May. 25 - 6:57 pm et

Browns C LeCharles Bentley (torn patellar tendon) will undergo another round of knee surgery on June 4, according to ESPN's Len Pasquarelli.
Cleveland's $36 million man from an offseason ago will spend his second straight year on injured reserve. The team is likely hopeful Bentley can help in 2008 but at this point his career certainly appears to be in jeopardy.

LeCharles Bentley-C- Browns May. 18 - 9:12 am et

LeCharles Bentley has surgery scheduled for June 5, but hasn't decided whether he'll undergo the procedure.
The center would miss the 2007 season if he goes under the knife again, as expected.

Time to move forward in developing a good cohesive OL without LCB. I hope he can resume his career sometime in the near future but, we need to focus on what we have to work with right now. Let's face it, when and if he comes back, he's going to be a little rusty and out of playing condition. Too bad, he would just be in his prime. So it will be Hank Fraley our starter at center and that's the way it will be until we need to find a better replacement for LCB. JMHO

im sure he will be able to make it back.... we have a lot of tough and motivated guys on this team when it comes to injuries... im more than sure that Bentley will be the same...

seeing Baxter come back from his knee injuries is motivation enough...

I've posted this on another forum, but I'm calling BS on this one until the team announces it or it starts showing up on the web. All Rotoworld does is find articles and put them up/link them. Since Pasta Belly hasn't been shouting his "break" of the story from the rooftops (there's no mention of it anywhere else), it's possible Len could've just been rehashing an old story (especially since the surgery is scheduled for the 5th, not 4th).

It's very possible, but rotoworld isn't even close to the most trustworthy site out there.

Being tough and motivated only plays a small role in the deal.

If your knee is mush, you aren't making it back.

If the cap situation was a little different and it was cheaper to cut him now, I suspect we would.

At this point we know we are on the hook for the cash.....now it is simply a matter of doing what makes the most sense for the Browns.

You are probably be right about that, but .......

Look, I hate saying this, but too many people have been talking about Bents playing this year, almost like the odds are good. Well.........let's just say the odds are not good. If you get your hopes up too high, the disappointment is greater. I just hope he can play in 2008.

I have my hopes up because of the organization. If they truly thought that Bentley were guaranteed to have the surgery, they would've said "It's a small possibility he avoids it, but in the end, we expect him to have the surgery". The fact that they've been "no comment" this whole time is either building our hopes up for nothing or there might actually be something behind this. Either that or it's just buildup for nothing, which is probably the case. It would be nice for some unexpected GOOD news for a change though.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but they are two WAY differant mass types ( 110 lb diff ), and LCB wont be back in a playing role.

Honestly, he made the right choice, from a humane stand-point, who wants the pain at his age? He has alot of life left, for his family and NOT football. It stinks that this has happened, but it is now time to hang up the " Bentley at Center' story.. IT'S OVER, Now it's time to move on, and get some-one in there to carry this team for years to come.. We cant have a turn-stlye at that position anymore.. Does Hank have a long time future there? We'll see soon enough.. I'm hoping something is up the sleeve's of the Front Office, because I'm sure they expected this to turn out like this..

We'll see soon enough..

I love the PD they keep reporting the same info over and over nothing has changed. He's supposed to have surgery but hasn't decided whether he will, this has been going on for months now.

So is Len just jumping the gun with speculation...just cause the surgery is scheduled???

I think its probably likely as our team Doctors recommended the surgery but Bentley's desire to play for us is looking for a rehab recommendation giving him a shot for 07.

So we wait for 08...we got Fraley signed for a while...Bentley's rehab and emergence in 08 will just be an added bonus at this point. Man this is a shame as it was another great Pickup by Savage as he gets IT regarding the OL!!!

One also has to acknowledge the chance Bentley doesn't have the desire to play anymore knowing his knee is a problem and is simply weighing whether he wants to undergo a surgery that might not do any real good.

Different people take the end of the line in different ways and are sometimes slow to let go.

I don't think the end of the line is quite yet defined with this 2nd surgery.

He is still young in age and soul as well as I think his heart is most definately in the right place to make a go at it.

I'm pretty sure he knows he signed a contract and wanted to be a big part of our resurgance. The outcome of the surgery and rehab is not yet defined one way or another. Letting go when the time comes will pretty much be a black and white thing. But I'm sure of what he has shown he will give everything he has into it and it has nothing to do with denial...but just where his heart is.

I don't think I have ever been as excited about a FA signing as I was about Bentley. I could not wait to see him in a Browns uniform on gameday. Signing Spielman when we first came back is up there as well.

Unfortunately, it is starting to look like I will never get to see either one in a Browns jersey on Gameday. Well, Spielman did play in one or two pre-season games before hurting his neck and retriring, but not a true game.

