Bakery Owner on Response to His ‘Politically Incorrect’ Sign: ‘Overwhelming Amount of Support’

The owner of Schuler’s Bakery said the response to the “politically incorrect” sign displayed in Springfield, OH has been “overwhelming” in the amount of support and business has been booming, according to KUTV.

Schuler’s Bakery owner Trent Schuler said he cannot believe all the attention his sign has received since the photo of his sign went viral.

“I had no idea it was going to turn out like this. I think it’s great, though, the overwhelming amount of support that people have given to just expressing your opinion,” Schuler said.

The sign reads, “Notice. This store is politically incorrect. We say Merry Christmas, God Bless America, we salute our flag & give thanks to our troops, police officers and firefighters. If this offends you, you are welcome to leave. In God We Trust.”

Since he put it up, Trent Schuler says he has had requests for interviews and calls from all over the country and even some internationally.

We have gotten calls from Hawaii. Some veterans that want to support us. We’ve gotten calls from Cuba today. We have gotten calls from every state in the United States,” he said.

Customers are coming from all around to show their support, some making a four hour drive.

“Many of us feel we are being told what we are suppose to think or what we are suppose to say,” Schuler stated about the reasoning for the sign.

I'm politically incorrect also I guess. I'm perfectly ok with him putting this sign in the window of his shop.. No problem at all.

Nothing wrong with any of that. Just don't use your beliefs to oppress and deny basic human rights to any American citizen.

I doubt he put the sign up to prove a point. There's a market for exploitation in small town America for things like this.

Or maybe he's just sick worrying about who he may offend by just being himself.

Do you have any clue about how much our country has changed because some folks are worried about offending this group or that group?

What's wrong with Merry Christmas? Why am I being told that I have to say Happy Holidays?

No no.. you may not get it, and that's ok, but damn it, I'm sick to death of people/groups are offended by a simple expression of holiday spirit.

the fact that he thinks it is says something, though. but it's a marketing tool.

i'd shop there, all he had to do was say the donuts was buy 1 get 2 free, and i'm gassing up the jet to get there asap.

I hate to point out your wrongness when you are WRONG but once again I must.
He posted the sign to make a statement, probably was emotional when he did it.
Later, it turned into a great marketing tool to his surprise.

You could not shop there because when he said Merry Christmas to you, you would lay an egg and get tossed!

Clearly, the sign in the window is a micro-aggression against non-Christians, non-American citizens, anti-war protesters, people who hate law enforcement officers, pyromaniacs, and atheists. Plus, telling them to leave if they are offended is just rude.

If he really wanted to do it right it should have read

“Notice. This store is politically incorrect. We say Merry Christmas, God Bless America, we salute our flag & give thanks to our troops, police officers and firefighters. If this offends you, you are welcome to kiss my ass"

Could be, but then again, he struck a cord within me. I guess I'm offended by those that are offended by someone wishing someone else a Merry Christmas..

I highly doubt that, or this sign would've been put up a while ago.

This is flat out a marketing scheme. He put this up prior to the biggest shopping season of the year.

Too many factors for it not to be a marketing scheme.

Wanna know a big reason why it's a marketing scheme? Because unlike other businesses last year, he didn't put up a "gays not welcome" sign.

Nah, he wants as much traffic as possible going toward his business. I'm not mad at him, but let's not sit here and at like he did this out the goodness of his heart.

I agree with you bud..but this had nothing to do with what was on the sign..it was stickily a business opportunity. I don't know the owner personally but I have a close friend who is..and if you opened his books and looked at the last year of business you would then see his intent.

I live close to where this is going on..and like I said I'm kind of in the know so to speak..unless of course my friend is lying..but he hasnt even so much as exaggerated anything with me let alone straight up lie.

I prefer American flag bikinis myself. Not for me, as my back hair gets stuck in the knots, but a good looking woman in one makes me more patriotic any time.

Times really HAVE changed.

For almost 200 years, it was considered offensive/subversive for the flag to be depicted on ANY item of clothing. It's why you saw so many hippies doing it in the 60's... it ticked off their parents and grandparents.

Nowadays, the most 'patriotic' of conservatives sport the flag as a symbol of pride... but it didn't use to be that way.

Total 180-degree shift... in the span of a single generation.

The sign has actually been up for a couple of weeks now. The local news reported on it about a week ago and it had been up a few days before that.

This a politically incorrect response to Schuler's Bakery.

I say Merry Christmas when I want, regardless of who I'm addressing or where I'm at and have not once been told I'm not permitted. I think anybody making this complaint is someone with a political agenda to force everyone to say, "Merry Christmas", because there is NO one who tells me I can't and I'm not a whiny baby enough to pretend there is.

I have always felt thankful and fortunate to have been born and raised in this country and we raised our kids to understand that privilege. Why are you so prejudiced against people who don't shout God's name for every blessing? I hope that if I don't say, "God Bless America!" every time I eat your donuts, which are probably the best in the world and were a special treat that I remember from my childhood, that you would feel justified to ask me to leave.

I have no idea why, and frankly I'm pissed and appalled, that you assume I don't salute our flag or give thanks to our troops, police officers and firefighters. I'm pissed and appalled, that you assume there are enough people in our society who wouldn't do these things that you would feel compelled to pretend there are enough to warrant posting your petty, trifling sign. My guess is that you are attempting to identify non-super radical, fundamentalist conservatives as an entire group not deserving to share your world.

Every one I have known from every church, non-church and political POV has been and always will be appreciative of those who are willing to step to the line. Do you honestly feel you have as much or more sense of patriotism and gratitude than anyone else? You're a sad and bitter baker.

Frankly it's wankers like you who attempt to ruin the holidays and the wonderful sense of being part of a family in American purely for a political agenda and who are stupid enough to believe your own sign. The obvious political jab at non-radical-fundamentalist-conservatives during an important family holiday causes me to question the validity of the qualities you claim to possess.

Merry Christmas!!!!
