I just read every post in this thread and all I could think of was "Broadway Joe." That's Joe Namath for those born too young to remember.) He led the Jets to the first AFC Super Bowl win. Fur coat and all those girls. LOL
The BIG difference being Joe could back up his mouth ON the field.
JM has made strides in his maturity but has a long way yet to go.
He may not reach maturity until he is with another team. I hope he doesn't come back to haunt us.
Oh no not Joe I don't want to see Johnny doing this at a Browns game in 4o years.
I just don't get the admiration of a QB (Davis) who could not get us into the Red Zone once the entire game.
well obviously pettine thinks he is a nfl QB. he thinks he might have more upside than the cocaine cowboy.
If that is the case then Pettine has to go. Also the use of cute terms like Cocaine Cowboy don't make it so. When he is arrested for it or fails the NFL protocol on substance abuse then it actually means something. I'm all for discipline on Manziel and get him to mature. But to actually "THINK" Davis is a viable starter for us if that is the case then Pettine sadly doesn't have a clue. This ain't HS where you want discipline over talent. We are in the big leagues and Talent will win out its about that fine line of teaching the Player to be mature.

I don't know. Paul Brown would never have drafted a drunk like Manziel to begin with. He seemed to think high character players bring out more than just pure talent.
You can't fix stupid but you can destroy ignorance. When you destroy ignorance you remove the justifications for evil. If you want to destroy evil then educate our people. Hate is a tool of the stupid to deal with what they can't understand.
I embrace clarity, even if desperate or of the last resort. JFF once again. May be our last winnable game. "Winnable"is such a subjective term. . . . .

Drunk? Party and immature is all I know. In this day and age. Out right Drunks have at least one DUI charge against them. I'm not quite sure if that exactly applies to Manziel.
I know our experience with Gordon possibly has had something to do with the situation.
Btw I went over the written transcript of the 12/7 Pettine Presser and I don't see much of what has been said of him here on this board. Also if I had to guess he hasn't been advised that his job is up.
Is it possible that all Assume too much???

“Johnny will be our starting quarterback on Sunday,” Browns coach Mike Pettine said. “He’s been solid in the building over the last couple of weeks and we are hopeful he takes this opportunity to continue to build on the progress he’s made on the field throughout the season. The goal for every game is to go out and win, and Johnny needs to show that he can put us in position to do so during these last four weeks of the season.”
Johnny Manziel was informed Tuesday he’ll be the Browns’ starting quarterback beginning Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

Manziel takes over for Austin Davis, who made his first start with the Browns in Cleveland’s Week 13 loss to the Bengals. Davis, who threw for 230 yards and an interception against the Bengals, will resume his role as the backup.
Manziel has appeared in six games this season and started three, the most recent coming Nov. 15 at Pittsburgh. He’s completed 76-of-128 passes for 933 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. He also has 73 rushing yards.
On the season, Cleveland’s three quarterbacks have completed close to 63 percent of their passes for 3,349 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Ok so now we have one player ready to go for Sunday, will all the others compete? With these two bottom feeders going at it, it should be a pretty good game. We will see how much heart this team has come Sunday.
I hope he can stay healthy (and sober!). We've waiting a long time for this.
I think Manziel will do pretty well against the 49ers. Their defense is not very good.
The next two weeks he will be destroyed. The defenses of the Seahawks and Chiefs against our offense is a mismatch of epic proportions.
Not like sticking him in their against the Bengals would have been any better, he has to prove he can play. Hand picking cupcake defenses for him to play, Tennessee, Pittsbrugh isn't doing him any favors.
My gut tells me he will crumble and we'll see Austin Davis again.
News report..... JM is starting the rest of the season
35 sec Pressor by Pettine ....That's not the case. (Power tripping) I haven't made that decision. (Control Freak) I haven't talked to the QB's. (Micro Managing).
All of which is ok I guess for a HC with a winning record. Not right here, right now. Get the friggin team ready this week Ok?

I'm not saying we shouldn't play Manziel, just that he will probably suck in two of the four games he will play.
That means we will have a new starting QB next year.
Do you think he'll suck in the first two, last two or alternate them?
Not suck, suck, suck, not suck.
No matter what happens, we won't have enough of a sample to know if Manziel is good (we wouldn't have even if he started when he was originally supposed to).
Doverdawg, is there an over/under for total penalty yards for this one? That might be interesting . . . .
Not sure if there's a prop bet for that or not, but San Fran averages 7-47 a game, and Cleveland averages 8-70 so if they both play to their averages, the Browns will lose the penalty yards battle of the game.
IMO this is a good sign for Johnny. If the Browns were done with him without question he would be on the bench. If "Haslam" were done with him Pettine would never have started him again.
So if he plays well, taking into consideration that the rest of the team is weak, he will be back. If he gets killed but tries and it can be put on the weakness of the supporting cast, he will be back. If he stinks it up he loses a lot of trade value, he might still be back...
So if he plays well, taking into consideration that the rest of the team is weak,
I was thinking, If Johnny lights it up, I wonder if some of the players that seem to be slacking off will step it up a bit..
Going to be a tough situation for JM if the team stops playing to their fullest due to the record. I guess Johnny will know what it's like when your teammates don't play like they care..Taste of his own medicine. But I hope that's all in the past for everyone.
Johnny lights it up and wins the last 4.. Does he save Pets job ? Like Pet says, take it week by week.

If that happens I'll be shocked. San Fran will be no pushover, they've hung with some pretty good teams in their last four games, and beyond them the remaining schedule seems as tough or tougher than it has been at any point this season.
