I don't agree w/all the takes on this thread, but people were actually trying to talk football. Your intent was "Hey, look at me!"
Lame! no. i am pointing out a reason he cannot be trusted. and that has direct impact on the draft. just one of many reasons he cannot be trusted.

I think he has a lot of things to clean up, but there's a lot to like about his game so far.
I'm not going to nitpick about how much he does/doesn't run, but one thing I noticed is that, even in his highlight plays, his mechanics can look downright terrible. Little hops in mid-throw, throwing across his body, etc.
That said, he looks like he belongs out there and knows what he's doing. As sad as it is, that's an improvement and something to build upon.

Your post was fine. I enjoyed it.
I want people to talk about the game and even the season. I don't care if it is not in the Good, Bad, Ugly format. YTown apologized earlier for not doing that, but I thought his post was excellent. I disagree w/him about some of the qbs, but who cares, it's all opinion.
I just don't like stupid nonsense where people try to draw attention to themselves rather than just talk about the game/team.

Forgot this:
Props to Barnidge for his franchise record-setting TD catch for tight ends.
That's good, right?

I was wrong, he tied Ozzie's record yesterday, didn't break it. I hope he does, though.

Maybe it is annoying because he has never actually be caught doing any drugs? Or for that matter really doing anything all that wrong at all?

The picture was certainly suspicious, but was he ever caught or tested positive?

If he can be a good QB and takes us to the Super Bowl, I don't care what he does in his spare time. Kid can play football.

Actually, we don't know if he has ever been caught. 1st positive test is kept confidential and only comes to light after the 2nd offense. So maybe he has, maybe he hasn't. At this point WE don't know.

If you're not in the program -- IIRC -- then you only get tested for everything at the beginning of every TC. Every other test is for PEDs.

I believe you are correct, which is why you have to be a complete moron to get caught. Jester was suggesting Johnny may be in the program, which I do not believe he is based on the incident mentioned in my post.

The good for me was being happy for the first drive...Johnny Football getting better I think and I really hope whatever happens at the end of the year the kid still gets his chance to play next year/and he stays out of any real trouble. The bad...had the game split screened on my TV with the Cavs game and found myself more engaged with the Cavs then the Browns first time thats happened in my 50 plus years watching the Browns...me wanting to watch someone/anything else during the Browns game that is. The ugly hmm...My level of apathy with the Browns has surpassed the level I had last season and it was bad last year. Also it was a little heart wrenching when talking to my adult sons about the game and they just say Dad why do you waste your time watching them... And realize my oldest boy is 25 the youngest is 23 and they havent witnessed winning football from there hometown team for almost every year of their lives. That was ugly and depressing. I guess those are my good bad and the ugly for me. I didn't watch the game, but I appreciate the info on the thread. Can anyone elaborate a little more about the 1st drive? It seemed like at least the early part of the season Flip was pretty consistent in scripting our opening drives. Why the drop off on subsequent ones??? I wonder if its a combination sometimes of the coaches outsmarting themselves and not quite being fully confident in the new O scheme. It's almost like they pull back because they don't want to expose too much of their playbook to the opposing team and future opponents. By and large when we are successful at something or throwing to an area of the field we just don't ever seem to ride that pony as far as it'll take us. I think one of the best games Flip called throughout was the first Raven's game... the play calling seemed fluid and we really took it to them. Bademosi... *sigh* CB is definitely NOT the position to play him. Like you guys pointed out, his mechanics over all just aren't very good to be a CB... but I think he would probably transition better as a SS? On kickoffs the guy has a knack for fighting through coverage and getting to the ball. Maybe he replaces Whitner eventually?? Gipson.. pretty disappointing to read the comments about him mailing it in. I know people were upset about the FO not offering him a better deal last off season, but whether they knew something ahead of time or not, it would be very difficult to justify that contract based on what we've gotten out of him this year. I know the injury kept him out a bit, but when he has played he really hasn't been much of a factor, at least not to the point you actually hear his number called. It's super disappointing to read that it appears he's mailed it in because every DC he's played under has raved about him. WR's... 5 drops is a lot. I don't think our WR's are all that bad. What they are desperately missing though is a game breaker. If the Gordon of his amazing year was on the field this year, our WR corp would be easily Top 5 IMO. Glad to hear JM looked pretty solid again even if the numbers aren't there. Thanks for the info Dawgs!

--First drive: I don't remember the exact plays, but we came out w/energy. We were very crisp and were playing w/a good tempo. Hit a variety of shorter throws. Mixed in the run effectively. Think we had one or two penalties, but overcame them. JM had really good control. Looked a lot like R. Wilson out there.
--I know you like Farmer and won't want to hear this, but his treatment of guys like Gipson is a real downer for the player and the team. He goes out and gives big money to guys like McCown [who was not highly regarded at the time] and Bowe and then plays hardball w/a Pro Bowl player who has been a model citizen and teammate. Also, we really don't know if he is mailing it in. He could be playing w/a shoulder injury which would explain two of his tackles. I get the feeling that people will excuse Joe Haden for anything, yet want to crucify guys like Gipson and Whitner.
--I think Bademosi should be a special teams guy.....exclusively.
--We need a lot of help at the WR position. It has not been adequately addressed. I like smaller, quicker WRs. You need 1 or 2 of them on your team. However, the entire corps cannot consist of these types of WRs.
--Yeah, it was good to see JM play well. I think the best thing I can say about him is that he looks like he belongs. After his first start last year, I thought he looked as far away from being an NFL qb as one could possibly be. That might have been the worst performance I have ever seen. This Johnny and that Johnny are two different Johnnys.

