Thus not solving any problems. There will STILL be terrorist, probably even more thanks to you.

I swear people on this board just do not get it. Bombing them makes them STRONGER. They get more recruits, more people to their cause.

Bombing them in their perspective means they are doing so ring right to advance their cause. Especially if you just start bombing any and everything.

Say what you want, but the world HAD the best case scenario: the dictators that are in charge.

But of course, we had to go screw it up. And now we're crying over a problem that WE helped very much to create.

Man, I never thought I'd say it, but Carly Finoria was right: government creates the problem, and then tries to fix the problem, but ends up creating even more problems.

I don't know why you hate the politicians, Erik. They think JUST like you do, which is why we're in this mess.

OldCold, I feel you man. But we can't just create an issue and then be like "eh, screw it". We have to help SOME peopl out by giving them asylum. I'm not saying go fix the Middle East, but we are definitely party responsible for what's happening there right now.

I want everybody to understand something. When you advocate completely glossing over the area like 40 has in the past, or just bombing them over and over again like Erik has said, we DONT WIN.

We lose, and we lose any moral high ground we THOUGHT we had. We will no longer be the good guys. Understand that.

We have normal Arab Muslims who love it here. 99% have no issues here in America.

I wonder how much that percentage drops when we start killing everybody, regardless of collateral damage.

Listen to Erik, and we WILL have a true home grown terrorism problem here in the states.

First of all, it wouldn't be genocide. They're not all Syrians, or Iraqis, or Saudis, but they are all radical muslims. One of the terrorists in Paris was a French national.

How did we remove the Nazis? We killed so many of them that their philosophy fell apart. Now it's considered wrong by a majority of people. This is a battle of religion and culture, not people or countries.

If we kill them all, how does it make them stronger? It sure seems like doing nothing makes them stronger. So you know, I never agreed with the war in Iraq to remove Hussein. I thought we would have been better off coopting him to keep the Iranians in check. Unfortunately, the wrong war was fought and it will have to be fixed anyway.

You should look up what the isis followers want. They want a world wide caliphate, and they aren't going to stop until they're defeated. And for your 'we caused this' garbage, this type of situation has been going on since the founding of islam. Did you not read history on the Barbary pirates. If you want to push this 'who attacked who first', they (islamists) attacked us first.

99% of muslims like it here, huh? Did you take that poll yourself, or did you read a survey somewhere. It seems to me anytime there is a problem with the western way of life, they shoot someone, kill their daughters, or rant and rave about our way of life.

I can guarantee you this, if we follow your plan of ignoring this problem, we won't win. You can capitalize that all you want.

It'll be genocide, because they whole idea of terrorism is that you don't know who they are until it's too late. you can NOT fight that with bombs, guy.

The nazi's and these terrorist groups aren't the same. why do you guys keep saying that?

we've been at war in the middle east longer than WW2, and the problem has gotten WORSE.

Stop comparing them. two totally different ideologies, from two totally different kinds of people.

and WW2, we knew who the bad guys were. What we're dealing with today. they aren't wearing uniforms. they look like everyday people.

there's only two ways to handle it, and they both suck:

permanent occupation, or completely leave the area and play containment mode.

We've been at war since 2002, thousands of US lives lost, hundreds of thousands of insurgents and civilians dead.

and what has it done Erik? NOTHING. yet you somehow think that continuing to bomb them is somehow gonna work?

that's insanity.

there MIGHT be a 3rd option, but we've talked about this before, i brought it up before and people hated it:

maybe fix their economy and poverty rates. set up a system like Kuwait and Bahrain when regards to stipends for oil profits.

but nah, nobody wants to do that. we gotta beat our chest like a bunch of gorillas.

it's funny how people don't even realize that our culture of violence is just as bad as the middle east. the bloodlust in this country is mind boggling.

10 dead as French high-speed train derails during test run

http://news.yahoo.com/least-5-killed-french-high-speed-train-test-161049664.html

Eckwersheim (France) (AFP) - At least 10 people were killed and five more were missing after a French high-speed train derailed during a test run, local officials said, the first fatal accident since the TGV trains were introduced more than 30 years ago.

The victims were among the team of 49 technicians aboard the train which derailed near Strasbourg, northeastern France. There were no other passengers.

The train was running at around 350 kph (217 mph) on a high-speed line as part of testing for the next generation of TGV due to go into service in Spring 2016, a source close to the inquiry said.

Another 37 people were injured, including 12 people in critical condition, local officials said.

Five others were said to be missing with some people "still trapped under the carriages" , according to French Environment and Sustainable Development Minister Segolene Royal.

The train ended up under a bridge in the water of a roughly 40-metre (130-foot) wide canal.

Search and rescue teams, with sniffer dogs, were set to continue work throughout the night.

Royal, who visited the crash site later Saturday, as did transport secretary Alain Vidal, called it "an apocalyptic scene" and expressed her solidarity with the family of the victims.

The accident happened "because of excessive speed" at Eckwersheim in eastern France as technicians were on board for testing, said Dominique-Nicolas Jane, a senior official in the Alsace region.

