I really believe Pettine is a poor HC. However, I believe it's logical to deduce that there had to be some sort of agreement between JFF and the team going into this season concerning a conduct policy. Even if there wasn't, there was definitely an agreement about this weekend. We don't know that for sure, but how can you explain today's reaction from the team without that. It seems lime there has to be more to this than what any of us know. Might there be other things that have gone on that we don't know about that the Browns do know about?

I can't believe that you and I actually agree about something. LOL
Man.........one guy goes from starting to 3rd string because of a freaking picture and another guy has two rape charges, pics of him being totally wasted, crashing a bike, etc, etc and nothing happens.
Look...........I wouldn't have benched Ben, either. However, unless there is a lot more to this story about JM, this is the dumbest demotion EVER!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure the entire organization is pretty effing clueless, so doubtful. I mean...2-8 with the 30th ranked defense in pretty much EVERY category, they're a joke. This is just another example of their ineptness.

What a bs article, "Tired that his shot at being an NFL head coach had been cursed by the decision to gamble on Johnny Manziel". QB play is the least of this teams problems, his shot at NFL coach being cursed by the fact he was supposed to be this defensive guru and it is the worst aspect of this team. A hard nosed run first AFC north team he said, we are one of the worst in the league. What a bunch of crap!

JM drinking--or holding--champagne is not that big of a deal.
Do we need to scroll up again or aren't you the guy that posted "We don't know what Johnny was in rehab for." If he was in rehab for alcohol would it be a big deal?

Would it?
Has he been identified by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy?
Has he had several DUI's?
Heck, has he had one?
Did he beat the crap out of a woman while drunk?
Did he urinate in public? Who knows, maybe he peed on Pet's steps????
We know you hate the guy........but, please Barnie, tell us how his sins are worse than Greg Hardy's?

I can't believe that you and I actually agree about something. LOL Yes it's amazing. I think the kid worked his tail off and finally achieves what he worked for( starting QB ) and I would guess celebrates BOOM third string. It hasn't been proven it has effected his play.

Has anyone heard about the fan named "Bill" who I think called into 92.3 and broke down? Does anyone have the audio of that?
I'd like to hear it. They should play it for the entire team and coaching staff. Maybe then Pettine will shove his scheme up his you know what. What a dipwad. You're kidding right? Guy calls into a sports talk show and starts crying? Really? And you think that's appropriate, admirable, and something we should use to guide ourselves going forward? GMAFB! Are you people Browns fans or Johnny fans? Calm down there Nancy. I hadn't heard it. I thought it was something different. In other words, it's not what I thought it was. Are you ok now Dave?
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

To me.. the article may have regurgitated information, but it also put forth in an articulate manner, the feelings of the Organization, as well as many fans. Manziel is being paid money that many of us can only dream of, to be a professional.
Teachers can lose their jobs for being unprofessional in their personal lives, just as Doctors, Professors, Prosecutors, Journalists and even Military commanders can be called on to keep their indiscretions "away from the flag post." It is all a part of growing up and learning to be an adult.
I'm sure we all know someone this has happened to and we all said.. the dumbass should have known better. I know a male high school principal who at a party, told a sexual joke to female teacher. The party was not related to the school, just a group of mutual friends at a non-school event. The female teacher complained, and the principal was suspended. The board of education cited a lack of professional integrity. The principal served his suspension and retired.
Johnny Manziel has shown a lack of professional integrity and has been demoted to third string. The reasons are all well known, and have dated back since he became a Brown. He does still has a job, and he is still getting paid. This is Thanksgiving. Johnny should be thankful he is still getting paid bib money to be part of a game he loves.

Explain then why is Big Ben still a starting QB and not a third stringer?

Did you see all the party pics of Gronk all off season?
Didn't Mike Vick come out of prison to a starting QB role?

I wonder why even demote him and not put him on the famous Healthy Inactive? I thought that was the MO for Pet as punishment - aka Bowe? Also, the interesting part is that according to some reports, Pet made the decision and then told the FO, which supported the move. That may be telling then that Pet is in good standing....or teeing up the FO for more ammo to fire Pet - maybe dependent upon how we do against the Ravens. If we lay an egg on Monday, then what...ugh. Question - since today he was demoted to 3rd string, could be be moved up by game time? Finally, I have a hard time believing that this was just a result of a few pics or videos..there has to be some sort of other information that forced the move. If the pics and vids are all there is, why not fine the guy --- unless there was some sort of signed agreement - where is the Players Union in all of this? I don't seem to remember ever being involved in any player protection in this - at least from fair treatment??

