Because Manziel had Roethlisberger-level success so far in his career. . . What does that have to do with anything? The more successful you are the least likely you are going to get cut or benched? Ben was the Steelers starting QB, he was young and dumb and made bad choices and even got in trouble with the law. So is Manziel, he's been named the starter right? He's 22 young and dumb but he hasn't gotten in trouble with the law yet everyone is packing his bags out of Cleveland and grabbing the pitchforks and torches...

Totally Sucks... thanks for the info even though I didn't really like it. Won't shoot the messenger and I did ask for the truth.
Still possible that it was not the truth? That its an old video? I don't see how that it would be that damaging since he never got drunk? nor missed anything - Unless he did go to rehab for Liquor???
Could it be possible to mess up the Ravens game plan...although No I don't really think so.
smh, will wait still for all the facts. Not good, obviously.

Are you then saying that being successful somehow gives a guy the right to get drunk partying and sexually harass women all the way to charges and court but not yet being successful another guy has not yet earned that right?
Are you saying that?

He hasn't, but why the double standard? You act like life isn't just one big double standard. I won't disagree on that at all. I just don't understand why anyone really cares that a 22 year old kid had a drink on his off week. As is true on this board, no one will change their point of view on anything so it is worthless arguing about. I've never seen a fan base hate one of their own so much. Hell, I think some people on here hold rapists, murders, child beaters, and woman beaters of the NFL in a higher regard than Manziel. It just makes me sick. Playing Manziel is pretty much the only reason I was planning on going to the remaining games this season. I will certainly be letting the front office know of my displeasure (like it matters, but it will make me feel good) for taking away the only positive left in the season if it happens. And I wouldn't care if Pettine got fired for doing it.

Did Roethlisberger get in trouble before or after he went 13-0 in his rookie season? Did I sleep through Manziel's great successes? So basically what you are saying is because Roethlisberger went 13-0 and had great success, partying, wrecking his motorcycle and almost killing an old woman, raping a girl in the bathroom is ok and doesn't call for being benched or cut from a team because of the success that you have had on the football field. If you are Manziel and have not had very much success and is in his 2nd year, although you have volunteered for rehab and done everything the organization has asked and you've never been arrested or charged with anything for breaking a law he should be benched or cut. Gotcha, that makes all of the sense in the world thanks for clarifying...

Still possible that it was not the truth? That its an old video? The video is not only. It happened this past weekend. hmm... I think it's a lot older than that Bustedcoverage.com first published a video posted on DJ LX's Instagram account of Manziel partying at the Summit Rooftop Lounge on Friday night in Austin. The video shows Manziel holding a bottle of what looks like champagne and singing and dancing with the DJ. The caption on the Instagram read, "Sippin on Dom Perignon for no reason with Johnny Manziel.''
Another Instagram photo of him at Austin's RIO rooftop lounge was published on Thursday night. A source confirmed for cleveland.com that Manziel at least stopped into RIO on Friday.
Later Monday afternoon, after DJ LX removed the video from his Instagram account and made his account private, TMZ Sports published a story saying that it had obtained its own footage of Manziel partying at Summit Friday night. The site said multiple witnesses saw Manziel -- who vowed not to do anything to embarrass the organization over the bye week -- "boozing'' at the clubs on back-to-back nights. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2015/11/mike_pettine_disappointed_by_j.html#incart_2box

More photo evidence from Johnny Manziel's party weekend -- this time, a pic of the Cleveland Browns QB at RIO nightclub in Austin, TX on Thursday night. Same hat. Same mustache. Same bracelets as he was wearing in the champagne video from the next night. We spoke with a staff member at the RIO who confirmed Manziel was at the bar on Thursday night. From the photo, it doesn't appear Movember is working out too well for Manziel either. TMZ link

Why is Pettine even responding to this crap Totally agree here. A simple "no comment on internal matters" would have sufficed. why? because it has worked so well in the past? maybe they are trying public humiliation to get him to straighten out? Straightened out from what exactly??? this goes back to when the browns had there big meeting in the offseason. they met on sunday, monday and tuesday. wensday morning johnny was in rehab. the truth is they made him. the truth is they think he has taken a step back and they, "the browns" are not going to put up with it. JMO. i think there is more behind it than a few pics.

So... I guess we did manage to lose in the bye week.

