If his mess of technique and and mechanics were a one game problem, I have more optimism. Hes been in the NFL 2 years and has yet to display proper footwork.

To be fair, he basically missed this entire off-season because he was in rehab.

I would say that this feeling is overblown.
Beyond the fact posted by cfrs below your post about him missing the offseason, there is the fact that he had more important things to worry about in terms of reading defenses & running our offense. These are skills he is still polishing, and he is still learning how to be a professional.

The important thing that can be readily seen with him is that he continues to show readily visible progress. He's starting to Walk the Walk; as long as he keeps this up, he shouldn't have any trouble working out kinks in footwork. He won't ever be perfect 100% of the time when things break down, but he will get better. He just has to create new muscle memories.

He did look pretty good against the 49ers. I'll give you that one albeit against pretty poor competition. He got a bunch of garbage stats in the second half against Pittsburgh and looked pretty poor last week against the Seahawks. 19-of-32 for 161 yards, an interception and a 69.9 passer rating.

This week he didn't have a bad day. He had a horrible day. PFF says it was their 3rd lowest passer grade in history.

But don't let those vultures get you down. Let's get back to the Kool-Aid rah rah parade where he is definitely a week one starter next year and looks just like Russel Wilson and Drew Brees combined.

It's a black cherry 4 loko.

Four Loko is just about the worst thing a person can put in their body. I'd probably rather have him doing cocaine.

It's a premium Malt Liquor. Doesn't sound like a good choice of beverage to me, in fact, sounds dangerous as hell, but comparing it to Cocaine might be going a bit far...

I don't see that,, But for sure, he didn't bring up his cold that I read or saw! So he's not using it as an excuse.

I have never heard him make excuses for himself. He he went to post game interview and stood up there and took all the arrows, for what it's worth that says alot about character.

He did indeed. I was mostly talking about people on here making excuses.

If that's how Manziel plays when he has a cold, then how will he play when he has an actual injury?

We'll probably find out when he's playing for Dallas and the 4th round'r we picked up was released and out of football already.

Gannon built a strawman and then condemned him. Sounds like a message board poster instead of a reliable announcer.

In the first game of his sophomore season, Manziel scored a touchdown and got a penalty for taunting the disapproving crowd. As he came to the sideline, his coach stepped onto the field to scold him, and Johnny walked right past his coach as if he wasn't there. I decided in that moment that I didn't want JFF on my team. Needless to say, when we drafted him, I was not a happy camper. That said, as soon as he became a Brown, I started rooting for him. Not the all out "Johnny is our savior" rooting, but pulling for him to mature, learn to play the NFL game, and be a reliable starting QB for my team.

I knew it would take time, and I was all in on having him serve as backup, red-shirt if you will. When he entered rehab in the off-season, I understood that meant resetting that red-shirt year. I was fine with the McCown signing (never expecting the performance we got from him) to give Johnny more time to adjust, mature, and learn.

Now it seems we are starting to see the fruits of that patience. Johnny still has more maturing, and learning to do, but he has earned the respect of his teammates, his coaches, and grudgingly, me. I understand drafting another QB. There are no guarantees he won't yet self-destruct off the field. In yesterday's game, he got pancaked on one of his scrambles down the sideline, so there is a real risk of injury. But I don't think we should do so with the idea that Johnny needs to be replaced.

to be honest i'd rather just get rid of him but I seriously doubt we have any better options. If we had the #1 pick it would be a hell of alot easier to get a new coach and GM because then he could pick whatever QB he wants for our future.

I never liked Gannon... It took him 11-12 years to do anything in the league..

Yeah he had 3-4 good years out of 16 where he got his PB and MVP honors, But to diss Johnny when JM's just starting out and learning, Gannon better not look in the mirror, he was nothing but a snot nosed punk his early years in the league.

I am going to go out on a limb here ....and me saying this probably means that anything but will happen ....... but I think that we keep Pettine, and our QB depth chart will be Manziel, Davis, and McCown. McCown will be that veteran presence, and a pseudo coach/sounding board for Manziel.

Another Johnny Manziel video surfaces, but Browns coach Mike Pettine withholds judgment

Nate Davis, USA TODAY Sports 9:24 p.m. EST December 28, 2015

Mike Pettine might only have one week left as head coach of the Cleveland Browns, but it appears he could have one more big decision to make regarding Johnny Manziel.

Yet another video of Manziel partying — this time on Christmas Eve — is making the rounds. The second-year quarterback, who spent much of the offseason in rehab for an undisclosed reason, has a beverage in his hand but isn't seen imbibing.

Pettine said in a conference call Monday that he was aware of the video but hadn't seen it and wasn't prepared to rule on Manziel's status as the team's starter for the regular-season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

“Anytime there’s something with our players that casts them potentially in a bad light, whether it’s Johnny or any of our other guys, it’s certainly a concern," said Pettine. "I’m sure I’ll see it and have a discussion with him about it. These circumstances are different from the incident that occurred before, but I’m just not going to go into a ton of detail with it until I get a little bit more information about it. It’s something that I’m sure privately we’ll discuss, if it needs to be discussed.”

The coach also served up plenty of praise for Manziel, who has won just two of six starts this season but shown marked improvement in his play.

