So what kind of projects/hobbies are you guys into?

Right now I'm into making short films and small videos.

I recently got the iPhone 6s because it shoots in 4K. My wife hinted at getting me the new go pro that also shoots in 4K, and I'm saving up for this drone with a 4K camera on it. It's really cool because it has a gps tracker on it that's magnetized, so I can stick the magnet on car, and the drone will follow. Also, I can control it with the iPad, for some really cool angles.

I know somebody hinted a while ago they were doing some home renovations?

What are you guys into?

Photography....wild birds and bears are my passion. It's also going to supplement my retirement income in a few years.

My energies are mostly concentrated on getting my kids out of the house, and them be secure enough they don't come back except for holiday and birthday visits.

Mine are out and I hope it stays that way barring sickness.

Project..just put soapstone counter tops in my kitchen and bathrooms about 5mos ago. Neighbor and I did it..wasnt so bad..like it better then granite.

Hobbies..over the last few years..building ar15's..building wheel sets for bicycles its a great stress reliever for me and its made me money to put towards precious metals..which I like to collect/hoard and obviously cycling.

One other but I'n not sure its a hobby..I like to have t-shirts with slogans on them and when I cycle around different areas see what kind of different reactions I get on them..good or bad comments makes me laugh.

That is whats taken up most of my time the last couple years.

Photography, creative writing, and playing around on the guitar are some of a few things I do to keep myself busy.

I take lots of pictures of different things. Lately I've discovered the wonders of astrophotography. Living in a location with little to no light pollution lends itself to some fantastic photo opportunities.

My favorite what would be considered 'classical' pastime is steelhead/salmon fishing in the spring summer and fall. Then skiing in the winters.
I'm also an artist that builds stuff for music festivals. I weld and create eyecandy for summer festivals much of each winter. Then in the summer I go to festivals.
I also create digital art and draw for pleasure.

Right now I work to much to have a hobby. Only thing I find time to do is sneak in here and try to keep you all on the straight & narrow every now and again.

But I used to like to play with lower level 3D software. Years ago I bought an expensive hand held 3 chip camera and Apple's Final Cut Pro software and played around with that. Actually bartered a trade with a lady that taught venetian plaster near Dayton, I film the class, edit it, author and burn the DVD's and she teaches me plaster. Worked out great.

I've thought about getting the drone in the link above so I could do flyovers and flyby's of houses I've done so I could post them to Facebook, and I think it would be fun to film nature like that.

right now i am into making doll houses and doll furniture for my girls.

Hobbies....... Other than posting around here, and my Browns collecting, I would have to say riding the motorcycle. I had it out for an hour again yesterday. Upper 40's and sunshine is just fine with me

I will always have my first love, sports. Since my brother first put a ball and a bat in my hand when I was 3 it's always been about sports. Earlier it was more active sports, now in my later years it's golf. I live at a course, I play often and sometimes I conquer it. A lot of people gamble to make it interesting, I play for the pure love of the game and work to hone the skills it takes to play consistantly well.

I saved my gambling side for the Japanese games of chance known as Pachislo and Pachinko. I'm sure you've heard of pachinko parlors, well it's the machines in those parlors we import. Pachinko is the game where the machine shoots 11mm steel balls into a vertical playfield filled with nails to protect the pockets that you're attempting to land the balls into. You can shoot single shots or up to 200 balls a minute. There are bright lights and really loud music playing enhancing the experience. Then you have Pachislo, the Japanese slot machine. A bit different than the slot machine you find in American casinos. The Pachislo has three red buttons on the front where you can stop each reel individually. An interesting twist and much more interactive than our casino machines.

I started and ran the worlds largest English speaking website devoted to these Japanese wonders. After working that site for too many hours and too many years where my hobby turned into too much work maintaining databases and the like, I sold it but I still have my game room and garage filled with my machines.

I've always LOVED the idea of a bike. It's just the other idiots on the road who scare me. Maybe if I live in a country/isolated area one of these days I'll think about it.

It can be dangerous for sure..I kept my head on a swivel..and for the MOST part rode safely and used common sense...but even then known people who did everything right and are no longer on this planet.

I haven't been able to work since July, probably not gonna be able to until Feb. or March, due to health problems (that I'm having repaired). Nothing to do with cancer, thank God.

Anyhow, I have watched more TV shows than I care to admit.

I have about 7 or 8, give or take, guitars and basses that I haven't played much at all in about two decades. None of them work correctly.... So my project for the next few months is get them all in playing condition once again.

I had a couple of amps I threw out last year. The only one I have left doesn't work right either, so it's getting repaired (I HOPE) as I type this.

