Christian evangelists claim Starbucks fa...d coffee cups

Snowflakes, doves and trees are out and minimalism is in for Starbuck’s signature holiday cups — to the dismay of Christian evangelists.

The coffee chain’s seasonal designs are remixed each year, but this year’s tri-color tone of red, green and white has apparently angered some religious leaders for declaring a so-called “war on Christmas.”

“Starbucks REMOVED CHRISTMAS from their cups because they hate Jesus,” wrote former Arizona pastor Joshua Feuerstein in a viral Facebook post that had at least 8 million views Saturday night.

Student pastor Nate Weaver at the Crosspointe Christian Church in Sarasota, Fla., vowed to never visit Starbucks ever again

“I’m officially banning Starbucks from my life,” Weaver wrote in a Facebook post Saturday. “With the CEO of the company telling those who support pro-life that they don't want their money and now the Red Holiday cups with nothing that might tie to Christmas on them because they want to be politically correct.”

Outrage over the red cups is not exclusive to the United States. British politician David Burrowes joined the criticism against Starbucks’ new design as an attempt to play it safe.

“The Starbucks coffee cup change smells more of political correctness than a consumer-led change,” Burrowes told Breitbart London. “The public has a common sense grasp on the reality that at Christmas time, whether you have a Christian faith or not, Britain celebrates Christmas.”

The new cups were introduced as early as Oct. 22 in European coffee shops before expanding to American chains at the end of its booming pumpkin spice season.

The holiday designs date back to 1997 with artistic depictions of reindeers, vintage ornaments even shades of blue, according to a Starbucks statement on their latest cups.

The corporation started its tradition with a “jazzy Santa.”

In 2013, Starbucks decorated its cups with coffee flowers and poinsettias.

“This year we wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories,” said Starbucks’ Vice President of Design & Content Jeffrey Fields.

That inclusive design is at the heart of Feuerstein’s disdain.

“Starbucks has become a place of sanctuary during the holidays,” Fields added. “We’re embracing the simplicity and the quietness of it. It’s a more open way to usher in the holiday.”

While this year’s hot beverage cups lack any apparent sign of winter, the Frappuccino beverages get their own holiday cheer on top of an ice base. Those cups have snowflakes.

I applaud them for standing up to whatever self righteous nonsense that is the flavor of the month, but at of the day, who cares?

There's too many white girls wanting pumpkin spice lattes for Starbucks to care what these few Christians think.

Even if they toned it down, we're still just talking reindeer, candy canes, wreaths, etc., right?

Was there ever truly Christian imagery such as mangers, 3 wisemen, crosses, etc. in the first place?

banghead banghead banghead

You know what?

To me, this is just another classic example of some group of like-minded people getting together for a groupwhine. I couldn't care less if they believe that they are "under attack" because some corporation changed it's freakkin cups.

Simple....if you don't like it, don't shop there. That goes the other way, also. If they would have put baby Jesus on the cup, I'm sure there would be backlash from some of the same people laughing at this current story.

Yes, it is. That group is being uptight, and the Christian haters here are ridiculous too. At least starbucks is using red cups, and we all know they can't please everyone.

My suggestion, play with people's heads this holiday season. If they wish you a merry Christmas, happily wish them back a happy Yule, or Chanukah, or Dawali, or Kwanza, or whatever you feel like. I also try to go out of my way to be exceptionally polite, as I hope others will follow my example.

I would much rather see Baby Jesus than their pornographic mermaid on the side of a cup.

But why even worry about it all. Like you, I suggest just enjoying the season instead of looking for passive aggressive ways to claim persecution.

You've called out Christian haters. What part of anything shows hatred of Christians? Isn't it Christians hating? frown

It's about the color of a disposable coffee cup, if it could get more ridiculous it would have to be about their choice of toilet paper.

One more story proving that the media will always try to make a story out of nothing. One guy, a student pastor, and it's a story?

It doesn't reflect the ongoing attempt to present Christians as being persecuted?

No, because Starbucks is a business, and I presume they chose their cup design based on what was best for their business, whether that be cost of the printing, the reaction of the majority of their customer base, or just because marketing thought they looked nice.

I personally don't care if they don't do anything special for any holiday or event.

If you don't recognize that there is a concerted effort to remove the religious foundation of Christmas from public places you are delusional..

this thread is just a horrifically bad example of it.

I never claimed to be a victim. I never liked the commercialization of the religious part of Christmas in the first place. So take your boo hoo and stick it.

That is not 100% true.

Christians used a pagan holiday to mask their religious celebration from the authorities in Christianity's early days. They celebrated their religious holidays on the same day(s) as pagan holidays, so they would not be put to death for celebrating their beliefs.

Some pagan beliefs have intruded into and/or coincided with religious holidays; Christmas with Santa Claus, and the Easter bunny on Easter ..... but that does not somehow mean that the religious aspects are somehow inferior to those pagan/commercialized aspects.

eh, not really.

you see, the pagan festival was celebrated on the 25th. you guys(christians) had no clue when jesus was born, as most theologist and historians agree that not only was jesus not born on the 25th, he probably wasn't even born in that season, more like fall.

the pagans were celebrating their holiday, but you guys didn't want to celebrate that so y'all decided to celebrate the birth of christ on the 25th.

the whole death thing was the Nero days, but christianity was legalized in the roman empire in what? 1313? the empire knew you guys existed, and allowed y'all to celebrate it anyway, because while the majority of religions weren't exactly welcomes, they didn't interfere with your religious practices after Nero.

so at the end of the day, jesus wasn't even born in december, nevermind the 25th, and y'all piggybacked off somebody else's holiday.

history class is fun.

Being honest here. I actually like and appreciate probably 90% of your posts. It's different, genuine, intelligent and you're unapologetic. However, this is the 10% that bothers me. It's nothing but antagonistic and it's just a shot on Christianity for no reason.

Maybe I'm biased because I won't ever deny being a Christian even though I support certain liberal philosophies (I'm mainly conservative and I won't deny that). I believe EVERYONE should be treated with respect and have their voice heard. Even if it's the majority such as Christians.

Is Starbucks a public or privately owned facility?

How is deciding to not put Santa, snowflakes, reindeer or ornaments on a cup removing a religious foundation?

How much foundation is required for you to realize you control your own religious foundation?

Is your faith so weak that if Starbucks' only changes the color of their cups then how religious can you be?

If we're talking delusions.... cool

Or if you follow astrology and astronomy, Johannes Kepler was able to show a conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn from April 7BC to December 6BC. As Jupiter rules over kings and Saturn over Jews, he calculated the most visible sighting of this conjunction would have been in August of 7BC. As the Magi would have most likely been astrologers, they would have been well aware of this conjunction, and would have sought a 'king of the jews'.