However, police said the cause of the crash had not been determined. A source close to the investigation said dozens of technicians were aboard.

- Derailed into canal -

It is the first fatal accident since the TGV ("train grande vitesse" or high-speed train) went into service in France in 1981.

The damaged silver and black front on the train could be seen lying in the canal under a bridge, with the next carriage straddling the bank and the water.

A great plume of black smoke could be seen from several kilometres (miles) away, including from the suburbs of Strasbourg near the German border.

Youngsters playing at a nearby skate-park spoke of acrid fumes.

A police dive team, helicopters and tens of rescue vehicles were sent to the scene in response to the crash.

The accident occurred in a non-residential area, though with some house-boats elsewhere along the canal.

A search was underway to retrieve the train's black box data storage units said Stephane Ottavi, police commander for the surrounding Alsace region.

While there have been derailments of French TGV trains in the past none have had this kind of tragic outcome.

Previously the worst train accident in France in recent years occurred in July 2013 when a commuter train derailed in a Paris suburb killing seven people and injuring dozens more.

In the same month 80 people died when a high-speed train went off the rails and ploughed into a siding in neighbouring Spain.

Saturday's accident happened with France on high alert following a string of deadly attacks in Paris late Friday.

However there were no signs that the train derailment was anything other than an accident during testing.

In August a Moroccan man was overpowered by two young American servicemen after he opened fire with a Kalashnikov on board a TGV train between Amsterdam and Paris.

The new trains are designed to provide speedy journeys from Paris to eastern France and eventually into Luxembourg.

Damn, I hope they don't dump refugees here in Ohio without providing any background info on who we're getting. I hope Jindal receives some answers.

Jindal demands answers about Syrian refugees arriving to Louisiana after Paris attacks

Courtesy of Office of the Governor/Louisiana / MGN

In the wake of the recent terrorist attacks by an IS (Islamic State) in Paris, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal released a letter addressed to President Obama in regards to Syrian refugees seeking asylum in Louisiana.

The letter was also copied to Sylvia Burwell, Secretary, Department of Health and Human Services, Jeh Johnson, Secretary, Department of Homeland Security and James Comey, Director, Federal Bureau of Investigations.

The letter is as follows:

November 14, 2015

The Honorable Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, D.C. 20500

Dear President Obama,

In the wake of another round of appalling terrorist attacks, I write to express great sadness at the events in Paris, as well as my grave concern about the unreported diffusion of Syrian refugees in the United States.

Last week, the city of New Orleans began receiving its first wave of Syrian refugees. As with former immigration crises and federal relocation policy, Louisiana has been kept in the dark about those seeking refuge in the state. It is irresponsible and severely disconcerting to place individuals, who may have ties to ISIS, in a state without the state's knowledge or involvement.

As Governor of Louisiana, I demand information about the Syrian refugees being placed in Louisiana in hopes that the night of horror in Paris is not duplicated here. In the wake of these atrocities, I also ask for details on the below:

What level of background screening was conducted prior to entry in the United States?
In light of the fact that some of those responsible for last night's attacks held Syrian passports, what additional protections and screenings will be put in place?

Will all Syrian refugees seeking relocation in the United States now be cleared by the Terrorist Screening Center?
What degree of monitoring will be sustained after initial placement in Louisiana?

As Americans, we embolden freedom and opportunity to the rest of the world, but by opening up our borders and refusing to collaborate or share information with states, you are threatening that reality.

Mr. President, in light of these attacks on Paris and reports that one of the attackers was a refugee from Syria, it would be prudent to pause the process of refugees coming to the United States. Authorities need to investigate what happened in Europe before this problem comes to the United States.

Sincerely,
Governor Bobby Jindal

It's exactly the same. Both the Nazis and the islamists want you to live the way they want you too, or you die.

We've been at war with them since that religion was founded. As I said earlier, if you want to start with who was first, the muslims attacked our ships and our captives were won back by the Marines in Tripoli. It's not our fault they can't keep a country for 200+ years.

As for the philosophy, they are exactly the same once you get rid of the stupid rules: We want you to live our way, at our leave. At least here it's, live how you want, within reason. I figured a guy that constantly rants about a religion he doesn't like would see that. The radical muslims have been in conquest since religion was founded and corrupted. At least Christianity has mellowed out a log.

In the end, we can live their way, or our way. It always boils down to that. They are in a religious war, even if we are not. We will be one day. May as well do it now before the losses are so large.

No doubt the terrorists have won. Terrorism is merely a tactic. That's it. We have allowed a group of whack jobs with no standing army, Airforce, or Navy, too shift not only our entire foreign policy, but our entire way of life. Even after all of that we still have yet to get to the meat of the matter. Whether it's a terror group or organized crime, they have to be funded. Who's funding them? If you think this is a simple case of religious fanatics, you truly have no idea the way the world actually works. How many rich people have you heard conducting attacks themselves?