With the disclaimer that if there is more to it I can change my mind, I now hope they lose and lose bad. I want a high draft pick and I want Pettine and Farmer gone. I hate starting over, and I know each time it makes Cleveland a less attractive destination. But I think these guys are truly incompetent. Farmer, I know is.

Has he been identified by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy? Nobody knows that for sure until he gets his first suspension. Has he had several DUI's?
Heck, has he had one? No but he does already have an alcohol related arrest Did he beat the crap out of a woman while drunk? Crowley claims that he hit her "a couple of times" The police report states that he "shoved her head into a window" A couple of women's groups were calling for his suspension Did he urinate in public? Who knows, maybe he peed on Pet's steps???? Metaphorically speaking directly on Pet. We know you hate the guy........but, please Barnie, tell us how his sins are worse than Greg Hardy's? I never said it was worse. Hardy demonstrates over and over again that he shouldn't be allowed to play football, but Jerry Jones doesn't care and I'm sure he'll take Johnny in when the time comes. Johnny didn't get suspended. He just got demoted. Peeing on the coach will do that. Haslam and Farmer also seemed to okay the move.

J/C The kid's a knucklehead. He should know better than this. As to the "hypocrites!" argument...maybe the team had an unspoken deal in place? Such a deal as "stay out of the limelight, and party scene" could've been on the books for this season. The beer selling at the stadium? Not the Browns fault if an alcoholic or other substance abuser shows up and drinks despite being supplied. It all owns up to personal accountability here. Obviously Manziel lack personal accountability with saying "Yeah, I'll change", but yet he never does. Too many red flags with this kid for me. Weird part about this? Our revered Paul Brown would've cut Manziel a long time ago, and I bet half of this board would be up in arms. Talk about that if you want to talk about hypocrisy. I do gotta say this, though................hey YTown, Rish, arch, and others..............you still think we should have taken Johnny over Teddy? Good call, guys.

This organization is a JOKE, plain and simple. Farmer should be gone he's in over his head and doesn't know what he's doing, Haslam is a crook, and Pettine wasn't even a good defensive coordinator let alone head coaching material... This just goes to show you they don't know what they are doing, benching a guy for partying with friends on a bye week, what a JOKE!!! I feel bad for Johnny, I hope the clowns cut him so he can go somewhere else and have a chance to succeed. I'm not a huge Johnny fan either but what they are doing to him is a JOKE, the guy has done everything they've asked, he's progressed in his second year and all Pettine wants to do is ruin his confidence.

