You are the second person to make that claim. I think many of us wanted Farmer gone, but wanted to give Pet and his staff more time. The guys who wanted Pet fired are not commenting.
why does everybody cling on to crappy coaches on this board?
romeo, mangini, chud(even though i liked him) shurmur, pettine, all trash.
and you want to give o'neil more time, as well?
i thought you said you were jumping ship? why haven't you left already?
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I was a loyalist too. Took pride in it. But I've come to this realization: there is nothing here that deserves my loyalty. No product. No plan. No continuity. No leadership. No hope. The team that earned my loyalty was stolen from me in 1995, and this... thing has squandered it. Totally.
What I do know: Tonight, I feel really old. And really tired. And really used. And really- sad.
The New Browns finally did it: they killed a lifelong fan's fanaticism. A team that can do that to someone like me... dosen't deserve me.
Damn Clem, damn. Is it possible that I could hire you, on occasion, to speak for me in those times when I am unable, no matter how hard I try, to put into words the way I feel when I feel so bad the words won't come?
Since I was 8 years old the Browns have had my entire heart and soul. Season by season I lived and died with the fate of the team and never once regretted my devotion, never once, until now.
Watching that game yesterday was like being tied down and forced to watch a football team have their way with my wife, again. Truth is, I haven't had a wife for 15 years. Still, I couldn't feel lower than I do today.
There is no set way the key is the GM and HC have to be joined at the hip and on the same page. Does it really matter who picks who?
Palmer and Shurmur were the two GM hired HC.
Actually now that Pettine has this experience under his belt He probably would make a good hire from scratch again this time with experience he can pick his Personnel guy...well that is up to another team to reap maybe...not us.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
Evidently not... you going to blame me for it? They were suppose to be...and I said all along (missed by you) if they are not on the same page at least one has to go.

Verse. You are not going to get a GM with Pettine remaining as coach.
You hire the GM. Then the GM hires the coach.
Browns have not figured that out either.
Mangini, Pettine are examples why that does not work.
Every way works if the right people are hired. We have tried both ways (Savage/Crennel, Heckert/Shurmur).
Seattle hired Carroll before Schneider.
I agree you simply need the three owner, GM, and HC working together. Otherwise, Haslam is wasting time and money. Banner's advice, based on his Philly experience, get a solid HC and support.
“I would like to thank Dee and Jimmy Haslam for the opportunity they granted me to lead the Cleveland Browns as head coach for the past two seasons. Although I wish I could have brought more wins to the franchise for the passionate fans of this great city, I will have many fond memories to cherish from my time in Cleveland. I also want to thank all the players that I’ve been able to coach in my time here. I’m grateful for the effort they put forth, their willingness to take coaching and their overall dedication to the foundation we built. Additionally, it is very important for me to thank the coaching staff for all their hard work. I appreciate all the sacrifices that were made by their families while their husbands and fathers were enduring the long hours that are the norm for NFL coaches. Lastly and just as importantly, I want to thank the fans of the Cleveland Browns. I appreciated all the support, you deserve a winner and I wish that for you in the near future.”
In the NFL, coaches are fired for losing too many games.
I cannot imagine any coach not playing any player who could help his team win to "spite" the GM.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

Maybe spite wasn't the right word. But I think it was clear that Pettine wasn't playing players that Farmer wanted to play and vice versa. Both had their own reasons behind each of those motivations.
I don't want in your guys stuff, and don't mean to intrude, but Rueter, Adkins, and others have alluded to Pettine doing this with Bowe, Mannziel, and others. I think Farmer started the war with text gate, but both acted unprofessionally and needed canned if any of the stuff coming out the past few weeks is true.
It also makes since why they put a people person lawyer as the head of ops........although that's just stupid anyway you slice it.
Against logic, the most effective armor is willful ignorance.

sorry but i have seen the players your talking about on the field. there is a reason they were not playing...
being a browns fan is like taking your dog to vet every week to be put down...
Mary Kay Cabot ‏@MaryKayCabot 2h2 hours ago Ohio, USA #Browns Justin Gilbert admitted he "missed a ton of meetings last year." Why? "hard sleeper". nothing deeper than that? "no"
We've also read the junk Bowe said and watched his timidness on the field.
I can't believe people wanna say that Pet is spiting Farmer.
No clue.....only saying what those guys were saying. I was listening to Rueter on 92.3 the fan today (I'm on vacation), and he alluded to the constant bickering, finger pointing, and middle finger salutes between the two as the reasoning behind the current structure.
I'm not saying they are right, but what crfs is saying has been reported by others. The validity of it is up to the individual. I will say that Rueter and Adkins are the only two I trust when it comes to Browns info...but that's me.

This video has nothing to do with the thread, but at least it didn't happen to one of our players... plus I thought it was funny and we could all use a little lol before our blood pressure gets too high...

and no way will ever work if you get the wrong people.

True, but how do you know you got the wrong people? By two years worth of bad win/loss records? So I don't believe that. Honestly.
I don't think anyone can judge if a coach can be successful after only two years. Had we given any of them time we may have been successfully competitive long before now. Look at the bengals. We laughed at them for years. They kept Lewis all those years. Still we laughed. Now they have been in the playoffs for several years in a row and we're still languishing while we look for the next two-year-wonder, and we'll have several more years of the same.
Yup... it's easy for someone on the outside to say, but the reality is that no coach is going to do that if a player is able to help him win. The coach is going to do what helps him win because that is his bottom-line.
On the flip side, however, I can definitely see a GM getting his panties in a bunch over a coach not playing a guy he signed - because that makes the GM look bad.
I would say that a guy like Bowe could very well have caused some serious in-fighting, but I sincerely doubt any of that fighting would be over guys that could have helped us win games.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

There's no way to know. Sometimes you simply get lucky and end up with the right people. Often times, you'll have to fail a LOT before you really have a strong idea of what to look for.
And, for the record, I completely agree with your stance that at some point, we simply MUST stick it out through difficult years. Ownership will have to actually grow a pair and decide to take the stance that HE is going to make it work.

No it isn't Willie and you know it. The validity of it is if it's true. If we don't know for sure it's true then it's not valid. It's not up to the individual whether or not it's true.
In this freaking internet/information age there is so much thrown out there that makes individuals think, "Yeah, there could be something to that", even if it's totally made up by someone seeking attention.