'War economy'
Islamic State has put in place what appear to be the beginnings of quasi-state structures - ministries, law courts and even a rudimentary taxation system, which incidentally asks for far less than what was paid by citizens of Mr Assad's Syria.
IS has displayed a consistent pattern since it first began to take territory in early 2013.
Upon taking control of a town it quickly secures the water, flour and hydrocarbon resources of the area, centralising distribution and thereby making the local population dependent on it for survival.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is accused of doing business with Islamic State in Syria
Dependency and support are not the same thing, and it is impossible to quantify how many of Islamic State's "citizens" are willing partners in its project or simply acquiescing to its rule out of a need for stability or fear of punishment.
To understand how the Islamic State economy functions is to delve into a murky world of middlemen and shady business dealings, in which "loyal ideologues" on differing sides spot business opportunities and pounce upon them.
IS exports about 9,000 barrels of oil per day at prices ranging from about $25-$45 (£15-£27).
Some of this goes to Kurdish middlemen up towards Turkey, some goes for domestic IS consumption and some goes to the Assad regime, which in turn sells weapons back to the group.
"It is a traditional war economy," notes Jamestown analyst Wladimir van Wilgenburg.
Indeed, the dodgy dealings and strange alliances are beginning to look very similar to events that occurred during the Lebanese civil war, when feuding war lords would similarly fight and do business with each other.
The point is that Islamic State is essentially self-financing; it cannot be isolated and cut off from the world because it is intimately tied into regional stability in a way that benefits not only itself, but also the people it fights.
The larger question of course is whether such an integral pillar of the region (albeit shockingly violent and extreme) can be defeated.
Without Western military intervention it is unlikely. Although Sunni tribes in Iraq ponder their allegiances to the group, they do not have the firepower or finances necessary to topple IS and neither does the Iraqi army nor its Syrian counterpart.

i'm slowly convincing her to at least learn how to shoot.

Take the concealed carry course with her. It's very informative and you won't get bored, I can pretty much guarantee you'll both enjoy it and learn some things. You can then make an informed decision, you can still choose not to carry, but you'll have the legalities taken care of should your situation change.

For me carrying a weapon is a constitutional right that every honest american should partake. It's also something that I think people partake without actually knowing the consequences and how to handle that right properly. Being trained on weapon handling, situational tactical advantage, maintenance and everything that comes with the responsibility of taking advantage of that privilege is the utmost importance.

I believe more people like that, good people with weapons and the ability to defend themselves and others should be increased, not reduced with control laws for law abiding citizens. I think alot less acts of cowardice happen when theres a distinct possibility you are going to encounter several armed citizens. You will never see me out without my weapon or a backup. Not because I'm a gun toting redneck that likes to get off on show of force demonstrations. But I like to think if something went pear shaped, I want to be in a position to help. Besides, the Army paid good money to make sure I could do those things, why no give Uncle same a return on investment..lol

My boy is 9 years old and is already proficient with about 8 different weapons. Luckily being prior military and my family being military this was supported by my family, But i know alot of people get scared thinking about that.. we don't have a gun problem in this country, we have a perception problem compounded with parenting problems

So basically there are no good answers. You can't antagonize them and you can't leave them alone. It's their way or no way...regardless. Based on that premise, you have to take the fight to them, however you define it. I'm not sure containment is an effective choice but it sounds like a start. If they want to shoot up their own neighborhood, that's fine by me. Just leave the rest of the world alone. I know it's a prayer at best, but it's the best I can come up with right now. And I know it's profiling, but I vote NO on refugees. I'm sorry, but their problems will only become our problems at some point over here. We have enough problems to deal with related to OUR citizens. Enough already.

After 55 years, I'm walking away from this dumpster fire. Good luck to everyone who continues to hang on. You'll need it.

If we are so serious about eliminating this problem, why in the hell would you turn down the assistance of Russia?! The combined might of NATO plus Russia in combating ISIS would end this garbage in a matter of days. Not to mention the sharing of intelligence. The administration is too hung up on Assad.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

j/c ...

I just wanted to mention two random thoughts I had about some things coming out of the media.

First, people keep labeling these attacks as "sophisticated" and probably took "months to plan". I'm sorry, but what's so complicated about synchronizing your watches at attacking a couple different locations with some automatic weapons? I swear the media gives these animals far more credit than they deserve.

Second, it was reported that in response to the attacks, France bombed a couple of ISIS strongholds yesterday. Why on Earth were these strongholds not bombed well before?? If you know the location of an ISIS "stronghold", what are we waiting for?

I thought the exact same thing. If we knew where it was we should have already made it into a crater. If we do more of that they will have a hell of a lot less time to post on Twitter, recruit and train new zealots.

I agree. I would think the challenge is in acquiring the explosive material without getting caught as that is supposed to be controlled... after that, any 15 year old with an internet connection and a few willing friends could rig it and plan this thing out.

I also see that the famed computer hacking group "Anonymous" has declared war on ISIS and is planning to bring down their communications and expose their locations and identities to the world... which begs the same question you asked before, if they could do that, what were they waiting for?

Actually, I would figure the hard part was getting the weapons and ammo. At least hard to do without getting noticed. As for the explosives, they made those out of acetone and some other liquid, if I recall the news correctly the other day.