http://espn.go.com/blog/afcnorth/post/_/id/86708/johnny-manziel-timeline-with-cleveland-brownsMike Pettine's decision to take the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback job from Johnny Manziel came because of a series of off-field missteps by the second-year quarterback, which culminated with the most recent video of him holding what appears to be a pink champagne bottle at a club in Austin, Texas. Here's a look at Manziel's time with the Browns, going back to the draft: Feb. 14, 2014 -- Before the draft, Manziel says many things about Johnny Football being gone and taking his job seriously. May 9 -- Manziel texts the Browns during the draft and urges the team to take him so they could “wreck this league” together. After being taken 22nd overall, Manziel does his money sign as he walks on stage. May 10 -- After the draft, Manziel parties the night away with magnums of champagne and celebrities. May 26 -- Manziel appears in several online photos in Vegas during a down time in the team's offseason work. June 10 -- The infamous photo is taken of him on the floating swan with a bottle of champagne. June 16 -- The “money phone” video appears. June 27 -- At the rookie symposium, Manziel speaks with the media and says he would not change his life for anybody. July 4 -- A photo of Manziel rolling money into a small tube in a Vegas bathroom appears. July 25 -- The Browns admit they are “alarmed” by some of Manziel’s behavior. July 26 -- The Browns call Manziel in the day before training camp and speak pointedly to him about his off-field habits. Owner Jimmy Haslam says the team “expects better from him.” Aug. 14 -- Manziel is late for a training camp meeting, saying he “misread the schedule.” Aug. 18 -- Manziel extends his middle finger to the Redskins' bench in a nationally televised game, for which he is fined $12,500. Aug. 20 -- Brian Hoyer is named the starter and Manziel admits to not being ready. Nov. 22 -- There is a lobby incident/fight between Manziel, a friend and a fan Manziel describes as aggressive and intoxicated. The Browns express disappointment at the timing of the incident, at 2:36 a.m. the morning the team is flying to Atlanta for a game. Dec. 1 -- Manziel replaces Brian Hoyer in Buffalo and runs for a touchdown to end his first drive. Dec. 12 -- Yahoo! posts a story detailing the crazed lifestyle Manziel had in college, and how he went from being a college player "to Elvis." Dec. 14 -- Manziel starts his first game against Cincinnati and throws for 80 yards as the Browns lose 30-0. Dec. 21 -- Manziel pulls his hamstring and leaves the game just before halftime in Carolina. Dec. 23 -- Manziel says he intends to take his job more seriously, that “it’s a job for me now.” Dec. 27 -- Manziel does not show up for a team walk-through and treatment, with Browns security going to his home to find him. He later admits to being out the night before. Dec. 29 -- Manziel says he can't say anything more to prove himself, that he has to put his words into action. The team agrees. Dec. 30 -- The Instagram video appears with Manziel wishing LeBron James happy birthday. Jan. 16, 2015 -- Manziel and Josh Gordon spend time in Aspen, Colorado. Jan. 23 -- An ESPN.com story appears chronicling Manziel’s rocky rookie season. Jan. 28 -- Manziel enters treatment at the Caron Center outside Reading, Pennsylvania. April 11 -- Manziel leaves treatment after an extended 10-week stay. June 1 -- Manziel throws a water bottle at a badgering fan at the AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament in an incident that is dismissed as "fairly straightforward" by a police spokesman in Irving, Texas. June 17 -- Manziel meets media for the first time, promises to junk the signature “money sign” and says he will do all he can to tamp down the off-field hype. Aug. 13, 20 -- Manziel has a running and passing TD in each of the first two preseasons games. Aug. 23 -- Manziel leaves practice with elbow soreness. He would miss the final two preseason games. Sept. 13 -- Manziel takes over after Josh McCown leaves the opener with a concussion and has poor results. Sept. 20 -- With McCown out, Manziel throws two long TD passes to Travis Benjamin in the Browns' first win of the season. Sept. 27 -- McCown returns to the starting lineup against Oakland. Oct. 12 -- Manziel is questioned by police after witnesses called to report he had been driving dangerously on the shoulder. He parks his car in Avon, Ohio, where his girlfriend tells a witness he had been beating her. Manziel admits to drinking downtown during the day. No charges are filed and the couple is allowed to leave together. Nov. 5 -- Manziel starts for an injured McCown in Cincinnati and struggles in a 31-10 loss. Nov. 7 -- Manziel is honorary captain at Texas A&M and parties that night in College Station, Texas. Photos appear on social media early the following week. Nov. 15 -- Manziel starts in Pittsburgh and plays well, throwing for 372 yards in a 30-9 loss. Nov. 17 -- Mike Pettine names Manziel the starter for the rest of the season. In doing so, he tells Manziel he has to live up to the responsibility. Manziel promises he will do nothing the bye week to embarrass the team or the organization. Later that day, the NFL announces Manziel will not be disciplined for the Oct. 12 incident under the league’s personal conduct policy. Nov. 23 -- A video appears online on bustedcoverage.com and TMZ.com showing Manziel singing a hip-hop song while holding a bottle that appears to be pink champagne at an Austin, Texas, club. Other photos appear from his Thursday and Friday evenings in Austin. Nov. 24 -- Pettine expresses his disappointment and frustration with Manziel’s actions, then announces he has lost the starting job. Pettine says McCown will start Monday night against Baltimore. Manziel is made the team’s third quarterback.

OK, so of those things that happened THIS YEAR - no one is debating he totally screwed up his rookie season - what is so bad? He stopped his GF from jumping out of a moving car - guess it would have been better to let her die. He goes to A&M to be an honorary captain and has some drinks. Oh the humanity! He goes to Texas on his off week and has, GASP!, some drinks at a bar! Wow, he sure is a bad dude. The car incident is the only one that is somewhat questionable in my book but there were no charges. The other two? Did he miss any practice time that he needed to be in the building? Was he late to meetings?

