Any Chameleon owners around here? I've been toying with the Idea of owning one for awhile now, but i've really gotten into researching it the past few days. So i was wondering if there were any experienced people around in this area that i could talk to about ownership. Thanks!

If you want a pet reptile, move to Florida and capture a lizard for free!

I had a few of them when I was a kid. One got away and a month later it crawled up my dad's arm on the couch. It had turned itself into the color of the drapes. My mother was none too happy and I wasn't allowed to have them anymore.

Look at the window ... where that stealth jet from the local air force base is. Go straight down, and it's right there on the carpet.

is this your first reptile? If so I dont recommend a chamy. Bearded Dragons are a lot easier to care for and can be held more often, as chamaleons tend to get ulcers from being held to often. If you do get one what species are you looking at? Ive had a panther and a Jacksons. A jackson is the one with the horns. You might also want to look into geckos. Just stay away from Tokay geckos, unless you buy a really thick pair of gloves. They can be a bit nippy. If you have any other questions I will help out the best I can.

You beat me to it 1488. I've heard that cham's are a bit fragile and not a very good starter lizard.

I used to own a Bearded Dragon, very cool and nice and easy to look after. Had an iguana for awhile also.

I had one of these also, had major trouble with it and it died in the end. Beautiful lizard but so agressive it was off the planet. Pretty cool bark on it too man, Tokays' are Browns fans!

Sweet thanks! No i have never owned herps before, but ive always like chameleons. I'm not really interested in owning one for companionship, my intentions are because they are truly magnificent animals. I have, on the other hand, owned many mammals ranging from hedgehogs to dogs so im no stranger to animal care. Granted mammals have that whole fancy pants endothermy thing going on.

I do know how fragile they are. They dont survive stress very well for sure. I've done a bit of research on them and i was looking at the jackson's and rudis chameleons due to their smaller size. I just dont have a lot of room for a bigger panther or veiled at the moment.

I still say starter lizard is the way to go, you can always get a cham as well as the dragon. Bottom line is, if you get one chances are you'll get another.

You want to do some proper research too, talk to the pet shop owner or breeder for advice, get on to some online forums with experienced cham owners too and a specialist chameleon book won't hurt. Make sure the set up is right as far as vivarium and conditions go, correct temperatures etc. It'll probably need supplements to get the necessary vitamins also, (you dust your crickets with it before feeding.)

Man i could watch a chameleon feed all day.
