Johnny will probably end up at Dallas, light it up, and all these guys will say they had faith in him the entire time he was here in Cleveland. Just like Weeden did.

I don't know what he said, but here is some friendly advice: put cfrs on ignore. As if you ignore me, friend. I wish the guy put me on ignore. I was actually just thinking that if Vers is seriously done with this organization then Pettine just pulled off a miracle. He got rid of Johnny Bench AND Supreme Chancellor Vers in one fell swoop. Give the guy the keys to the city and throw him a ticker tape parade! In all seriousness, I give mad props to Pet for the cahones it took to make this decision in the face of the fan/media Johnny lovers backlash. Normal players can drink whenever they want. Franchise QBs who have been in rehab for alcohol and have multiple serious alcohol related incidents in their recent past can not. ESPECIALLY after JUST being named starter. There is a HUGE difference. Not to mention this is about the 13415241234th time Johnny has taken all the trust and responsibility the org has provided and flushed it out down the toilet. Every single time. Disappointing is the right word. The other good thing from this is, it solidifies that we have to draft a QB this year. We didn't have one on the roster yesterday...and we still don't...but now at least everybody KNOWS that to be true.

He got benched for drinking? Are you freaking kidding me? If you think he got benched for drinking, then you are completely missing the point. No he got benched because Pettine is an idiot. I thought the point of his partying caused poor play on the field and poor practice habits. Recently his practice and play have vastly improved and there is no indication that what he did has effected his play or practice habits, I feel he should have been afforded the Benefit of doubt and at least see if his partying caused either to diminish and then punish him accordingly.

If this video of Johnny at the club is all there is to this, then Pettine obviously hates him and just wanted an excuse to bench him. Maybe there is more to it. But this seems spiteful and nasty on Pettine's part and even worse, it hurts the team. We NEED to know if we should use the high pick Pettine and Farmer have earned us on a QB. Johnny has shown signs he could be special. He's shown more signs he probably is not. But we need to know.

"I let him know that I'm not going to do anything that's going to be a distraction to this team or be an embarrassment to the organization," Manziel said. "I don't think they're going to have to worry about me this week." I'm guessing, as any sane person would think, that going to a bar would not be a distraction. I would certainly not think going out and having some drinks at a bar would be a distraction, apparently it is. The funny thing is, by benching him it has turned into a rather large distraction now. I hate that I love this team. I really, really do. Yeah, now, instead of a video being posted of Johnny having fun during the bye week with the media weighing the pros and cons of that we have ESPN and the NFL Network as well as every local 11pm sports segment across the country and all the internet football sites and the radio talk shows spending the whole afternoon and evening discussing how dysfunctional and inept the Browns organization is. There, Pettine did what Johnny couldn't do, he fixed any worry of a distraction.

LOL.............you weren't here for that, unless you are another poster who either was banned or disgraced.
However, I always said Weeden sucked. He couldn't read coverages. He got confused and threw picks. When he was told that was unacceptable, he resorted to Captain Checkdown.
We have a stat boy on here who posts Weeden's great completion percentage but also uses stats to bash Bridewater. No clue.
I argued w/almost every person on here about how good/bad Weeden and TRich were.
Those guys don't like me bringing that up. Not sure why?

*giggles* @ Triple Option.
It's okay man, we'll have another draft to blow and new QB to roll our eyes over next year.
Star Wars however never disappoints.....well except for Jar Jar.

The other good thing from this is, it solidifies that we have to draft a QB this year. We didn't have one on the roster yesterday...and we still don't...but now at least everybody KNOWS that to be true. Yeah boy! That is not just a "good thing," it's a great thang. We love drafting qbs over and over and over. Timid in round 1. Bust. BQ in round 1. Bust. Weeden in round 1. Bust. Manziel in round 1. Bust. Let's draft another one in round 1. And let's have Farmer do it. He really gets QBs. He might take a guy who has a 6th round grade and pick him number 1 overall, because he wants to revolutionize the position. He is a freaking genius. Gosh...........what a happy day!!!!