"If you go back to where he was essentially a year ago to now, he has covered a lot of ground personally," said Pettine. "We know there has been a setback or two there, but he has covered so much ground professionally, and it shows up in the results.

"He has bought into what we are doing. Professionally, he has been outstanding for us this year. That is why when you talk to our players in the locker room, they respect him because they are with him every day. They see it. They see his preparation. They see him in the huddle and the night and day difference calling plays, confidence, knowing what to do, knowing where to go with the ball, and they see how competitive he is, how much he cares."

Pettine, who claimed not to know if he'll be retained on the heels of a 3-12 season despite weekly meetings with owner Jimmy Haslam, didn't seem inclined to bench Manziel for the second time this year.

“Again, it falls back into not micromanaging personal lives," said Pettine. "It is very public, unfortunately. The thing that is disappointing is how public it becomes.

"We are going to sit down with (all players) before they get out of here and see where they are personally and professionally, and certainly, Johnny will be no exception.”

I heard the best defense for Johnny this morning on the radio lol. a caller said if Johnny was black and a video surfaced of him rapping, dancing and drinking a malt, the media would be afraid to say anything but since he is white and privileged he is fair game and the sharks are in a feeding frenzy.

Most everyone knows I'm not really, whatsoever, a JF supporter but - I just watched this new video and even my first initial thought was "really, they starting up a fuss over that?"

I guess the fact he's entered rehab and is still drinking is what alarms everyone. I'm beginning really to believe the kid didn't go to rehab for alcohol.

I don't buy at "black" excuse.

The media CRUCIFIED Winston, and crucified Tampa for taking him.

But unlike Johnny, guess what Winston has done since being in the league: not a damn thing. Not one off the field issue with him at all.

Hell, cam newton can't catch a break. He still gets so much hate for doing absolutely nothing wrong.

I'm a Manziel supporter, but that excuse stunk.

Mike Pettine says of Johnny Manziel Christmas video: 'It's certainly a concern'

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ss...art_river_index

From the article:

Again, for most 23-year-olds, drinking a Four Loko on Christmas Eve is no big deal. But Manziel spent 73 days in an addiction treatment center in the offseason, and his high school coach and friend Julius Scott told USA Today Sports that he's not supposed to be drinking.

As a recovering drug addict it's disheartening to me to see him do this again. If he never went to rehab, it wouldn't be a big deal. But he shouldn't be drinking - period. He is still pretty young (at least to me!) and you think differently when you are.

They say the only thing worse than an alcoholic is an alcoholic with money.

And here we have Johnny Manziel.

By posting another video I almost wonder if he isn't consciously - or even subconsciously - taunting Pettine? Perhaps Manziel wants out of Cleveland and wants to play for the Cowboys, or just another team? I couldn't blame him one bit.

Every time he does something like this it's another rung down the ladder in what I think of him. I really think he has something special and could develop into a really good QB, but he needs to quit drinking before things go bad.

Regardless.... I hope they let him play against Pittsburgh, as I am really looking forward to seeing him play against them.

I'm hoping Johnny was just doing this as a spoof to get some attention while drinking something non alcoholic, simply playing with the media.

But if JM is going home to drink and get drunk, the Browns better plan on drafting a QB in the first round.

Cleveland Browns great Jim Brown defends Johnny Manziel
By James Parziale
Dec 29, 2015 at 2:23p ET

Johnny Manziel's off-field exploits have been reported on, re-reported on, then talked about some more. Cleveland Browns legend Jim Brown on Tuesday came out in support of Manziel, who is trying to cement his place as the Browns starter going into next season.

"Well he's a young man...the things that have been reported on him are things that he can clean up and will clean up," Brown said on 'The Herd' on Tuesday.

When Brown saw Manziel recently, he passed along this message: "Hey Johnny, I'm for you man...and I'm for him because I think has a talent."

But are his off-field antics and penchant for partying a distraction?

VIDEOS: IN THEIR OWN WORDS...

Get unique, first-person perspectives from NFL players in our PROcast videos.

"I don't know a player that don't like to party," Brown added.

Brown did say that "the publicity is something he needs to get used to," especially playing the quarterback position in the NFL, but he really believes that a dual-threat like Manziel can be special. And the Browns (3-12), who haven't been to the playoffs since 2002, can really use some special.

"The talent is there," Brown said. "The coaching can really bring it out."

Basically... the fans and players are sick of the media going click bait crazy.

Johnny can't even drink safe in his own home without the media going nutz over it.

I don't think it's anything to be concerned over, at least not over and above the fact that I think he probably shouldn't be drinking at all.

I would question his choice of associates though if this sort of thing is going to continue to get out. I've seen the case made 100x's on this board that other players party and it's not a big deal and that's true but most of them do it in controlled environments and it appears that, that is what Manziel was doing. I'm glad he seems to be learning, but it looks like he still needs to work on that guest list...

Just answer me this...why the hell does Johnny post..or allow his party video to be posted on the internet?

He can't be that dumb, can he?

Be smart, go home have yourself a good time and keep it private....or be dumb and allow yourself to become another negative.

...is too much to ask Johnny to be smart when he goes home?

mourg...that is bunch of crap and you know it..trying to play the "if he was black" card.

If there were videos of Teddy Bridgewater, you think they would not become an interesting story for the media?
