you can also save millions of lives by:

banning cigarettes and stopping the sale of
banning fast food places and fatty foods,
and banning prescription drugs, making all patients come in daily for their drugs to prevent OD.

^ all of those, BTW, leads to the top killers of americans. obesity, cancer, heart disease, etc.

but ya know, those pesky things called rights and all.

Don't forget schools. Schools give people ideas about killing people, especially when teaching history.

i see you missed the point, as well as the person who liked your post.

the point is that like everything else, abortion is legal.

so if you wanna ban something thats legal because it kills people, in your perspective, then everything else i listed, going by YOUR logic, must be banned as well, because it's the top killers of americans.

it's legal, so are cars, trucks, etc. and i don't have a problem with it.

but it's clear, using YOUR logic, that you do have a problem with it being legal.

None of those things you listed is a right though....privilege are more like it...or am I just being picky with the verbiage?

My sons graduated the last one in 10' in their graduation ceremony they was not allowed to say the word God at the few seconds accepting their diploma at the mic...Valedictorian speech wasnt allowed to either.

Then they booted families out of the Nutter Center...yes thats the name of where they held the graduation ceremony...for cheering and clapping when their childs name was called to accept their diploma...Security actually removed family for cheering their kids on for Graduating notallthere

My youngest was damn lucky to graduate...so I acted like an ass cheered him to the podium took a picture and just told security...yeah yeah I'm leaving...hell a couple of my boys teachers cheered to and you shouldve saw the look they received from the Principal it made me laugh.

I didnt know if they cheered for him graduating or was it thank God that kid is gone and dont have to deal with his craziness any longer willynilly

and at what point do you let people live their own lives and make their own decisions - for better or worse... or are you the self-appointed caretaker for everyone, monitoring their every move so that they don't hurt themselves?

p.s. Make sure you add all forms of alcohol to this list, it kills more than all of the above combined every year.

also - are you freaking kidding me with this one?

Folks want to complain about how unjust it is to require people to go get an ID in order to vote, but you want everyone, everywhere to travel to get their medications, which for some people would be multiple trips per day.

Again - at what point do you say "enough is enough" and accept that everyone is responsible for themselves and that it isn't the goverment's, nor society's, job to "protect" the welfare of everyone.

It might not be, but you need to be aware that I want to clarify this because there's a rabid pack of posters ready to pounce at word play whenever I post.

I didn't know eating fast food was a privilege.

California school district doubles down on conceal carry policy, despite new state law

Weeks after Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill barring concealed weapons on K-12 school grounds, one district in Northern California is reaffirming its policy to allow the practice, and the local police chief agrees.

The Anderson Union High School District will continue to allow licensed employees to carry concealed weapons on school campuses, with officials saying it will keep students and faculty safe.

“It is definitely a pro to have people armed, responsible people armed who have been vetted and can actually provide another layer of protection for the kids,” Anderson Police Chief Mike Johnson told KRCR-TV.

Anderson is located in the northern California county of Shasta, about 200 miles north of San Francisco.

The old law allowed school employees to carry if they had written permission from the district or a concealed carry permit, but the new law, Senate Bill 707, only allows exceptions for peace officers, both retired and active. The bill essentially creates a state-mandated local program, the description of the new law said.

School Superintendant Tim Azevedo could not be reached to clarify whether the district believes it is defying the new state law by keeping the status quo.

However, Alan Gottlieb, founder and executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, said the district is within its rights.

“The intent of the new law is obviously to discourage teachers from having firearms to protect themselves and their students," Gottlieb said. "But the law allows the school districts locally to make these decisions on their own. And maybe this new law will help convince school districts that they actually should make this decision on their own.”

Gottlieb said he thinks this school district policy is “fantastic” and hope that other districts in California and school districts throughout the nation follow suit, to help put an end to victim disarmament zones.

“But to make it really work, the policy needs to be publicized, so that bad actors know they are more at risk by trying to hurt our children at these facilities,” Gottlieb said.

Evidence shows concealed carry policies protect campuses from would-be attackers, said John Lott, founder of the Crime Prevention Research Center.

“Even just a few people or even a couple who might be armed at a school can make a big difference in terms of whether or not terrorist types attack there,” Lott said. “It is amazing how these killers talk explicitly about picking targets where they know victims cannot go and defend themselves. … where people are not armed and not able to stop them.”

Groups like the Brady Campaign have opposed firearms on campuses across the nation, saying they create additional safety issues.

After watching Obama's town hall on guns, I now understand his failure to understand.