I was going to rewire everything, but then I said to myself what are the chances of ALL my instruments not working correctly? It's probably not all my instruments, it might just be the amp...? ...or a combo of the two. So I rewired one bass already, taken a few apart and will wait until my amp gets fixed to put any new electronics in everything else.

I'm fixing up my basses first and guitars second.

At least they'll work right again sometime in the future, just in case I get the itch to play again.

I do tax returns for Liberty Tax Service from January-to-April 15th.

To do that you have to pass a detailed 4 hour tax test every year (at least 75%). Since mid-October I've been studying ~ 1-2 hours a day. I'll take the test in about two weeks. One-to-two hours a day for 2 months is over-kill, but better safe then sorry.

i just went to DODD's camera store today and bought a better tripod stand with the iphone adapter. has way better stability than the typical stands you can buy from target or something. it only ran 70 bucks, and has the screws at the bottom if you're trying to place it in mud or dirt for better stability.

Final cut on the app store is a bit pricey. i'm using iMovie right now, but i'm going to go ahead an pony up for Final cut pro as i seen some demonstrations and tutorials on it.

how did you like that software, btw?

I haven't used the new 'format' of FCP, I have Final Cut Studio 1 which had FCP5 in it. You can download a demo that will last like 30 days. I have it on my computer but I haven't opened it yet. Unless you plan to use it professionally (and if iMovie can handle 4k, I know it can handle HD) I wouldn't spend the money on it.

The version I have I did like quite a bit, this recent version (kinda, it's been out awhile) wasn't so well received but I hear it's caught up to the previous versions and has been used in Hollywood.

But then you are spending quite a bit on the drone so…

Which OS are you running on your computer? I have 10.8.5 and I think it's the OS I got this machine with, haven't had the guts to upgrade yet. Waiting for the bugs to be worked out.

When I edited those videos for that plaster class there wasn't a question I had these guys couldn't answer.

and another thing…get some spare batteries. The flight time for this little thing is about 10 minutes before you need to recharge. I got one and it was only $11 bucks.

aside from triathlon, which feels more like a 2nd job at times, I have home improvement as a hobby of necessity.

I've just started tinkering with guns and shooting, a bit.
I have two rifles, both Mosin Nagant 91/30 (1940 & 1942). I've kept one in all-original condition, but am upgrading and "sporterizing" the snot out of the other. Two weeks ago, I threaded the barrel end and installed a muzzle brake, I've swapped the stock, installed a bipod, replaced the trigger with a match-grade trigger (set to 2.5lbs), trigger shoe, new firing pin spring, etc... next up is getting a decent scope mount and a 9-3/40 scope to plink targets from a few hundred meters.

Currently, I'm researching things to do my own handloading to cut the costs of getting ammo that can be used at the indoor range. Looking to get a Lee turret loader to start with.

I like to do the handloading...and I dont know if your interested in my opinion or not...but Ive been doing it for years and the best advice I can give is be very organized TAKE YOUR TIME very easy to screw up/get distracted whatever..I find it relaxing but need to not be bothered by other people/noise ect..while doing it.

Good luck its a cool hobby/skill to acquire...and what I found not just anyone can do it with consistency.

There my unsolicited 2 cents... One last thing dont get cheap on the primers

Thats funny you mention this...it is what I use..cant go wrong with them...good choice in my opinion.

Idk what sites you read but Ar15.com has a really good hand loading section and learned a lot there. Now idk if you have to be a paying member to access it or not..but the people are more then friendly and learned a lot there.

I'm pretty sure its still there if not I have books I could dig up and give you..pretty sure I still have them.

I have a Lyman's Reloading Book.... just working on gathering equipment. Tumbler should be in my hands tomorrow, the media arrived today. I'll probably be ordering the 7.62x54r dies tomorrow. Still having the internal debate of single-loader vs a turret to start with.... and, of course, then I look at a progressive and think that "Hey, why not jump into that and then slowly build it out?", lol.


I went to the range to fire the rifles a few weeks ago... they charged me $28 for 20 rnds of 7.62x54r SP (Sellier & Belloit). I've since found ammo that is suitable elsewhere for a lot, lot less, but I'm thinking that handloading is going to be best in the long run, especially as I acquire more guns.


Of course, my mind likes to run away with ideas, so it has already jumped past handloading to getting a milling machine and starting to tinker with making my own receivers, actions, & barrels, heheh

Purple I understand completely...the cost can get a little overwhelming...I do it more for a learning and well boredom thing now..but if I can help with anything just ask...like I said been doing it for years and have made more then my fair share of mistakes early on...

Thats why I said take your time and be organized...Id hate to read you blew some digits off or an eyeball and cant ride your bikes anymore
