This Saturday at noon in a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) quarterfinal:
Northern Iowa @ North Dakota State
You may recall the Bison (ND State) are the 4 time returning FCS Champions and opened the college football season back on August 29th (against the Montana Grizzlies).
Remember? It was the first real game of the season. (and we were all starved for action after 7 months of zero football)
PS. North Dakota State is odds on favorite to 5-peat. They’re a juggernaut I tell ya.
And this is part of the reason I'm really gun-shy on Wentz... they just dominate year after year. Their last QB seemed like a player, too... now he's faded into oblivion. Their OL is just so dominant year after year at that level that they make everyone look good.
That's part of the reason why I took note of Tyrone Holmes from Montana after that game. He was dominating the RT and LT and getting after Wentz and the RBs for much of the game. He's got real strength and Armonty-like size. Probably not as good as Armonty overall, but would make a reasonable spell guy for him going forward I think.
"And this is part of the reason I'm really gun-shy on Wentz..."
Right. During the game today the announcers were saying Wentz might be the 3rd or 4th QB selected in the 2016 draft. Sounds like a Browns' first round pick to me.
Fasten your seatbelts cowboys and cowgirls. Let’s see what we got.
Up first:
The Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl - North Carolina A&T vs. Alcorn State @ noon.
Never heard of it. Remember 30 years ago when The Liberty Bowl was always the first bowl game? Now the Liberty Bowl is like a showcase granddaddy game. In any case. Take the Aggies and give the points. (The Alcorn State Braves are 1 ½ point dawgs)
Gildan New Mexico Bowl - Arizona vs. New Mexico @ 2 pm.
Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl - BYU vs. Utah @ 3:30 pm.
Raycom Media Camellia Bowl - Ohio vs.Appalachian State @ 5:30 pm
AutoNation Cure Bowl - San Jose State vs. Georgia State @ 7 pm
R and L Carriers New Orleans Bowl - Arkansas State vs. Louisiana Tech @ 9 pm
SNEBB (Southern New England Browns Backers) club president Scott Bacon will not miss a single bowl game. His home office is set-up like Sports Central command post. He'll be at his PCs constantly watching the action and monitoring his picks. (He picks every game) And when necessary he will have multiple games on at once. He will not miss a single game. Same goes for March Madness. When I lived closer I always used to watch a handful of Bowl games with Scott.
Me, I’ve got a wide variety of munchies (including cheese/potato pierogis). I’ll have at least one pot of coffee (I take it with cream - tomorrow with egg nog). My plan is to start with the Celebration Bowl until 2 pm, then AZ vs NM, then BYU vs Utah and finally Ohio vs. Appalachian State.
By 8:30 I’m done. I'll probably miss the New Orleans Bowl. And then we’ve got a late Browns game on Sunday (late for me)
Matakevich IMO is so overrated. He was awful vs. Penn State. He got two sacks on overload blitzes when he was the unblocked guy, but who hasn't sacked Christian Hackenburg? Other than that he was way out of position on multiple runs, including a huge TD run up the gut right at him.
What a day yesterday. Probably the best day in Mid-American Conference football history. (no MAC team has ever won a national championship)
Both underdogs win. Akron wins its first Bowl game ever. Toledo should finish the year in the top-25.
I’m exhausted. And we’ve only just started. I gotta pace myself; still a lot of college football left including two more MAC games today:
San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl (or simple Poinsettia Bowl for God’s sakes) - Boise State vs. Northern Illinois, 4:30 pm EST, Boise State by 8 ½.
GoDaddy Bowl - Georgia Southern vs. Bowling Green, 8 pm EST, Bowling Green by 7.
Let’s see if Northern Illinois all-conference RB Joel Bouagnon can carry the Huskies in game one.
I predict the birds will win game 2 today. (get it? that’s a joke) (It’s the Eagles vs. the Falcons)(the “birds” will win game 2)(get it?)(is anybody there?)
Side note: SNEBB President Scott Bacon is a Bowling Green alum.
Two gigantic blown calls against B1G teams. Maybe it's the crazy in me, but I'm smelling conspiracy. Or other conferences don't know what football looks like.
I don't know how to post the video, but Toledo got screwed in Syracuse several years ago on a FG that would have won the game (IIRC). It happens. It's not a conspiracy - just awful referees.
"If it weren't for my horse, I wouldn't have spent that year in college" GO ROCKETS

I would say, the fact a missed XP was called good on the field AND after a replay would scream conspiracy to me. It was obvious it was wide left live...how can you screw up the replay?
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
If anyone is curious about the Military Academies recruitment click here. It's a pretty short and interesting read. Kinda makes me want to dust off an old NCAAF game and recruit like they do.
I've got a friend that played football at Army. He's a couple of years older, but we've become much better friends in the last 5-6 years or so, as we have daughters the same age.
According to him, football practice was easy compared to the regimented day all the cadets had, each day.
Quinshad Davis looked amazing in North Carolina's loss today. Love the fight in that team, fwiw. Butch installed that Hurricane swagger into them and they kept it. They are not afraid to punch you in your mouth and then start talking more trash. Love it. But I digress, if Quinshad was showing impressive body control and was catching with his hands. He looked slow, but good route running and awareness can help with separation. I'd take a flyer on him in the 6th. Wouldn't be upset with a higher round depending on his combine numbers.