He made some very valid points. Perhaps the one that hit home with me was that just because we cannot keep guns out of the hands of violent criminals and solve/prevent every crime, doesn't mean we shouldn't try to solve/prevent as many as possible. Makes sense, I'll give him that. I'm in.

Where, I believe, the disconnect is is that Obama looks at guns through the very narrow lens of using them in the commision of crimes and gun violence.

Obama fails to balance that lens with the one of use of guns as a right for protection. He conveniently overlooks the right to bear arms because that is the only way it fits his narrative and executive order. He needs to take a look at guns through the lens of Americans using them as a form of protection.

Obviously, this is political in nature and timed accordingly. The only way he can support his stance is to focus on only one side of the issue.

I am in favor of keeping Americans safer....especially our children. But this order does little to accomplish that and keep guns out of the hands of thugs!

As much as I dislike Obama, he made some valid points tonight. It is most unfortunate he did most of the talking (the first 15 minutes) and limited the people from speaking. Those who did speak had great things to say!

everybody is a law abiding citizen...until all of a sudden, they aren't.

80 percent of all crimes involved with guns, the guns were obtained legally.

80 freaking percent.

So why go after law abiding citizens?

On a different note, either 61% or 63% of gun deaths are suicide. FWIW

One point of clarification on that statistic that I'd love to see answered:

Is the "legally obtained" in reference to just the original purchase, or in relation to the person committing the crime?

i.e. is the gun registered to the person that committed the crime with that gun?

I'm thinking it's a faulty statistic for this reason: It makes the assumption all gun crimes are solved and figured out. We know that isn't the case.

Therefore, that stat is null and void, and your question can't be answered.

Now, if the point was 80% of gun crimes that are solved were committed by the people that legally obtained said weapons, then perhaps it's true. Perhaps.

Like I said earlier, somewhere, 61%-63% of murders are suicide. Are those included in the stat swish?

And on another note, is Obama saying background checks don't work to prevent crime? FBI background checks don't prevent crime.

Yet we're also told to not be afraid of any of the Syrian immigrants because the FBI is doing background checks.

I don't get it.

I don't think it's downplaying violence.
I think it's attempting to properly quantify a claimed statistic that seems absurdly high. Nobody is saying that the violence is a good thing... we're just questioning how it is being categorized and presented.

I didn't see anyone downplaying violence. Perhaps I missed it.

I, myself, did, and do question the stat that 80% of gun crimes are committed by legally purchased guns, which makes the assumption the legal purchasers committed the crimes.

Perhaps you could clarify that stat?

First, it makes the assumption that all gun crimes are solved. We know that isn't true. Perhaps it's 80% of the solved gun crimes? Yes, I'm sure it is.

How many gun crimes are solved, traced, and proven? 20%? 50%? 80%?

Take Chicago, for example. How many gun crimes are solved there? Percentage wise.

Regardless, I myself didn't see anyone down play violence. Can you point out the poster or posters that did?

Chicago's issue rests in poverty, along with the overall solution to our gun problem, but the two schools of thought on poverty never agree.

All the Stats the left spews is almost always a lie/wrong. Just like the one they kept saying over and over 90% of gun owners want common sense gun laws...and even after it was found they cited some terrible poll that wasnt credible they kept on using it...then when people called them on their number...well then it went to most gun owners.

They can throw all the arbitrary numbers they want..most people arent believing them. And they do put suicide stats into their #'s to try and make it look worse...I'd think some of the over population people would be all for suicide...anytime anyone uses some crazy high # just look at the source of the number its usually skewed really bad.

And Rocket its much more then poverty...Ive come to accept a certain sect of our society is going to brake the law and are violent...and wont work if you made a law and provided a job for every man woman and child...Id be willing to bet there would still be violence crime and about the same % as there is now who will commit the violent acts.

We Americans are just violent...we love violence. But I'm not going to blame an inanimate object for the violence problems we have...its something else...poverty maybe is 1 cause...but not the end all be all. it goes deeper then that.

I'm so excited to know that these folks will never go crazy and there is no possibility that these guns could be stolen or used in an unfortunate manner. That's a fantastic guarantee!

Or that things like this won't happen:

RANCHO CUCAMONGA >> A 17-year-old Rancho Cucamonga boy is in critical condition after he accidentally shot himself in the head while playing with a gun he recently inherited, San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials said.

The shooting took place Monday night at Victoria Arbor Park at 7429 Arbor Lane, according to a sheriff’s report.

Deputies learned the teenager and some friends were at the park where the unidentified boy was playing with a handgun, and it accidentally went off, striking him in the head, officials said.

Paramedics flew the teenager to a hospital, where he is in critical condition.

The investigation indicated there was no evidence of foul play or a suicide attempt.
