It's been a couple of weeks anyone have any stories ? As a bar owner I got my first warning today. There was no ashtrays , no smokes on the bar, no smoke in the air but since the person inspecting could smell smoke a warning was issued. Good lord what the hell kind of country do we live in ? I will protest although I'm sure I will be met with a "too freakin bad kind" of answer. I am a nonsmoker and this law makes me crazy. Hell, the inspector even " advised " that I not even sell smokes dispite the fact that I have a license to do so . So now not only do you have to worry about complying with the law you have to worry about the delicacy of the inspectors olfactory senses. Maybe I should grease the wheels of a certain inspector ? Hmmm.

Yeah, this law made no sence to me and I voted against it at the time. But, I've got to say as a non-smoker and my wife being pregnant over the winter it was nice being able to go to more bars and resturants and not worrying about the smoke.

What will you do when they decide to ban Dungeons and Dragons ? There goes your Friday nights.

It's stupid. Restaurants, okay...that's fine -- but bars? Seems like adults can't make their own decisions anymore. Bunch of nannies have to be handheld because they don't like smoke. Whatever. Go to a non-smoking bar then.

I've been to the bar ONCE since the ban took place. I probably won't go very often until football season. Too bad for the bar...they lose my $50 or $60 once a week or every other week. I'll stay home where I'm still pretty much free to do what I wish.

The self-centered little nannies have taken over the world. The more they do to make themselves happy, the more they want to take from others, because that is what REALLY makes them happy. They will be the ruination of this country if we allow them to continue to mindlessly mold the rest of the country to what they want, under the guise of "saving" the world.

Then don't freaking go to that establishment !!! I just don't understand the need to protect people from themselves. I see the point in a restaurant because as a nonsmoker I hate the smell of it when I am eating but you know what goes on in a bar so if you don't like it ....don't enter.

Whether you smoke or not, it's still wrong to tell adults how to run their businesses, don't ya think?

Yes, I do think it is wrong when put in that context.

But I shouldn't have to choose between the Bar/Resturante and staying home because of how smokey the place is.

that's not very fair either.

Like I want my pea coat dry cleaned after every bar trip?

Im just saying, it may be in inconvinience for you to not smoke, but it is just as anoyying for me to huff in smoke all night long.

Don't get me wrong..I was just stating it was nice as a non smoker but after the ban was voted on and was suppose to take effect last Dec. we went to a few places that still allowed smoking. We simply found another place to eat. We didn't bitch or moan or call some stupid 800 # to complain we just found another place that didn't have smoking.

I voted against the law and I'd do it again.

As have I Michelle. My wife does not even want to go out to eat anymore since she can't smoke inside in Ohio. The few times we have gone out, we have gone to Pennsylvania and spent our money.

No need to call names.

I never said I enjoyed smoke, I just am not selfish enough to tell others what to do. Business owners should make their own decisions, not the crybabies making it for them.

Most people just dont get the whole just of this ban....It has nothing to do with smoking....it has to do with people telling you what you can and can not do!....What if they baned beer in public? you wouldnt like that.

Yes, you should. Sorry, but that's what life is all about. CHOICE. Well, it used to be anyway.

Yes, it is. There would be plenty of non-smoking bars where smokers would chose not to go...same difference.

If you're going to a smoking bar, why wear your pee coat?

Again....choose another bar if you can't handle it. Just as I would choose not to go to the non-smoking bars. Duh! It's really not that hard to understand.

I like the smoking ban.

Every time I came home from the bars I reeked like an ashtray and it drove me nuts because I don't smoke.

Being able to breathe at the bars is a godsend, and for those who say "go to a non-smoking bar," there was no such thing in Athens.

You did exactly what my wife and I used to do when we wanted to go out but not smell like an ashtray...we went somewhere else. Simple isn't it. I voted against this law as well although it seems there were enough bluehairs and yuppie whinners who thought it was o.k. to dictate to everyone that they didn't want to smell smokey the one night a month they wanted to go out.

Then take it up with the bar owners in Athens. Did you ever tell any bar owner you didn't appreciate the smoke? Doubt it.

Then entire city of Centerville, Ohio was smoke free for about three years before the ban.

So your saying I should travel to Centerville to go to a bar? That's not realistic.

That's not a choice, it's banishment.

I think that they should ban pee coats. If you aren't in the Navy you have no business wearing them anyway. Then we would see where Mr. " I don't want to smell smokey wahhhhh !! " likes that law.

I understand the "rights", I really do, but I think in this case it is different. My health should in no way be effected because of someones "choice" to smoke around me. Where are MY rights in that?

I would like to see what the percentages say about smokers vs. non smoekrs as a US population.

95% of my patrons smoke so better the 5 % have there way right ? You just can't grasp the concept can you. I realize talking to someone like you is akin to banging my head against a wall so I'll stop now.

LOL, banishment? Much like smokers are banished now? Guess it's okay as long as it doesn't affect you, though.

And, no...I didn't say you should travel to Centerville. You asked me a question and I answered. If you wanted non-smoking bars, you should have made a stink (hahaha) with the owner.

The problem is BpG, while this ban doesn't affect you directly, one of these days something will. Then you will whine and cry that your rights are being violated. And, you will be right. Just as business owners and smokers are right this time around.

Ya and your arguments are just as weak. Too bad, so sad, the law was past.

WWAAAAAAAHHH

I grasp the concept, but your condecending attitude toward me isn't going to help your argument IN ANY WAY. Sorry

The smoking ban is stupid. Here at OSU there are certain places where you can't even smoke OUTSIDE!!!!

I don't smoke, but I don't mind smoke, and I don't mind smokers. I feel bad for all the smokers out there, that are finding themselves having to smoke in "smokers' reservations." And those reservations are growing smaller and smaller.

I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......
