The Good:
--Flip actually ran the ball quite a bit. It's amazing what can happen when you commit to it.
--Crow showed patience and explosion, as well as some speed and power. Very good game.
--Duke ran hard and had a bit of a burst. Good change of pace back.
--Johnny provided a spark. He has more fire than most of our players. What happened w/him and Brooks? I never did see exactly what happened.
--JM bought time and made some big passes for first downs. He seemed more poised. He played very well.
--Kruger and Bryant provided consistent pressure all day.
--The OL was beyond good. They were awesome. They opened up holes for our backs and they gave Johnny all day. It was amazing how much time he had to throw. The guy who took Irving's place really helped out. Mack dominated, and the others were excellent. Joe T did a great job of gap blocking.
--Whit is a tough guy. A lot of people don't like him, but he is our most consistent defender. He plays hard every week. He was excellent yesterday.
--Barnidge, Benji, and Hartline were all productive.
--We finally had a pass rush. Pressuring the qb changes almost everything. It was fun to watch.
--A. Bryant was very active.
--Orchard made a couple of plays, but I don't think they were really good plays, he just wasn't really blocked.
The Bad:
--It was irritating when Flip stopped running the ball for awhile in the second half.
--Johnny's interception. Terrible decision, but you will get that w/young qbs, especially after they have been making some plays while extending them.
--Winston's fumble.
--Another blocked kick.
--Not sure where this love for Gaines is coming from. He was fried last week and had loose coverage for most of the game yesterday. He did have one nice play, but overall.......blah.
The Ugly:
--Irving getting pushed backwards on almost every kick? Why do they leave him in there? He might be the weakest linemen I have ever seen. No one gets knocked backwards and down as much as he does.

What happened w/him and Brooks? I never did see exactly what happened. I think JFF questioned his parentage. They were jawing at each other, and Brooks started losing it. If he can consistently make players lose their cool without getting killed for it, I'm good with that.

Armonty Bryant looked REALLY good Kirksey had a good day Barnidge and Benji continue to impress Crow had his best day of the year Johnny looks to be progressing Our run D was stout for once
on the flip side:
Cam Erving is atrocious ... literally the 49ers entire team is worse
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

SF has been playing fairly well lately. They won last week and they took Arizona to the wire a few weeks ago. In fact, if the refs wouldn't have ripped them, they should have won the game.
That was the same week Pittsburgh and New England were also raped by the refs while playing Seattle and Denver.

Good.
A lot of fire out there today...where has that been all year. Was it Manziel? Whittner? But the best team fire and fun I saw all year.
Manziel- they blitzed like crazy and he was able to conquer the blitz. Spent more time in the pocket even on his plays that he ran outside.
Crowell...first time I've seen him hit the hole fast and aggressively. I was wondering if he could ever be our RB cause he never showed me decent vision. This game was the first he made quick decisions and they were correct. Obviously his best game. Did we match our season total for rushing TD's
Hartline...had his best game too bad he's not that athletic to make a lot of those pass receptions into TDs but he ran excellent routes and Manziel depended on him a lot.
Moore...I like this kid I know statistically he didn't do much but I like his fire and toughness he runs good routes and blocks well - he needs to get on the field more.
OL was outstanding picking up the blitz and creating some excellent run lanes that our RBs hit before they closed.
Defense...was intense on the whole Did Gibson even play didn't see him at all.
the kids on D...A Bryant, Cooper, Orchard, Shelton all got excited and super hyped which was infectious even the veterans had no choice but to get into as well.
Kirksey...I know I must be the only one who loves this kid. I like his fire and his game day speed is good. He has the best explosion of all our LBs.
When you hold a team who was hot to 3 points most the game it is a GOOD DAY.
The Bad...The new guy on OL - don't get use to him. He really didn't have one on one battles all day. One of the few timed he did I actually was watching him and he got burnt bad. I was surprised they didn't attack his area more with blitzes. He did play his heart out.
FG unit...Do they understand the concept of the WALL?
The one pass of Manziel across his body that was going left and then threw right. His only real blemish of the day.
The UGLY. Erving on special teams getting knocked over - get over the demotion and get your head in the game kid.
MEDIA COVERAGE OF OUR GAME - post game. Manziel get caught with a beer in his hand and its 24/7 smashing him and the Browns. He has a solid game and all they show is his INT and then actually say - "Oh yeah and his lone TD a 3yard toss to Barnidge" Like they had to show it and were disappointed. smh
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

Kirksey...I know I must be the only one who loves this kid. I like his fire and his game day speed is good. He has the best explosion of all our LBs. Kirksey can lay those pads on someone well, but he never wraps up. He needs to get out of head hunter mode and tackle better.

