I still fantasize about Bellichek coming to us in a mastermind/Parcells-ish role when he decides he's coached enough.

I'm not sure how long he wants to coach, but there's no way in hell he's not going to anywhere but in New England as long as Brady is there, and still good, but once Brady is gone or is past his prime, I'd love to see Jimmy hand him a blank check and a chance to finish what he started.

That's what I've come to as a Browns fan, fantasizing about things happening 4 or 5 years from now.

Crazy that I wrote this quite a long time ago:
========================================================

"Urban Myer has done nothing as a head coach but win. His overall record is 151-26.

Does anyone know if he has any interest in coaching in the NFL?

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/01/13/urban-meyer-on-nfl-jobs-not-right-now/

This is all I have found.

The article for sure leaves the door open. He is an Ohio guy. He has turned around every situation he has been in. The Browns are still waiting to be turned around.

After watching the Paul Brown "A Football Life". It struck me to look at Meyer.

At the end of the day coaching is about building a program that works. He has done that.

Obviously he knows college talent.

College coaches in the NFL have had mixed results. The thing that makes me feel good about Meyer coaching the Browns is very simple. He is a winner.

He seems like the type of guy that losing is out of question. That attitude alone would be refreshing.

I am interested in what others think about the possibility of him as head coach."

Now there is this report:

http://www.rantsports.com/nfl/2015/12/04...ext-head-coach/

It also appeared on the SI site.

If this accurate? Which still needs verification - WOW.

Meyer would have Total Control.

In many ways we need a Benevolent Dictator. A Philosopher King if you may.

We kind of went this road with Butch which of course ended badly.

Meyer is a different animal though.

The one that rings true with him is he knows how to organize. You can not argue with his record. Plus he may be the answer when it comes to the draft?

My major concern is college versus the Pros. There are major differences. Will he be able to look at college talent and successfully forecast that to the Pro game?

It would sure change things.

Probably right.

But this does not seem far fetched to me.

Sometimes where there is smoke there is fire.

It is the type of move I could see Haslam making.

jmo, but I can't see Urban going to the pro ranks. Ever. He's where he wants to be, and money probably isn't going to do it. Who knows.

I'm torn, the reason why..

I really love The Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoy seeing them play under Urban. I would fear his departure could hurt the football in Columbus.

On the other hand, I'm disappointed and burned out on the Pettine scene. Hearing him say .. "we are going to go out on Sundays and have fun, We're going to bloody some noses"... Then there was .."play like a Brown" now the word is "Accountability".

Pet needs to show some Accountability by firing O'Neil..

If we were to land Urban, There is a possibility of seeing some Nose bloodying. Less talk and more action is what I feel we would get from Urban. Speculation of course.

So yes I want to see the Buckeyes stay strong and the Browns play like a "Buckeye"

I always thought Ohio State was Urb's dream job?

Never heard of him wanting to coach the Browns before.

Is that wrong?

Hearing it directly from his mouth.. No. Assuming he has turned down offers from the Browns before to stay in Columbus.. He may have entertained the thought.

Maybe ?

Umm no. OSU is and always was his dream job. When he left Florida they stated the only way he would ever get into coaching again was if one of those 2 jobs opened. He had 2 opportunities to take the Notre Dame job and didn't.

The best I recall is that both Florida and Notre Dame were courting Meyer, and he chose Florida.

Do we know what NFL team he grew up rooting for? Not like that would make much of a difference but I dunno, pretty sweet gig down here.

I can't see offering a coach 'part ownership' in the team. If things don't work out, how do you fire a guy who's a part owner? Doesn't make sense.

I also have my concerns about a college coach coming to the NFL (they have to come from somewhere I know) but it rarely works out. I think Pete Carroll is an exception.

I know Urb is a motivator, but if they're being paid the money they are and they can't get motivated then how is a coach going to do it?

WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM

Urban

I guess we all are reading something written that Urban has said.

What counts is he is in Columbus and needs to stay there.

Timing is often everything.

The timing on this rumor seems right. It also has the type hallmark for Haslam.

Haslam went after Kelly big time.

Meyer represents a solution to Haslam. He looks at Meyer and sees success.

In many ways this seems like a possibility.

I also have concerns about coming from college to the NFL. Some guys can do it. Paul Brown for one. Jimmy Johnson is an another.

Meyer is a very organized guy. He may be the engine behind all this. This story is getting legs.

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=14292981

At this point it would not be a surprise.

So Urban Meyer called some random blogger to let his intentions be known? That's a weird way to drive this story. Did he lose Schefter's number?

Do not want Urban Meyer. His style of play will not succeed in the NFL. The spread only works in college because your offense has more speed on the field than the defense. That will simply not be the case in the NFL.

Seems like the 'best' reason to leave would be to see if he could bring 3 programs to win a championship? I think that would be the first if it happened and could make the argument for the best coach of all time?

I don't recall if anyone has done it yet? That and all he can do is get a measly 'second' companionship at OSU smile lol

Who knows when it comes to stuff like this?

All we can do is wait and see.

It just seems to fit Haslam.

I won't get into Meyer and what he would do or could do.

All I can say is it would be a change for sure.

I don't know why, but I get the feeling Urban has no desire to coach in the NFL. I feel like if he had wanted to, he would have tried it after the Florida stint. His dream OSU job just fell right into his lap and he hardly ever loses. He makes a ton of money and has plenty of the spotlight. No need to tarnish what he has built as a coach and come to this mess and have to work over twice as hard. This roster needs a complete overhaul and the time that it would take (3+ years), he just wouldn't see that through.

Ohio State Coach Urban Meyer relayed to the Columbus Dispatch Saturday via a school spokesman that he’s not interested in any other job.

It’s that time of year. A report by something called ChatSports on Thursday said the Browns were prepared to make Meyer the highest-paid coach in football, and that apparently created enough buzz that Meyer felt the need to respond.

Meyer, 51, has never coached in the NFL. After the Buckeyes won the national championship last January, Meyer answered a question about NFL interest by saying “not right now” and that he was committed to Ohio State.

Meyer grew up in Ashtabula, Ohio, about 60 miles east of Cleveland. Since the Browns have already changed coaches twice since he took over at Ohio State in Nov. 2011, the link is a natural one for the coaching rumor mill.

I have no proof, but I think Urban knew what was going down at Ohio State w/Tressel and he resigned because his dream job was going to come open.

Look...........Urban is great for Ohio State and the Browns would ruin Urban.

Let it go, people.

I can't think of a single reason that a coach like Urban or Saban would even consider coming here. They wouldn't make much more, they would have to draft and play FA instead of hand picking the best players every year, they would have to deal with players who are older and can't be controlled as easily.

If I was a college coach at that level and the Browns called, the response would be a slight chuckle followed by, "Uh.. .no thanks."

I hear you.

I think that Urban would never come here and I am not sure he would be great as an NFL coach.

Saban? I think there is a chance, or I would have never brought him up. I read that it bothers him that he did not succeed in the NFL. His ego might do the trick. Although, I do think it is highly doubtful. We would have to give him complete control. I would be good w/that, but I know that the local media and the majority of the "vocal" fan base would hate him immediately, because he would make sweeping changes.

Then again, I think that is exactly what we need.

Until and unless we get a successful administration, the "next" one is always going to make sweeping changes.
