New studies flip climate-change notions upside down

The sun will go into "hibernation" mode around 2030, and it has already started to get sleepy. At the Royal Astronomical Society's annual meeting in July, Professor Valentina Zharkova of Northumbria University in the UK confirmed it - the sun will begin its Maunder Minimum (Grand Solar Minimum) in 15 years. Other scientists had suggested years ago that this change was imminent, but Zharkova's model is said to have near-perfect accuracy.

So what is a "solar minimum"?

Our sun doesn't maintain a constant intensity. Instead, it cycles in spans of approximately 11 years. When it's at its maximum, it has the highest number of sunspots on its surface in that particular cycle. When it's at its minimum, it has almost none. When there are more sunspots, the sun is brighter. When there are fewer, the sun radiates less heat toward Earth.

But that's not the only cooling effect of a solar minimum. A dim sun doesn't deflect cosmic rays away from Earth as efficiently as a bright sun. So, when these rays enter our atmosphere, they seed clouds, which in turn cool our planet even more and increase precipitation in the form of rain, snow and hail.

Target Sweater Outrages Lucky Few Still Capable of Feeling

The few remaining people on earth still capable of experiencing emotion are outraged this week over a Target sweater, not because it's ugly (which it is), but because of its reference to obsessive-compulsive disorder. The sweater, which reads "OCD: Obsessive Christmas Disorder," makes light of mental illness and "continues to enforce the stigma against those who suffer," detractors argue.

Target apologized to any customers it offended with the pullover but said it would continue to sell the item in stores, an unfortunate decision for the tens of people whose sense of right and wrong has not been permanently damaged by the internet outrage machine.

Just an idea. Why don't we have a thread dedicated to just random conversation or topics? I've seen it done on other sites. I just think of it as a way for posters to get to know eachother better.

I spent 5 hours driving to a job. Worked my tail off. Was able to leave to photograph a beautiful sunset over lake michigan, went back to work. Got done, then decided to go to a casino. Spent 20 minute there, watched people tossing money into slots left and right, thought "this is dumb", and went back to Onekama, MI. Stopped at the local bar to eat. Walked in and the owner said 'we have no alcohol for a while. Supplier problems.'. (oh, that explains the no vehicles in your parking lot) I explained that I wasn't there to drink, I was there to eat.

Good food.

Got done eating. Went back to where I was working. 30 acres of ground? 40 acres? Just me. No radio, no t.v. Just me and crosswords. That lasted til 8:45, then I went to bed. Secluded would be the proper word I believe.

Ah. sleep. Pitch black, not a noise to be heard. Aside from the furnace. And my daughter's school calling my cell phone at 6 a.m. because school had a 2 hour delay because of fog. There goes sleeping in.



Woke up this morning, did a few finishing touches, and drove 5 hours home. Even ate breakfast at one of those "by the wayside" diners. Good food. Too much food. I didn't eat it all.

Got home and wife, daughter, and dog were all happy to see me.

Heck of a 2 days. Loved it.

Why is it whenever someone comments on a republican candidate, they are 'our boy'? Isn't it racist to call Carson a 'boy'? I have yet to say who I'll vote for, but I can tell you it won't be clinton, sanders, or o'malley.
