Since Pasta Belly hasn't been shouting his "break" of the story from the rooftops (there's no mention of it anywhere else), it's possible Len could've just been rehashing an old story (especially since the surgery is scheduled for the 5th, not 4th).
It's funny that I just saw Fat Pasqui on ESPN a couple of days ago, and he looked as though he'd lost 15 pounds just from his jowells Must be smokin' crack or sumthin'.
On an unrelated note, first we have far too much unjustified optimism that he's going to make it back this year. Now that it looks like he's not for '07, I'm seeing too much unjustified pessimism
The second surgery is because of damage done from Staph. It's not as though the first surgery on the knee didn't take and they have to attempt a desperate surgery to save his leg. Barring new information on just how severe the damage was, he stands as good a chance coming back now as he would have if he hadn't developed Staph.
I was certain he wouldn't be back this year, but I'm not at all certain he won't be back next year. Best for everyone to just wait and see.......

I agree that's the case, at least on this board. I think with the lack of communication from the FO through this whole process added to the ominous overtones when there was communication, I never expected him to be back this year.
I was surprised that so many people did.

I don't believe that to be the case or he would have just gone ahead with the surgery already and wrote 2007 off.
Additionally, Savage's own words were to the effect that if he had another surgery, his status for '08 and his career would have to be reevaluated.
That tells me there is a better chance of him never coming back than of him making it back. That's not the same as starting from the same spot had the staph never happened.
Maybe it's the nature of the surgery, maybe it's the damage caused by the staph. I don't know. But there should be even less cautious optimism about next year if he undergoes another surgery, IMO.

I hope the guy will be back in 2008. I was just warning people not to get their hopes up for this year.
I probably should say this again in case people missed it or forgot about it. Bentley's knee injury was extremely severe. His kneecap was in his thigh. He didn't walk for months. That's not cool and it's impossible to sugarcoat.
Again, I just hope he is back in 2008. And by the way guys.........let's not feel sorry for ourselves. It's Bents we should be feeling sorry for, and I don't wanna hear a word about the money. This goes beyond money.

Do you happen to know what the difference in severity was between LCB's injury and Baxter's, other than the obvious it was one knee vs. two?
And I agree with the thought that we should feel more badly for LCB and less as fans. It's just disappointing all the way around.
As I mentioned before, one of my biggest all-time disappointments as a Browns fan.

No, I don't have the details on that one. Sorry.
And yes, I knew you were not in the group that was feeling more sorry for yourself than Bents. I did a poor job of not making that clear. Sorry again.

He couldn't go ahead with the surgury until the knee healed to a certain degree and became strong enough.
That's what set the early June timetable.
He had no choice but to wait until now.

And for those that have been paying attention, we already knew this months ago....this was not a secret. This is what was reported quite awhile back, that we were in "wait and see" mode on the need for surgery and whether he would return this year.....or ever.
My hope is that he gets it taken care of and can lead a fruitful life, even if he doesn't play a snap for us. Staph infections are very serious......football is a game.

Browns C LeCharles Bentley (torn patellar tendon) will undergo another round of knee surgery on June 4, according to ESPN's Len Pasquarelli. Hmmmm LeCharles Bentley has surgery scheduled for June 5, but hasn't decided whether he'll undergo the procedure. Well which is it? My thoughts...what is going on with the knee is not truely known but only to LB.. I never expected him to play in 07 and even if he could I would have held him out as long as possible , since the injury/infection was severe.. If he has it well we all have to see if he can even make a comeback..if he doesn't..it still needs to be handled with caution... The disappointing thing is we never even had the chance to see the guy line up..

I think the confusion is that the stories were posted cronologically backward. The origninator of the thread posted the most recent news first and the older news last.
Here they are in the correct order by date.
Just check the date and the statement that goes with it and it makes more sense...
LeCharles Bentley-C- Browns May. 18 - 9:12 am et
LeCharles Bentley has surgery scheduled for June 5, but hasn't decided whether he'll undergo the procedure. The center would miss the 2007 season if he goes under the knife again, as expected. Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer
May. 25 - 6:57 pm et
Browns C LeCharles Bentley (torn patellar tendon) will undergo another round of knee surgery on June 4, according to ESPN's Len Pasquarelli.
Cleveland's $36 million man from an offseason ago will spend his second straight year on injured reserve. The team is likely hopeful Bentley can help in 2008 but at this point his career certainly appears to be in jeopardy.
Still, until he actually has the surgury it's merely a decision. There's still time to change his mind if he so choses.

