Zac Jackson, Staff Writer 05.22.2007 AKRON -- On the night before the Browns were to kick off OTA practices, a sold-out crowd of Browns Backers gathered to celebrate the team's latest Legends class, last year's most valuable player and this year's draft. The draft buzz was apparent. If Joe Thomas, Brady Quinn and Eric Wright can be as good as rookies as Kamerion Wimbley was last year, the Browns will be back in business. Wimbley was the guest of honor at the annual Akron Browns Backers Banquet at Tangier's, accepting his award from the Cleveland Professional Football Writer's Association as the team's 2006 MVP. Tuesday morning, he'll be on the practice field. And at some point over the next few weeks, he'll line up opposite Thomas and be chasing Quinn. "I'm looking forward to seeing those guys in action," Wimbley said. "We'll see what Joe has. I've watched tape on him. He has great talent. He was great in college, and I think at this level he'll be able to compete and (eventually) dominate. "Hopefully I'll be able to teach him some stuff, and maybe he'll teach me some stuff as well. We'll both get better by working against each other." Wimbley led the Browns with 11 sacks last fall after the team made him the 13th overall choice in the 2006 NFL Draft. What made his feat even more impressive was he was playing as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense for the first time after playing 4-3 defensive end at Florida State. "He had a tremendous season," said Browns coach Romeo Crennel, another honored guest at the banquet. He led the team in sacks and played just about every defensive play for us. He probably hit that rookie wall at some point but he was able to work through it." If Wimbley did hit a wall, he was able to use his duck-under and work past it. He had three sacks in the season's final month. "What's ahead? Get better and get more sacks," Crennel said. "That's what I'm hoping for." Wimbley said he's been working on "more technique things. I have lot of learning to be done still. Last year pretty much was the basics. I can start going into more depth in what I'm learning. "I'm still getting better." QUICK HITS -- Crennel said he's "expecting everybody" for the OTA practice sessions. Among those who won't be active, though, are Kellen Winslow and Gary Baxter. Crennel said both are rehabbing but won't be on the field...Crennel said Leigh Bodden, who had ankle surgery earlier this spring, will be "limited. We might let him do a little bit to see how he feels."...Eric Steinbach is in a similar situation after undergoing an emergency appendectomy last month. "As he feels better, we'll let him do more," Crennel said. Related Articles Browns set for OTA practices Related Players Kamerion Wimbley http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/article.php?id=6814

God, I love this kid. He is what a "team" player is. He isn't dissing the rookie at all. He is willing to help Joe; hopes that Joe can help him; and loves the competition.

Wimbley is everything that Leon is not. He's had a pretty damn good rookie season while many around him struggled. Yet, Wimbley says he is working to get better and he did not bad-mouth one teammate or coach.
This kid is a true pro.........and while I typically don't root for individual players in today's NFL, you better bet your ass that I am rooting for this kid to make a big splash. And this time.......it isn't just to help the Browns, it's also because I know he is a class kid.
You know..........I spread some "rumors" now and then. Here's another one.........in all the discussions I have had w/those who give me those "rumors," I have not heard one single bad word about Wimbley. Not one. In fact, it's been quite the opposite.
This is the kid that you should be getting behind. Oops....sorry. I hate when people tell me who to like or not like, so I shouldn't do it either. Allow me to put it this way............if you get behind Wimbley, you won't be disappointed.

Probably because i think Wimbley visited them before, that was when the guy told Phil his wife wouldn't sleep until we draft Joe Thomas.
He brought Wimbley with him I think to show a great 1st round pick

I'd expect equal sentiments from Joe Thomas as well, and beyond what it means from simply a character standpoint, the upside at the two positions as they improve over time is immeasurable. If both these guys pan out as projected, we've struck gold twice.

Definately the Model of what a TEAM LEADER should be. I believe he will slowly within a year or so become THE TEAM LEADER maybe not vocal but somebody like that can not help but get the respect of his peers.
I believe Joe Thomas is of the same mold and hopefully will command the same respect from his peers on Offense. BE will continue to try to receive Sound Bites as much as possible. But I don't thing he will command the respect these two will...one already has the other hopefully. Things usually evolve and I see this becoming the future of the Browns. Will BE's ego be able to handle it? Don't know and don't care - he's just a WR. Many talk - so they become the Team Leaders in Trash Talk and thats it. To each their own.

You know what is crazy. We have a great story in Wimbley, yet very few of us are talking about him. Look at the # of replies to this thread.......where we have a kid who does all the right things as opposed to the # of posts in the Leon thread, a kid who is trouble. It says a lot about human nature, I suppose. Kinda like all those rubber-necked goof-balls staring at an accident as they drive by on the highway.

I think eotab was just illustrating the contrast between the two completely different personalities. But I agree, there's no place for BE in this thread. I wish everyone would just shut up about him already. But it's the off-season and every little move he makes is going to be scrutinized down to every last detail.
Funny how some blast the media and yet, there is no difference whatsoever between what they do and what some on here do. The only difference is that the media get paid and these people do it FOR FREE. So tell me who's worse?

What I truly hope is that this kid (wimbley) is the prototype player and person that we will see Savage and the Browns Draft.. Thomas SEEMS to fit that mold of a quiet, solid kinda person... on the field is yet to be determined, but I have hopes..
Anyway, if you want to pick a prototype to follow,,, Wimbley appears to be the right one..... JMO, but I bet I'm right!