LOOK: Soon you'll be able to take Gronk's Party Ship to Gronk Island Rob Gronkowski's summer shenanigans After the team's win in Super Bowl XLIX, Gronkowski has had an offseason for the ages, routinely popping up in spring and summer headlines for partying harder than pretty much anyone in the NFL. Here's a quick recap:
• During the team's Super Bowl parade, Gronkowski made a show of wearing a Minions hat and chugging beers from a duck boat. • Gronkowski told Deflategate critics that they can deflate "deez nuts." • He tagged along with other Patriots to the Kentucky Derby. • He appeared on Family Feud. • The tight end speculated that President Barack Obama was drunk at the White House. This was awkward. • To be fair, President Obama take a dig a Gronkowski's shirtlessness during the team's White House visit. • He was a pace car driver for a NASCAR race. • Gronkowski and Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz release their first music video for Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee. It's annoyingly catchy. • Appeared in the "Entourage" movie. • Gronk's drink of choice? Vodka and water. • The Patriots tight end gave away a pair of cleats to East Longmeadow tight end Riley Held. • Gronk also put together his own party ship, which sets sail next February.Gronkowski is a rare off-the-field dynamo for a Patriots team that is notoriously gruff when it comes to media availability. Even with Bill Belichick's mantra of rarely saying anything entertaining to the media, Gronkowski still shines. The fact that he remains one of the best players in the league helps him earn a long leash with the coach, even if he does come off as over-the-top at times. The offseason circus continued this past week as the Gronk Party Boat newsletter sent out logistical updates to sign up for the cruise to "Gronk's Island in the Bahamas." Of note, the update included a link to the official Gronk Dictionary (or "Gronktionary") in order to help fans stay up to date on the definitions of hype'd, Gronk'd, bro powers and zoom-zoom — as well as the importance of Mama Gronkowski's famous chicken soufflé. Well, that and the Gronk-Ortiz duo released another music video: Distraction?

How many times has Gronk been to rehab again? How many NFL seasons did Gronk waste with an addiction issue?
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I simply cannot understand the disconnect that I'm seeing from these "fans" on here. Acting like spoiled redneck children. Funny how the entire rest of the league aka sports talk with several ex players chiming in all see this as a kid who simply can't get his head out of his own arse but inside the state of Ohio it's boo hoo golden Johnny got demoted for drinking a beer. Oh those stupid "clowns" better ban alcohol forever for everybody. Seriously? Grow the hell up. He's a paid professional playing the hardest job at the highest level. He was asked to take his job seriously and instead decided to go party with his boys. Apparently you all work at low level fast food jobs and don't have a clue what acting professional looks like. He is no longer in college but instead of staying home to do his homework and do his best to win against Baltimore he fell back on his old standard of party hard and let Saturday work itself out.
He did NOT get demoted for drinking. He was demoted for becoming a distraction yet again. Him not being a distraction you say just because of a couple of pics and a video? Tell that to the teammates he's supposed to help win on Monday. This is a team sport not a Johnny show. There are nothing but strong statements about Josh from his teammates but how much support does Johnny get? It's always the same answer. Oh he's still only 22. Really how many 22 yr olds are in the NFL just one? How many of them are qbs? Just one? How many are constantly in the limelight for going against his teams wishes all involving partying?
Just one

This time no. What's the old saying about history repeats itself. Manziel won't change even in the face of losing his starting job. How many people would stand up for this in their own lives or homes? It's about accountability which Johnny has none. If you don't punish than you reinforce the behavior. Become an enabler. That then falls on the franchise.

Playing in the NFL is a privilege, not a right, I get tired of reading this... playing in the NFL is a JOB... nothing more, nothing less. It's a high profile, high paying JOB because of the extremely small number of people who have the skill set required to do that job. If you have a skill set that will help your employer be successful, you will get and keep your job. If you bring embarrassment or controversy to your employer, then they will decide if your skill set outweighs it, just like any other employer..

the guy basically got in trouble for having a good time and somebody putting it up on social media.
While it is dumb, it's not unheard of. There are tons of stories out there about people getting fired for what they post on social media in their off time.
It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!
