Wasted pick up. We should have saved the $$ and grabbed someone's practice squad CB.

Or we could of kept Buster Skrine

Shouldn't have paid to get somebody this torched and flagged. Just rotten today.

In defense of whoever signs our free agents, at the time of this signing, Williams was the best looking CB willing to play in Cleveland.

I don't like Ray Farmer, and I fully support his dismissal, but I do fully believe he tried to be aggressive in free agency, he can't MAKE players want to come to Cleveland.

Williams has been a bust. I do miss Skrine.

He has fallen into a funk being asked to step in Haden's place. We have no shut down corner this season.

Williams gets beat.. Skrine gets flagged for PI.. no difference. Ball will end up down the field regardless. lol.

A very good pass rush would mask a lack of elite talent in the secondary. Unfortunately, we have neither...

Good points. In football, we often hear about working "to control what you can control." We do not control either line of scrimmage, tackling, avoiding flags (almost 100 yes. again!), pass coverage, tackling, blitzing, or even tackling!

These coordinators are failing beyond rookie status. Change what you are doing.

How many other teams scored just three and gave up over 30 yesterday? This season?

This is well beyond the time a learning curve can be an excuse.

Skrine got burnt yesterday just as bad. When Revis went down did they move Skrine to the Outside...now they promoted a Rookie. Only when that rookie went down did Skrine get moved to the outside. Loved Skrine when he was here, was actually one of the few who gave him props.

He just is not that good as an Outside CB. Better than nothing but his is very good in the slot.

Agreed. Skrine was brought to NYJ to be their slot. Williams was brought to CLE to be the #2 CB. Both are being asked to do things not intended of them, although injuries are a part of the game.

Still, I'd prefer Williams on the outside. And I like Skrine, just not there.

Hard to believe that people are still defending Williams. I haven't seen a corner getting burned this bad in a long time.

Bad-mouthing Skrine does not change that.

Just stating facts. And opinion. Not defending his play when he got burnt. Burnt is burnt.

Oh and a poster brought up Skrine...not me but thought I'd add the truth about that also.

Now you got any football to contribute. You know the thing you say you are about. Lets keep it to football and not he said she said stuff.

I said the same thing when people were wailing on Skrine last year.

It's not Williams fault that he's made to be our top corner when AJ Green comes to town. Williams was supposed to be a flex 2-3 corner, but Haden going down (and staying down), along with Gilbert being a loser blew that plan to hell.

Skrine also had a rough day yesterday, from what I heard on the radio. He's a DPI machine when he's made to cover top WRs.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Green hasn't been the only WR as of late to burn William's man press though is the concern.

and there in lies the problem.

Farmer and pettine we're pushing this "leadership" thing.

But we had Ward and Skrine, two home grown players, and replaced them with older guys and gave them bigger contracts.

Skrine and Ward are balling out on playoff/contender teams, while the guys we replaced them with are underperforming, and won't be around much longer.

Leadership is one thing, but if they aren't putting up the same production or better, than it means nothing.

Who is the Trammon Williams equivalent that we will have to sign in order to cover up the Erving mistake?

You're right. Kirk Cousins is probably better than Cam Erving.

Haden is no shut down corner either...at least not in a press coverage look.

He can be once he finally gets into his zone/rhythm. He always starts the season slow. This season was one of the worst ones.

He was supposed to have safety help on AJ Green.

Now he definitely could have done a better job of forcing Green to the inside, but the fact is it wouldn't have mattered because the safety wasn't in the same zip code.

Our corners haven't been getting safety help for a while now.

Or the safety help comes trotting in late after the play is over, flag thrown, score, or hold. Our secondary stinketh.

I've noticed Gipson kind of mailing it in too. Late to the pile, avoiding 50/50 contact, etc.

He's got a contract to worry bout.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

To be fair... Williams was supposed to come in and be 2nd or 3rd corner and a mentor to the many young DBs we have.

Instead Hayden has been hurt all year (it seems like) and Gilbert is a grade A bust, leaving Tramon to have to go against opposing #1's where he has lost a step or two.

But chalk up not resigning Skrine as another Farmer mistake.