It's sad really. I don't believe in curses and all that jazz, but its really bad to see so many players get hurt around here.

I don't disagree....I am just pointing out a possibility. How probable it is is up to each reader and Bentley...who knows??

So your saying his plans where to " rob " Cleveland? He was injured while he was already here.. Sometimes life rolls you crazy combinations, and Cleveland and Bentley didn't pan out.. I'm sure he didn't try to get hurt, it's just unforunate that it happened they way it did.. But he is being paid, because he was under contract when this happened..

He's a good kid, alot of heart, and has the love for football. But IMO, he snapped his last football in the NFL..

Some of you guys are acting like this is some sort of " shop Job ". I'm all for these guys ( LCB & GB ) getting back together, but come-on, this is football, a sport that putts alot of crap on the body, day-in and day-out.. But I as a fan, want to see this team start winning games.. Would you bye a " totalled Out car",? We need guys on the field, healthy, and free of prone injury pasts.. We can't keep sitting here, hopeing that so-and-so getts better, when there is a 96% chance, that sometime in the near future, will be on the bike again.. Do you understand what I'm saying? WE CANT DO THIS YEAR_IN AND YEAR_ OUT, hoping that these guys will be a go come Sept. It has to stop..

But, then there is the " they are being paid ", and they have to try to get back on the field.. Thats why there has to be clauses in contract that pertain to injury, like a cut in pay.. We are paying alot of money, for guys that dont even get to dig cleats in the turf.. When that money can go to some-one, like Devin Holly type guys, that try to make a differance.. At least they are moving ahead in getting better playing the game, rather getting better to get off cruches..

I'm sorry folks, but I'm not ready to throw in the towel on one LCB just yet. Too me this 2nd surgery, if it happens (and I think it will), just means that he misses the 2007 season and undergoes more rehab. I would expect him to be ready for the 2008 season. However, how his knee will hold up is a different question and one that cannot or will not be answered until he's on the field. I'm trying to be very optomistic about this situation and yes it's very hard to do. If he can come back at some point, I actually see him playing Guard.

Granted...it most definately is a very tough mental process that he has to go through - A SECOND TIME without any positive reinforcement!

That staph infection thing was a horrible injustice to his effort!

Gets my vote for stupidest post of the year....

1st. He had no idea he was going to get hurt so GMAFB

2nd. He has been working his TAIL off to get back on the field

3rd. He may never play again if he DOESN'T have the surgery... so maybe he gets the surgery and comes back next year.

My point wasn't that he got hurt on purpose! I meant that he played one snap in Training Camp, got hurt, and is likely out for 2007, maybe 2008 and maybe his career. My point was that he never really played for us, sorda what Carl Pavano and the Yankees are going through..

Bro from everything I've read, at this point I want him to have the surgery and come back in 08. If he trys it in 07 without the surgery then from again what I've heard he's putting his career in jeopardy. I would much rather have him ready in 08 and beyond, becuase quite honestly with a rookie at QB and LT this year we are still going to suck butt. However, next year with those guys having a years experience, and another good offseason we can contend..........that's not going to happen this year with or without La. I see no reason to have La this year at the chance of not having him for the 5 years after that. jmho.

Does anyone have an explanation as to what the staph did to his knee?

Did it destroy the repaired tendon and now he needs a new one?

Did it damage the repaired tendon and it needs to be fixed again?

Did it damage something else in the knee that can or cannot be fixed?

I obviously know very little about staph and I am curious how it may have affected LCB.

Any doctor-types out there with an opinion on what might be the problem?

I knew this was coming, but it's still terrible to hear. Another poster mentioned how excited he was when we signed Bentley. I was glowing from ear to ear at work that whole following week. After he got hurt, I was a walking zombie.

I feel worse for him. Anyone who cries when they put on that Browns jersey for the first time is someone who is very endearing to me.

I'm really hoping for some good luck here. Take '07 off and come back in '08 close to the same player he was before. I'm really, really hoping that's what happens here.

Best of luck to you LCB. As a lifelong Browns fan, this is one of my all-time disappointments.

I take the Peen outlook on this (at least I think it was Peen who said this). I basically feel like he'll never play for us... so I'm not expecting him to. But if he does then all the better...

Probably not the most palatable choice for him, but probably the wisest.

Get it done, get to rehabbin and try to be back for '08.

Don't know Willie...some of this stuff is private - you can only pry in so far. Its between him and the Dr. we don't need to know everything - I'm sure his employer does but they have to uphold the law as well and respect his privacy.

I'm sure LCB will do everything in his power to get back. I'm glad he got his payday if the worst happens - his heart was in the right place and I respect him for that!

JMHO - Prayers out to him whatever the case!