But for it to come three days after he was questioned by police following an in-car argument with his girlfriend is beyond troubling. It’s disturbing. http://chronicle.northcoastnow.com/2015/...nt-with-police/

This is the world we live in, especially in the football world. If you are good, you get a pass. Manziel has not been good yet.
This is the world we live in... rapists, women beaters, child beaters, murderers, tax evaders, those with run-ins with the law for a myriad of reasons and a whole A-list of buttholes get overlooked because they've been successful in the NFL. BUT, a 22 year old kid, a player, who because he has done nothing significant to this point of his NFL career, gets punished verbally and possibly loses his starting job for doing something his team mates do routinely. He has never been arrested by the law nor suspended by the league, (even after a lengthly investigation), yet he gets vilified, media blasted and plastered all over the internet, TV and radio for attending a party and having some fun as a means to get away from the daily grind and which results in no ill effect other than that from the fixation people have on him to the point that they've falsely built him up through media hype into a straw man seemingly only so they could tear him apart as did the flying monkeys to the scarecrow in The 'Wizard of Oz'. At this point I don't know if Johnny stands a chance in hell of having an NFL career with this sort of thing handing over him.

Manziel has never had the chance to correct his behavior and stop lying. Do you mean the very same behavior that every swinging dick in the free world gets away with because it's no big deal but they don't have cameras and wannabe pseudo prosecutors focused on him 24/7 making his every non-infraction a larger-than-life, over-the-top major issue?

Unfortunately for Manziel, he is not the average person. He constantly puts himself in the position for controversy and is a liar.

And yes, if you are going to be a total screw up off the field, then you better make sure you have your success FIRST... people become a lot more tolerant that way... to the point of being apologetic.

There is a battle going on between players and the media. If he can rally the players around him, this can be a good thing. If he cant, thats also a good thing as u know u need another leader on this team.

I am OK with Johnny partying provided he does so responsibly and it doesn't compromise his ability to do his job. It's kind of unrealistic to expect a 22 year old to live like a priest.

Folks need to stop making excuses for Manziel.
The kid has serious problems, you don't check into rehab if you don't have serious issues.
It don't matter if JM has not gotten in trouble, has not broken any laws or anything else.
The Cleveland Browns As his Employer have the right to tell him not to engage in behavior the organization believes acts against the best interest of the team
At this point, and I never thought i'd agree, but Merill Hoge is right...just cut the kid now...just part ways with him tonight, at this point..its over.
Cut bait, move on....JM is a disaster impending..he is a ticking time bomb ready to blow up over Berea....Hoge was right about him....Haslam if there is one thing you can do right since you got here...cut bait with Manziel...now...the sooner, the better.
This kid has serious issues, rehab obviously didn't help him, and the Browns are not his HMO, you bent over backwards for this kid...its obvious that was all for naught...its not gonna work out...cut him now and save everyone the future headaches.

I'm sure there are a lot of facts that I do not know...one of which is his medical condition for going to rehab.
But it behooves me that so much negative press and demands of punsihment of some sort or speculation of his demise.
And yet he has Never been arrested, never had a dui. Never has been suspended for substance abuse or put on the protocol as in failing tests.
I mean he partied? I just don't get it.
Meanwhile Kenny Stabler is turning in his grave.
I fail to see what is so bad about this? He had several days off, went back to his Home town and School. Didn't get arrested. Didn't cause a public disturbance. Got back a Day earlier than asked.
Oh wait there is a report of a guy in a vehicle with his family and there was a zipping car that was Manziel of course taking their word for it. But oh no a 22 driving fast in a sports car. Not arrested right...just an eye witness. And then digging up the old police report with the girlfriend...sun glaring in my eyes so might have read that wrong. The stinking drunk girlfriend who by her own account was trying to get out of a moving vehicle and was restrained to the point it left marks. There were no other marks in those pictures...if he was hitting her in the head...sorry there would be marks.
I just don't get what he has done so wrong.

The thing is he could have been a choir boy this season and the team still would have to worry that he could fall off the wagon at any time. We would still be looking for QB no matter how well he behaved this year.

What 22 year old doesn't have issues. Heck, I probably should have been in rehab at 22 - I drank A LOT every day my senior year of college. I agree the the Browns can do what they want as he is an employee. I'm not ready to throw the towel in until we see what we have. If he is good, none of this will matter and everyone will forget about it. If he stinks, we draft a QB and move on.
