He's not good at coaching defences. Someone else posted his team's rankings over the years. Not good.

At least Ryan would show a little bit of passion on the sidelines instead of standing there with those stupid sunglasses on and his arms folded like he's watching a game of rugby and he has no clue as to what is going on.

No talent is the problem.
Hes a great coach..just needs a shot,as a head coach.
Heres the PERFECT OPPORTUNITY.
6 games to prove,he can coach up,a group of players.

I haven't really seen anything out of Rob Ryan that suggests he would make a good head coach. He has a style and charisma that might make headlines but his defenses are usually average at best, I believe.

And after living in the NYC area for the last 6 years, if Rob is anything like his brother, that act gets old quick.

Dont wait for all the teams to bid on the coaching positions.
Hes available today,GRAB HIM BEFORE ANYONE ELSE!
DO IT LIKE YESTERDAY!
WHY WAIT,TILL EVERYONE IS BIDDING?
6 games would be easy test for this guy.
Hes been coaching for years, and deserves a shot at head coach.

His players play for him,he motivates the talent he has.I remember him doing well here,we were highly ranked d,with him as coach.
Just imagine him being able to chose his own players.

There is absolutely nothing to lose.
6 games to coach up a losing team.
A real test,to see what he can do.
Team comes out on fire, and plays good football,he keeps the job.
Losing continues?
No great loss..move on.

Since we've already lost respect, this may actually make some sense in a really weird twisted world.

In that same vein, we should sit Manziel the rest of the year so we have a good product to send to Dallas for draft picks we'll screw up.

Certainly not much, but has Ryan had any notable success anywhere he has been? We've been there, done that...

He likely would, at least he has some fire. I just don't know if he could be a HC - and his defences have never been that good.

We as fans may have nothing to lose, what is Haslam going to do? Hire Rob Ryan, to a contract and then fire him in six games and then be paying yet another head coaches salary?

He has had some defensive success. His failings started here and then with the Cowboys and then again with the Saints. Before that he's done pretty well. Remember, no matter what, he always has a job.

so you think that firing our HC, bringing in sideshow Bob, placing him over our existing coordinators when he has no idea what we are doing with the little talent we have.. so he can rant like a lunatic on the sidelines, has a snowflakes chance in hell of turning out well?

if you want to place the Browns right back in the spotlight for ridicule and mockery from the NFL, social media, etc.... kill any chance we could have of finding decent replacements for whoever we may actually fire at the end of the year, then go for it.. seems like a good plan.

If we can't play good football, can we at least stop acting like a dysfunctional circus... please.

Look up his history on Wiki or something. He's done very well before. His demise started here, nobody does well here, and continued on to the 'Boys and the Saints.

He did a change from a 4/3 to a 3/4 in New Orleans and is now fired in the middle of the second season of that change.

I don't know that he's washed up or that all his gigs have been through name alone. He's been coaching a long time. We'll see what the future holds for him now.

I'm not advocating that we hire him. Just talking about him since he's the subject of this thread.

I'd rather just keep drinking Rob Roy's on Sundays than watching Rob Ryan

I'm sure he'd be more than happy to sign a 6 game contract to show what a great coach he is with this roster.

Super smart!

If we do fire Pettine and if we fire Pettine...ALL SHOULD GO. Cause the only reason I would want us to REBOOT and not go with CONTINUITY is to bring in somebody so GREAT...DYNAMIC it had to be good.

Gruden, Saban, Urban Meyer...my short list.

jmho but not for the normal witch hunt of give this guy a try...I'd rather stay PET

Rob Ryan's defense just accomplished something no other defense has done in the NFL, EVER.

They allowed three QBs in a row throw for at least 4 TDs and no INTs. And those QBs were Eli Manning, Marcus Mariota, and Kirk Cousins. Not exactly Brady, Rodgers, and Palmer.

Please.

I'd take Rob over the rookie/clueless Jimmy O'Niel, but only as a temp band-aide until the end of the season.

Rob Ryan isn't that good of a coordinator either haha.
