I will always love Gardocki for giving the middle finger to the Stooler player that one day!

But we have no need for him now, as we have the new medicine - Zastudil.

lol... not saying we need or want him, I love The Zast. Just thought it was interesting they got rid of him, seemed to me he always played well for them, at least he did when they played us. I wish him the best.

Exactly.Gardocki will find a new home somewhere,he's still a very good punter.

Best of luck to him, even though he played for the Steelers.

It's really too bad we can't carry two punters, but I'm quite happy with Zastudil

Gardocki has had a pretty bad 2 years....he turned it on come playoff time during the Super Bowl run....and as we all know..he never had one blocked....LOL...but his average was coming down.....As soon as the Steelers took Sepulveda in the draft...Gardocki was as good as done....Sepulveda has been BOOOMING the ball in camp thus far....Lots of hang time....60+ yards....and he has some new Aussie style punt that puts a weird backward spin on the ball...that seems to be giving return men problems getting a handle on....

When a reporter brought up how well Sepulveda looked to Tomlin....he just answered...."He better" since the Steelers drafted him in the 4th round.

Well they used their first of two 4th round picks to draft a punter from Baylor. So this came as no surprise - teams don't draft punters in the 4th round cause they plan on keeping the vet. Whats surprising is they are releasing him now instead of after training camp as teams tend to keep extra punters so that their starter doesn't get dead leg from punting too much.

Guess they respect Gardocki enough to release him early so he can hook up with another team quickly???

Yes, this guy is more than a "kicker' he is a football player. When he was with the Bears I remember him chasing down a punt returner and tackling him. Not a mamby-pamby tackle either it was a bone cruncher! He should get a job soon. The Redstinks could use him. Now their punter is Frostie the Short Leg.

Thats exactly whats going on....The Steelers also have a punter by the name of Mike Barr...who IMO beat out Gardocki last offseason......Gardocki still gets the ball out faster than most...but he just didnt have the distance and accuracy he once had....Cowher choose to keep the guy they knew....even though Barr was having a better camp...because of the quick release.

So the Steelers will go with Barr and Sepulveda......also I agree...I loved that Gardocki was a hitter in a kickers number....but I think the Steelers got another one in Sepulveda...who was a walk on LB...who made the move to Punter

Here is a link that was making all the rounds on Sepulveda LINK

Its a 63 yard punt...that ends with him making a solid tackle...worth the watch.

Definitely worth the watch. Wow, what a weapon - a good punter who turns into a very solid special teams player once he kicks the ball away.

One thing that impressed me from the video....is not only did he kick off from his own 27 or so....the ball lands at the 10....He makes the tackle at the 20....He made it down field pretty quickly as well.

Yeah, I was expecting the tackle to be a little further upfield.

Sorry Hack, but tackling punters get hurt in the NFL. If he can kick it 60 yards, you DO NOT want him trying to make tackles.

Oh I am with you on this....and I have said as much over on the Steeler board....I would rather never have to see him HAVE to make a tackle....just kind of nice knowing he can if he has to......But normally if he is making the tackle...thats gonna mean 10 others guys did not get to where they should have gotten.

I'm glad bpg brought it up, and I'm glad you agreed..........your point was exactly what I was going to say - In the nfl, if a punter is making the tackle, 10 other guys missed. And I don't care how hard the punter takes down the returner.

Frost averaged 43 yards a punt last year, something Gardocki has done once in the last five years.

You did not use net punting avg. as a stat. Why is that?

Even then, Frost has had equal or better net average for the last two seasons, and Gardocki's on the decline as it is. Frost is the better option at this point for any team.

Actually I was very impressed with Ponti and his added coverage skills that he has provided us as well as being spot on with his snaps. He gets down field quick and on more than one occasion be the difference maker on the coverage.

Frost; A better option???

A punter or kicker can have an off year, it doesn't mean their career is over. I'm sure he will bounce back and be productive. At the time we released him I was not happy about that, however, since getting Zastudil I'm thrilled with this young man and I hope he stays our punter for a very long time.

Steelers | Gardocki released

I remember all the doom and gloom on the old board when he went to the Steelers.

Hopefully we're getting to the point where the punter is no longer our most used guy.

hahaha, he was our MVP like two straight years.

I am sure Mr. Frost and his 3 yard punts fuels that doom and gloom.
