How many coaches are NOW successful that were not so successful as a Browns coach?

The two that come to my mind are Belecheck and Ariens.
I know there are others.

Belichick had us in the playoff's in his 3rd season and I think would have the 4th if the news of the move hadn't derailed that season. I can't really call him not so successful here.

A lot of coaches who have passed through here were successful either before they got here or after they left.. the two you listed are the only two that I can think of that went on to be successful HCs somewhere else. I guess unless you go all the way back to Marty.

Wasn't Arians our OC for our only playoff year since 1999?

2002 as most die hard fans know. ...Fired in 2003 for no reason other than Davis's personal decision.

None of our old head coaches, since 1999, have gone on to do anything great.

No other reason?

The media and fan pressure to fire him was intense. Most blamed Timid's failures on two things:

--the OL and Arians.

I can only speak about Head Coaches.

Belichick is the only former Browns HC that is successful somewhere else. He was here under completely different circumstances than the guys that were here after 1999.

Ariens was never HC here so from my perspective, he doesn't count. Would love to have him back here as HC..

If you look back at our Head Coaches since 1999, none have been successful head coaches anywhere else. If you look at Head Coaches going back to 1960, You have to add Paul Brown to the list. Same with Marty Shottenheimer.

Our two most successful Head coaches since the return were Davis and RAC. Each had a good year. ONE GOOD YEAR EACH.

I think it's just a series of bad hires by the Lerners and Haslam. Both sought advice from respected owners and both still made what turned out to be bad decisions.

But, honestly, look at those that they hired.

Palmer: A football guy that had been successful as a Coordinator.

Davis: Had been successful in the NFL as a coordinator and in college.

Robiski: He was interim so I don't see that as any big deal.

Romeo Crennal: Very successful position coach and coordinator in the NFL

Eric Mangini: Pretty successful position coach and Coordinator in the NFL. Was successful in the NFL with the Jets, but had tough luck with Favre going down.

Pat Shurmur: Probably the only guy that wasn't all that successful.

Chud: was successful with several teams as a position coach and coordinator. personally I think he was cut short here and it was a mistake.

Pettine: successful as a position coach and coordinator in the NFL.

Basically the only guy that I can see that didn't deserve the job is Shurmur. Everyone else had success and should have been considered.