Oh no I agree with you on the last Farmer part Vers. I don't want him within county limits of Berea when we're selecting our next QB.

The boos on MNF will be epic. With Balt losing QB and RB and both teams with horrible records, this could be the worst MNF game of all time.

We will be drafting a QB next April and McCown will be here as a mentor for at least a further year. For Manziel, I fear this is not the end of the beginning, but rather the beginning of the end...

Heres what pisses me off, he went and had fun on a bye week to decompress like EVERY SINGLE PLAYER does, he came back early, was doing charity work Monday..yeah he's a horrible person deserving of this treatment. Nothing came of his weekend other than a couple pics and a video showing him having fun, he wasn't smashed and acting a fool, he was fully in control of himself.. People keep bring up the rehab.....it was VOLUNTARY. Just because you get out of rehab doesn' t mean you ahve to abstain 100%, maybe he learned how to control and partake in moderation, crazy thought..Yet nothing from the NFL on anything he's done and we all know Roger loves to lay the hammer down on personal conduct issues. He's done everything asked of him on the field and in the classroom. I'll be damned if I let someone tell me what I can do on my free time, NFL or not.. I'm pretty sure drinking isn't against club rules. This has conspiracy written all over. If this was any other player it wouldn't even be an issue, and if it was happening to any other player I'd say the same thing. I hope NFLPA just annihilates this franchise.

I completely agree. But again, like Columbus said, perhaps there is a LOT MORE to the story. If that is the case, then I take back all I said.
However, if it is not the case..........screw the freaking Clowns.

I agree with the other side somewhat as well...know your environment and know who you are..Johnny can't do anything without it bringing attention..he should have known better than this, but it still doesn't make the punishment fit the crime

Haven't read every post...Vers says he's done and posters have cheered, others want to bury Browns...JMHO, if you want to leave/ leave, bury Browns, leave go root for the Bengals or OS or anyone....that's your right.
My take on Manziel, never wanted him, wanted Bortles, who's bigger, married, and stable. Johnny has always been talented, but FLAWED. He's been a drunk for long time and isn't going to change anytime soon...JMHO. For those who still want him, name another starting or backup who has been in press in a negative way like Manziel....He's it...and he's pulled a Gordon over and over...JMHO, he can't be trusted, shouldn't have been drafted and should be traded or released. Sends a message to all future draft picks that it is NOT a right to play for Browns or anyone else. Hope he gets it together, but Chris Carter is looking more correct...best thing for Johnny would be his release.
Johnny isn't in Mike Vick category, but he is a screwup and doesn't have the character to be trusted as a leader.
Go Browns!!!!

Has anyone heard about the fan named "Bill" who I think called into 92.3 and broke down? Does anyone have the audio of that?
I'd like to hear it. They should play it for the entire team and coaching staff. Maybe then Pettine will shove his scheme up his you know what. What a dipwad. You're kidding right? Guy calls into a sports talk show and starts crying? Really? And you think that's appropriate, admirable, and something we should use to guide ourselves going forward? GMAFB! Are you people Browns fans or Johnny fans?