The Good - Our first win in two months. - Manziel looked comfortable and went through progressions. - Duke and Crow exhibited patience waiting for holes and exploded through them. - We scored more than 3 points. - Brady Quin's commentary.
The Bad - Johnny's interception. - The safety that could have been. - Punt coverage.
The Ugly - Cam Erving's "blocking". - Our situation at WR. I've been out working on my route running, waiting for the call. But, I doubt they'll take a 44 year old that runs about 7.5 40.

Didn't watch the game, so just from reading stats and watching all of the highlights..
Didn't both of our 50 yard runs go right overtop of that new guy Pasztor? Also noticed Crowell had a little hitch step as he approached the line which gave them just enough time to get the hole open and then he was gone.
I think the most impressive thing is that this dis-spells the rumors that this team quit weeks ago... For whatever reason, they came to play and played the full 60 minutes.
It's almost like some players and coaches were worried about their jobs..

Paztor makes Pettine look vindicated and Ray Farmer look terrible. I’ve never seen a player get pushed around as much as Erving. smh
Manziels decision making was questionable. There were a couple of times I just wanted him to throw it away. He really got bailed out on the facemask penalty, you cannot dance and side step (no matter how good you are at it) in your own end zone.
Johnny just has the look that the stage is never too big for him, the same type of guy he was in college where the bigger the spotlight the more calm he seems. I will be very interested to see how he plays against the next three teams….Seahawks, Chiefs and Steelers are all playoff bound teams. I may be re-thinking my thoughts that we must draft a QB.
Hearing the Crowd chant Johnny, seemed premature but you can't blame them for being excited.
Being in the stadium and hearing the Crowd just swoon over Phil Dawson, was bitter sweet.....on one hand it's freaking sad we feel that strongly about a kicker, but on the other it was a nice gesture.
Shelton consistently out of the game…..Yes, he played with much better pad level and was far more effective this week, but they take him out for long stretches of time. Usually during those times, they are running the ball down our throat because meder sucks.
Gains is a nice backup corner, he is instinctual and plays to the whistle. He lacks high end speed, but I like him.
Side note:
I thought when we lost Shannahan we were in trouble on offense. I do not feel like that anymore, Flips gameplan was fantastic yesterday, being at the game, there were so many times Hartline was just running wide open, a couple Johnny hit him, but a couple he didn’t. They exposed a lot of mismatches with the shifts, it was an excellent gameplan.
On the other side, Shanny’s offense has fallen apart in Atlanta. They got shut out by Carolina. Matt Ryan looks horrible, once again a hot start, followed by an abysmal finish for Shanny, is that 3 years in a row?

They exposed a lot of mismatches with the shifts, it was an excellent gameplan. My biggest complaint with Flip is that he seems to panic way too early. You get down by 10 in the second quarter and he won't run the ball again the rest of the day. I don't know if he doesn't trust the plan or if he doesn't trust the personnel or what it is.. but he seems to abandon the base game plan at the first sign of adversity. My own side note: What is this staffs infatuation with having a 3rd RB in the rotation? We have shuffled in about 4 or 5 of them now and they aren't working. Crow/Duke are more than capable of carrying that little bit of extra load they want to give to the 3rd back. If you really feel you need one, try to find one in the offseason and stop experimenting with it during games... it's not working.

In the spirit of the Good, Bad and Ugly thread I thought I'd add this for your reading pleasure if you have a few minutes. It's the 9ers GB&U thread and while the original post offers up their first gem of the thread in the first "good" mention, it gets better and some of you will notice while the uni's may be different, we're not so different after all. http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/niners/184123-game-good-bad-ugly/

The Ugly:
--Irving getting pushed backwards on almost every kick? Why do they leave him in there? He might be the weakest linemen I have ever seen. No one gets knocked backwards and down as much as he does. Erving made the same mistake this week, that he made last week.
LG Shelton takes the man on his inside shoulder, between him and Center Mack...when that happens, every lineman on that side of the line takes the man to their inside...a basic rule of FG blocking.
The basic idea is to create a pile to the inside, making sure no defender splits our gaps and the last man on the outside has to take the long way around to have any chance of blocking the kick.
Last week, Erving took the man over, rather than the man to his inside, between him and Shelton, and that Bengal blocked the FG attempt, splitting the gap between Erving and Shelton.
Shelton made the same mistake this week, that he made last week, with the same result.
I'm beginning to think that Erving is dumber than a box or rocks.

