No QB of the future - there's always a chance Manziel could be the guy but it's unlikely - Owner has questionable ethics and a quick trigger finger - Lack of young talent due to botching the drafts. Seriously, look at the young talent at any position group outside the O-line. blah. - Undesirable location (weather, taxes, crime, etc.) Those are probably unpopular opinions here but it's just the reality. Pettine was a consolation hire to begin with-- the fifth choice at best. And the situation the team is in now is probably worse than it was then.

If we offered him enough money and control, he might come here , especially with a long term contract years-wise, which would give him plenty of clout.

It doesn't matter who we have at coach, when we can't draft players worth a damn or players that can contribute - then no coach is going to flourish.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

i know it's maybe a pipe dream, but do you think him being able to have Manziel might intrigue him here? That is in the opinion of many, another Manziel myth. Their is no intrigue. Make the first read at least to give your offense a chance, like Russell Wilson, then improvise. Manziel, plus or minus the alcohol and white stuff, has not demonstrated an ability to do that.

He would, however, be a failure in the NFL, just like he is in college.
