A hyper competitive guy might relish this chance to be the guy that does the impossible.

Think about it, if you succeed here, you will be considered one of the best ever. If you fail, it's like a badge of honor.

Haslam isn't doing anything any other owner wouldn't do to try and find the right mix of people to run the team.

Not convinced he can do it, but I am convinced that he's trying his best. FWIW

I hear you, but a practical guy would realize it's hard to succeed when you have so many people involved in each football decision.

It's not an attractive job, especially when you add Haslam's quick trigger finger.

We'll see who they bring in. I will admit it if I am wrong.

Patrcia's story is very impressive, but I am always skeptical of Belichick's assistants. Almost all of them have failed (Weis, Crennel, Mangini, McDaniels, etc).

So is that a qualification? For You... That doesn't always mean anything.. If you read the story, it's pretty impressive. He's worked both sides of the ball and relates well with everyone... I'm impressed. I've always wanted someone established to watch us hire someone I've never heard of and this time I really think I want this guy.. And he's analytic

I wasn't being smart! I've never heard of the guy ... I read the article. That's all I know but after reading it. I just have a good feeling

Well, he did have Kirk Ferentz and Nick Saban as coordinators when he was coaching the Browns. Saban turned out ok. smirk

Time will tell.

Who would you want? Forget the details of the structure or haslam for a moment.

Who would you want as the GM and HC.

Thanks for the read - I love to be educated. About Wolfe...we already announced that we are hiring the HC first and then the GM with the HC on the committee. I don't think that is the position that Wolfe wants to break away from his Packers with.

You never know but I doubt it. So who will be the HC? That is the question.

As anyone on this board already knows we've tried and failed so many times. I'm ready to give any new ideas a shot as well as any new HC and GM. I've been a fan for nearly 50 years I love the Browns and will get behind the new HC and GM 100%. We've failed so many times you would think it's finally time we hit on something. Law of averages?

We could benefit from the Patriots' ways. What a hire! One side or the other has to go first, and the stupid defensive "scheme" decisions achieved little, seldom enough to win.

Structure and organization get you to game time. Coaches and talent get you to wins. This defense has more upside IMO than the offense if played aggressively. This would be a big hire IMO.

It was always a stretch, but I wanted Saban all along.

I feel/felt like if we couldn't get Saban, then we should have just kept Pet. Overhauling the roster once again is depressing me.

As to what's left.........I don't know. I think the best candidate out there is Mike Shannahan, but given I don't think there is anyway that is going to happen after what happened w/his son.

I don't know......I just don't see this working. As always, I hope I am wrong and all the positive posters are correct.

This is a great read. It gives me hope that JH is serious about fixing this thing from the top down rather than another haphazard assembly of "smart guys".

My concern is that "Jed" will have to pull this off faster than "The Wolf" in Pulp Fiction or there will be no candidates left. Maybe this is Jimmy facing the harsh reality that this is where we're at... there are no chances of a 3 year plan, maybe a 5 is pushing it. It's a harsh reality for fans as well.

I don't see this process taking place and the Browns ending up with a qualified GM and big name coaching candidate. More like a "whaaat" and a "wtf!"... if it all pans out (and there are any fans left), I guess it's all good in the end. What have we got to lose lol?

I'd agree I think that the DEF has the edge in terms of upside, but I also think the only thing our OFF is missing (aside from a franchise QB) is a legit game breaker... that WR or RB who is a threat to take it to the house from anywhere on the field.

I like Jackson and Marrone because both have had previous experience. I'm sick of rookie HCs. Both had some measure of success elsewhere (.500 or better) and hopefully they learned. Gase scares me because he's never done it before.

I'd like to see Hue, or Coughlin if they can convince him to come to this train wreck. If they go with Gase I would hope they put a smart defensive guy on staff to take care of the defense and Gase could help more with the offense.

This is what they do for their business...I am sure they have an extended file on all coaching candidates for different levels of football. Quick and fast is ok as long as they have the proper information set up.

Making a list and checking it twice will not take a year.

Jackson also looks considerably less crazy over the Carson Palmer trade now, too.

That trade will always be crazy. So will the way he acted after Al Davis died.

I don't see how we hire him with this analytical direction we are going. I think it will be Chip Kelly or Matt Patricia.

I gotta say, I'm really interested in how this coaching search and signing develops. Last time, we really seemed to be misfiring in our coaching interviews and the search dragged on and stalled until Pettine was hired.

It's early now, but we seem to be lining up some excellent interviews.

He was on a segment on ESPN, and he said roughly the same things.

Then he also added, rather sheepishly, that he is still being paid by the Browns. (Implying that he didn't say everything he wanted to because of that fact)