THE GOOD:
Benji, Barn and Johnny. All had good days.
Flip's game plan. The OL * (more on that later) The DL * Crow and Duke, although I'm liking the Duke more and more.
THE BAD:
Johnny in the end zone and the INT. Winston's fumble Blocked kick
THE UGLY: Special Teams. They were our best unit all season and now the last couple of games, in the crapper. I don't know if Tabor has new people or what but man we've really fallen off.
* - OL, These guys played with passion today, where has that been all year? I got an idea, later.
* - DL, although not as good as the OL, these guys brought it today, again where has that been all year?
OK, now for the "idea".
I've heard that Haslam was on the sidelines today. I really think this was Jimmy's game. I have a feeling that Jimmy laid down the law, not just with the coaches, but with the players as well. I think Pet was told to take over the D and if they had to go back to last years scheme, then do it. Use the players like they did last year. I think Flip was told to do the same, Although I think Flip likes Johnny and will work with him. I've read other places that Johnny's gone if we switch coaches but I don't think that's true. Gruden loves the guy, and I don't think Jimmy will hire another "pet" type this time. It will be somebody that is willing to work with what we have and whoever we get in the draft, if any changes are made at all. I think O'Neil is toast and we need a OL coach.

Boy,, I agree with everything you wrote,, But you kinda have to take a win like this over SF with caution. They I think are the 28th ranked D.
Next week will be a true test. If they come out and bring it to Seattle, IN SEATTLE, win or lose, they'll get a bunch of well deserved praise.
Would love to see them win that game if for no other reason then for someone to wipe that smug look off Sherman LOL. (I know, terrible of me)
KC isn't going to be a cake walk either and as always Pittsburgh is firing on all cylinders right now.
This isn't going to be easy. But it could be revealing!

I will add one statement to your good:
Orchard...unlike Mingo... when Orchard crashes down he does not scrap the LOS within a yard or less, as a result he is not as easily pinned in and does not give up the edge.
His feet are much quicker than Mingo and he is able to react to the ball carrier.

I would love to see us compete with (and possibly beat Seattle) also because I've seen about 1000 posts on FB like "Yeah, call me when we beat a decent team."
It's kind of funny most of the press I've seen is about how bad the 49ers are. If they had come out and beaten us like that it would be about how bad we are... it was a no-win situation but something the team needs to feel good about, learn from, and bring some of that confidence next week.

It's going to be tough in Seattle. They are playing very well right now. They are right there w/Carolina, Arizona, New England, and Pittsburgh.
I am just glad the Browns didn't quit like they have in so many other seasons. It was nice to see us play so hard and actually have some success.

It's a legitimate statement from those folks, and the narrative is what it is for good reason: we are bad, and are historically, traditionally, continually bad. It is the norm. They are bad, but are in a down year and are not usually THIS BAD. It's expected of us, it's not expected of them.
Browns is the Browns

To go along with that, I was watching a program on the NFL network about yesterdays games.. It's funny, Johnny came out from the start and was pretty darn good. IN fact, with the exception of the Pick, he had a good game. So what do they start out with? You guessed it, the pick. Then they went on to say that he calmed down and played well. Someone seeing that that didn't watch the game would think that Manziel was bad until that pick and that woke him up. That's just not the case at all. Typical media slant. But, truth be told, we are an awful team that had a good game against a lesser quality opponent. Let's see what happens the rest of the way.

LOL.. he was 13/19 for 162 and we had scored 10 points when he threw the INT.. could have been more without the blocked FG and the fumble. He played pretty well from start to finish.

The Good;
JFF! There's not enough good things to say. He went through his progressions nicely, remained calm and was accurate. He displayed poise. While a lot still remains to be seen, it certainly was a nice start.
I think you covered it pretty well Vers but I have to add the teams intensity. Both D and O were playing to win.
Also, it was nice to actually see pass rushers rushing the passer.
Bad;
The Int. and the fumble.
Ugly;
Erving.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

GOOD A win. I actually enjoyed the game. Pettine showed emotion smiling on the sidelines. JM had a solid day with some pass blocking and a run game. Flip worked the middle and gouged them. Good decisions almost all day for JM. He seemed focused. The D — sacks aplenty! Got pressure, sacks, contacts, long overdue. Kruger and Bryant! Flip had a more aggressive day at last.
BAD We are stronger without Erving. Loved the game his replacement turned in. Cammy has trouble holding his ground and getting turned or turning. Blood boils watching Bowe chatting and grinning as a healthy scratch. Erving blocking. Fumbles. hardline gone.
Ugly The remaining games. The concussion reaper who has sidelined so many. The O'Neil prevent zone.