Toad, I hope you're right about LCB in 2008. Adding him and a new RB could complete our offense next year.

Was it scheduled for yesterday or today?
I think there were conflicting reports.
Anyway, I read somewhere on here that Phil is going to have a press conference today at 1:30, we should know something one way or another then.

Well, I just checked around and I can't find anything... perhaps someone with the NFL network will see it and be able to report..
But if he does have a presser today, sooner or later it will show up on the main browns site as a video or audio clip anyway,,,,

I CANNOT post insider info from my premium membership at the OBR, but Barry McBride just announced on the site that Bentley will NOT, I repeat, will NOT have another surgery! Go to the OBR and see for yourself. It's the top thread running.

Go to the front page, click on "forums", use the pulldown bar & click on "The Watercooler"..it's the thread pinned at the top of the page. Barry McBride runs the OBR so I doubt he's going to report BS. I'd post the link to the thread, but I don't know if that's allowed here...

I'm happy that LCB will play in 07, but I don't know if it's the best long term decision for the Browns, and especially for him. I would have been fine waiting another year for him to come back healthy, but it's his decision, and I am excited about adding him to the mix.

OK...Barry McBride edited his first message to say that Bentley will "reassess" his condition and will decide in 3 weeks. Now I'm starting to think that they are putting off the inevitable announcement that he WILL have surgery, but they don't want to put a damper on the Cavs championship series.

Just because he is not having surgery (which is not official yet) does not necessarily mean he will play this year.

Actually, nobody has came out and said he would play. And quite frankly there have been no actual reports other than an OBR chat page.

BREAKING: Browns center LeCharles Bentley has decided not to have further knee surgery at this time. The 2006 free agent signee will consider whether or not to try training camp with the Browns this year, and give his decision in three or four weeks.
The status of LeCharles Bentley has been one of the major mysteries as the 2007 off-season has gone forward. The OBR has been told that Bentley has decided not to have further knee surgery at this time. The 2006 free agent signee will consider whether or not to try training camp with the Browns ____________________________
Reading this, the team is still kinda in limbo. In that, we do not know if LCB will still even play. Though, I thought I read (and I could be wrong, or have faulty memory), that if he skipped the surgery, it was so he could play this season.

They wont put a damper on a solid off-season and all the optimism by announcing bad news about LCB 2 off-seasons in a row.
He will probably start the season on the PUP and then they will announce whether or not he will make it back. That is if he decides to not have the surgery.
The funny thing is...this announcement resulted in ZERO info of substance regarding his condition or decision.
I am not holding my breath

bents, make sure you make the right decision.
we need you healthy.
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

I think the next 4 weeks will tell the story..I would have doctors all over him..last thing we need is for him to try to play and reinjure the knee.

That's my thinking too bro. As we have discussed in the past, with or without LCB this year we aren't going to be that good. I just don't see the need to rush him back and potentially ruin a piece of the long term puzzle. I know I am in the minority, but I actually would prefer that he had the surgery this year, and made sure the knee was 100% for 08. This year is a developing year for Quinn and Thomas anyway, and because they play such key positions for us imo we are ready when they are ready..............and that ain't going to be this year. If I'm Phil I tell him he's a Brown next year no matter what, and we prefer that he takes the Dr's advice on whether to have that surgery or not.

There's a thing in medicine that says if you DON'T HAVE TO GET CUT on don't do it. I don't have a problem if he doesn't need to be reopened just to wait. It depends on the doctors recommendations..if they feel he doesn't need to have another surgery he shouldn't..but at the same time he could sit out and come back in 08.

My best guess is this is all about tissue regrowth. if the ligament is healing enough it may not have to be replaced again.

I don't know if I heard it here or on an "inside info PM", but bro from what I heard (and you know the guys I talk to they ain't the dolts) the Drs have already said he needs the surgery..................he's just deciding whether he's going to take their advice pretty much. We'll see, but I'm hoping he takes the Drs recommendation, and plays it safe.

I honestly think Bentley is done with football or any other athletic sport. I knew someone that tore all four ligiments in thier knee and they had surgury after surgury . And it still never healed enough to even to do the things they once did. And with someone with a 300 plus frame the stress on the knee is alot more . It if it does heal and i really hope it does , he will never be the same or even close to what he was