The fact that you're trying to compare Gipson's and Haden's situation this year is absolutely laughable.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

No, they unsealed documents that had witnesses stating that Bonds used performance enhancing drugs. I've never heard any witnesses on record in a court of law state he used drugs. Totally different.

I'm sure a lot of players in the NFL did stupid crap in HS and college and never got caught... Doesn't change the fact that calling him "cocaine cowboy" over and over again is immature and obnoxious as hell.

It isn't for a lack of trying, but in order for this defense to be effective, CB must become a position of strength. I like seeing Grimes improve each week. Can his game get strong enough? Ifo, can he play in the NFL? Browns need someone taking Haden's position when hurt. Skrine was a good player, but this defensive scheme needs better. Gilbert not playing to expectation crippling. Pass rush should improve as the secondary improves. Right now QBs need three seconds to throw a 5-10 yard pass. No defense can apply enough pressure at that rate. CBs playing so far off receivers make them useless against the run. With the secondary struggling, LBs playing back helping in pass defense. All contributing toward weakening the run defense.

Issue is other parts not experience enough to overcome. Defense has many young players developing in a complex scheme. It is the painful process building young, but once built it is very effective. Simplifying is always the easy solution, but it also means it makes easier on the opposition. Usually "simple" works when talent is adequate. Holmgren led the charge on this principal.

To me, and I'm no expert, this defensive scheme sucks. The biggest gripe I have is not using players to their strengths - great coaches adjust their philosophies to what they have; Belechick is a mastermind at this. Coaches that do not have the imagination to modify their schemes are what we always seem to end up with. We always seem to end up with the square peg round hole syndrome.

Since the disaster of 2008 we have Always seemed to end up with coaches here 2 years. How can you build a great or even good D that way.
I know our Run D has improved the last 3 or 4 games.
They seemed to be letting the kids play more and more and I like the enthusiasm and let em loose attitude.
Its still not good but also has been the major disappointment. THAT is the key. They can talk about the air game all they want. I look around at the playoff teams and super bowl contenders. DEFENSE!!!
That is our litmus test.
1. Got to be able to apply good and consistent Pressure with 4 FOUR!!! This way when you add a 5th its devistating to the O!!!
2. Got to have a dominant run stop so that we can create obvious passing downs!
Talent and better execution of the system...better coaching!
The O...I think we are there and no we don't have a bevy of super stars out there. We got a good franchise QB prospect and a good Bridge QB...nothing close to great. Running getting close to the surface I think Manziel takes some of the D game plan away from the run!
OL is good enough to grow into one of the best.
Oooops just looked at the thread title as I was responding to posts sorry Vers. Still dawgs trust me - you/we/us want to get out this depression of a football team. DEFENSE! DEFENSE!! DEFENSE!!! It will be the sign of turning things around... jmho
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

Johnny will never be a first in first out kind of guy. He is the guy that shows up late, falls asleep in film study and leaves early to go party. And you all love him for that. It's no fun having a QB that actually CARES about the game. It's much more fun having a QB that would rather go out drinking than start. A guy that HAS to have his picture trending on social media. If it's not, he's not happy. Proof? He was handed the job for the last 6 games. A BIG event in the life of a young QB. A chance to prove he IS the future of the franchise. They told him ONE thing. DON'T embarrass us. How f...ing HARD is THAT? He could have partied every second without reprisal. All he had to do was be low key. Party at home. That wouldn't be Johnny though. He HAS to be the center of attention. It's his nature. That will never change. So if we're going to bet the entire franchise on Johnny, that will be part of it. That is IF he can play the game. Some of you seem to thing that's already proven. It's not. We have NO idea HOW he will play in BAD WEATHER for instance. We've had remarkable weather so far. Every year won't be like this. Last year we had snow in October. So until I see Johnny play when it's 18 deg. with the wind whipping in off the lake? He's still an unknown. Until I see him stand in the pocket all game long and play at a high level? He's an unknown. A question. Why? because once a guy like Johnny loses his mobility what does he have? Ask RG3.
So IF he can actually play and IF he can stay healthy and IF he doesn't do something incredibly stupid off the field.... MAYBE he's the answer.

This isn't a defense designed to allow you to cover for weaknesses, it is an aggressive scheme designed to get after an offense, but to do so it really kinda puts a premium on having top talent in most every position group, but especially the secondary & up the middle (DT/NT & MLB/ILB).
If you take that and then realize that we're weak as wet snot in the secondary, don't have much at MLB/ILB and have been soft at the Nose, while also not having DE's & OLB's that can contain well, and it's no wonder we have what we have.
With improved talent, the defense can definitely shine --- you just need a lot of talent. It's high risk, high reward.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