Everybody learned something from it, especially Manziel who ran backwards into an 11 yard sack and then almost got nabbed for a safety (even though I think if the guy doesn't get the facemask, Manziel gets away) far too close to be playing with that... but it's all ok, learning experience... better than plowing into the LOS 3 times

Blood boils watching Bowe chatting and grinning as a healthy scratch. I feel bad for him. No way is he so bad that he cannot sniff the field with so many of our guys out. We even signed Pryor and put him on the field ahead of Bowe. The guy stands on the sideline every week and is made to look the fool. If any of us were treated like that at our jobs we'd quit. He doesn't have such an option other than to retire. I just find it hard to believe that he's so bad. I wonder how many opportunities he gets at practice. If this is Pettine using Bowe to get back at Farmer it sickens me he'd use a guy like that.

I think Rish Alluded to it in another post, Pet is going over board on the whole High School coaching thing. Bowe isn't kissing Pet's butt, so he doesn't play. You can't treat grown men like High schoolers. How many hoops can you jump through? Like I said earlier Pet's got a check list and if you get enough check marks on the good side you play, but the only problem with that is, there not robots. You've got to drive these guys, push 'em. I think Pet thinks the Vets know what to do and leaves it up to them. You can't do that. These guys get lazy and coast, we all have seen the results of that for the last 2 months. Look what happens when coaches start to push and everybody gets involved. I think Jimmy had a lot to do with that. Lets hope this is a new trend for them.

I'm not blaming Pet for Farmers mistakes, Farmers a whole nutter matter I tend to jump the gun on things, but man Pet has gone down hill (for me at least) this yr. Last year I was pumped about him, This yr. not so much. I don't know what happens at the end of the year, but if they bring in a new D-cord. and keep Pet, I guess that's alright, but man I'm going to be upset if they keep both. I think Farmer can be replaced easier than Pet.

LOL I loved the one catch by Moore, where he just leveled everyone in his way on that 12 yard catch. It seemed like one of those passes that could have been a 4 yarder, except that Moore just never gave up.

I don't really see things/decisions as a conspiracy. I'm just trying to make sense of it. There's no way I can believe Bowe is that bad or even that complacent. If he is, then F him. But it seems that every since he had that hamstring he's been vilified and hated on. Maybe he is a chump. I'm not privy to all that. It just seems that signing a big contract and then instantly becoming a slacker would be out of the ordinary for a vet. If that's what he did then there's another feather in Farmer's cap.

I was probably one of the people who was happiest when we signed Bowe. I really liked him as a player. However, fir him to be inactive when practice squad guys are brought up to the active roster is really telling. In a season where the head coach's job *may be* in jeopardy ...... for an experienced, (former) big play, big receiver to be unable to even become active on gameday is extremely telling. It would not surprise me one bit to hear stories when he is gone next year.

Like a lot of the whacked out theories put forward in here, I have my own thoughts, and it's along the lines that I believe that Bowe is milking his last big guaranteed contract. He has enough guaranteed money to retire modestly, even comfortably..... why put the body through the season of extra hits and potential injury when you can just skate and not work? In such a case, cutting him is simply rewarding him, so why not keep him and force him to play the game lest he be in breach of contract where we could get that money back. I could totally see where he takes that hit, gets concussed, and starts thinking real strong about the future and whether or not it's worth it to take the physical toll. If he retires, I think the money freezes and he technically remains under contract, but if he puts forth minimal effort, he won't get activated and he collects his game checks and will retire healthy in the near future. One thing is for sure - there is SOMETHING up, we just all have no way of knowing. There is no way that it is a talent or skill issue, and I highly doubt that it is a "still learning the offense issue". He's have to be dumber than a retarded box of rocks with a lobotomy to still be learning it at this stage. That leaves pretty much nothing but unsavory options.

Perhaps Pet doesn't know how to motivate the players correctly.

Perhaps Pet doesn't know how to motivate the players correctly. At this level, I think it is more about players motivating themself, but there sure seems to be a disconnect between player and coach.

well it was a facemask. Also if you watch the replay you think Manziel wouldn't have scampered away from him without him pulling on the face mask and catching up to Manziel to sack him? Manziel gets away going to the right probably hitting an open WR or running for yards or at the worst throwing the ball away.