Johnny Manziel's partying, lack of professionalism jeopardize his career Dan Wetzel By Dan Wetzel 3 hours ago Yahoo Sports Mike Pettine wore the look of someone tired of being played the fool. Tired that his shot at being an NFL head coach had been cursed by the decision to gamble on Johnny Manziel when Teddy Bridgewater and Derek Carr were on the board. Tired of the endless circus of Johnny Drama – the unprepared games, the offseason rehab, the social media pictures of Johnny drinking on an inflatable swan, of Johnny drawing bubbles on a bottle, of Johnny being Johnny. Tired that after all of that he'd still gifted Manziel the opportunity of a lifetime: six games as the starter of the Cleveland Browns to prove to this franchise, or any franchise, that he was mature and professional enough to maximize some of that innate ability and be a player in this league. And then Johnny hit the clubs in College Station during an off weekend earlier this month due to a Thursday night game. Then he hit the clubs in Austin during the recent bye week. And then when pictures and video emerged he went with some lame excuse like they might be old … not that they were old, just that hey, who knows they might be? And then Pettine and the Browns, tired of being tired, demoted Manziel to third-string quarterback, putting the Heisman winner's career at risk. Because Johnny Manziel made Mike Pettine look like an idiot and no one wants to look like an idiot, especially for a borderline talent. "Everyone in this organization wants what is best for Johnny just like we do for every player in our locker room," Pettine said in a statement, announcing that Josh McCown will return as starter for the rest of this lost season. "I'm especially disappointed in his actions and behavior because he has been working very hard," Pettine said. "The improvements from last year to this year have been tremendous but he still has to consistently demonstrate that he has gained a good understanding of what it takes to be successful at the quarterback position on this level. It goes well beyond the field. We are going to continue to support him in every way possible, but at this point, we've decided it's best to go with Josh as the starter going forward." Make no mistake, Pettine announced the decision but Manziel made it with his actions. Pettine had no other option. The locker room wasn't going to respect a coach who expected a young quarterback to take the job seriously only to jet to Texas at first chance. And Pettine was never going to let his time in Cleveland, however long it still has, to be known for never standing up to Manziel. Pettine is the son of a legendary Western Pennsylvania high school coach, the sport is in his blood in an old-school way. He probably allowed the potential of Manziel to change him enough. Tuesday was about getting back to his roots. "It's all part of the frustration, the disappointment," Pettine said early Tuesday after the latest round of Manziel party photos popped up on the Internet. "When the behavior repeats it's certainly a cause for concern … disappointing, very. I can't stand here and say it's not, whatever word we want to use, disappointing, frustrating." Manziel spent time last offseason as an inpatient at an unspecified rehab facility and it's quite possible he needs to return to treatment. Only he knows for sure, but without it he may find employment in football impossible. What's clear is that for every step forward he has apparently made, he couldn't resist the allure of an active nightlife even when it was apparent that these off-weekends should have been used to concentrate fully on proving he can be an NFL starting quarterback. What Manziel is photographed and videotaped doing is nothing out of the ordinary for a 20-something. It isn't close to the police report about an incident with his girlfriend that resulted in no criminal charges or NFL sanctions. Manziel, though, isn't an ordinary person. He is a young man given multiple chances at a lifelong dream. This was supposed to be Johnny's time. Not the time of his life. An adult recognizes that. A professional knows when it's time to work, not hang out. An NFL quarterback realizes how precious every snap is. Pettine, after all the bad days, had given him the rest of the season to show what he could do, and Johnny instead just did what he wanted to do … party when he needed to stay in Berea and grind tape. Manziel knew this too, of course. He knew he shouldn't be partying at all and he knew that perception can be reality. "I let him know that I'm not going to do anything that's going to be a distraction to this team or be an embarrassment to the organization," said Manziel according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com before one of the off-weekends. "I'm going to get a chance to go and relax like everybody else in this locker room is. I don't think they're going to have to worry about me this week." Only they did have to worry. Not just one week but two. Not just last season, but this one and, presumably, every other in the future. The reality is he didn't need to relax. He needed to double down. The entire thing is disappointing to everyone who enjoys watching Manziel play. He isn't great, but that may not be the bar here. The Browns surely dread not taking Bridgewater or Carr, but for everyone else who is tired of dull, drab, pedestrian quarterback play, Manziel at least provided color via unpredictable scrambling. Now he needs to find a way to avoid getting his career sacked because he'll have to find someone willing to accept an on-field project with self-destructive tendencies who just spit in the face of the one guy who may have believed in him. He'll need to prove to everyone he isn't an addict. He needs to find someone who will give him the chance to build trust. "Let's wreck this league," Manziel texted the Browns when trying to get them to draft him and save him from a first-round free fall. Cleveland bit on it, but after all the chances, all the coddling, all the enabling, all the counseling, Johnny bit back. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/johnny-manz...-225230374.html
