You are talking out of your butt. I never said anything remotely resembling comments such as these: you're basically implying that if we can't stop 100% of gun violence, then we shouldn't bother restricting guns. and when you guys start arguing not to take any preventive measures is absurd. And in another post, you say you don't care what kind of guns I have. What? I am not a gun lover, Swish. I just get sick of people saying that we need to take away our guns. The criminals in the USA will always have guns and you can't tell me that is not the case. As long as they have guns..........I want my guns. If you can guarantee me that no criminal has a gun..........then I will give mine up. Fair enough?

most of the guns being bought are legal. it hard to do something about that, however, for the percentage about the people who get their guns illegally, there's a lot you can do to lower that.
i've already provided links on how someone can make a private purchase and not have to go through a BG check. that needs to be fixed.
some states still have the gun show loop hole. that needs to be fixed.
i'm not sure of the law either, but if you voluntarily go, you should be flagged for maybe a 6 month-year period after you are discharged just to make sure you're good to go.
there's a lot of preventive measure we can take that will lower the chances.

there's maybe one person on this board saying take your guns away.
and it isn't me.
i'm saying there's preventive measures to help lower the chance of suicide/homicide.
the majority of americans, even on the left, don't want to take your guns. that's just an extreme argument used to shut down dialogue on gun control before it even begins.

I don't follow all the conversations on this forum. All I know is what I read from you and Rocket on THIS thread. So, stop w/your BS accusations. Anyone reading your comment at the beginning of this thread or Rocket's comment would have come to the same conclusion as I did.

please, you read all the other threads here. you know exactly what i post. you know my stance on the 2nd amendment. don't play stupid.
if you actually read what rocket has to say, you'd understand that he isn't for taking your guns away either, just for better gun control.
i'll stop with the accusations when you stop with the name calling.
pot-infested brain? man dude, that wasn't even a good one. it was whack. if you're gonna insult somebody, make it good. i expect better insults from an old man.

No, I don't.
I went off of what you said. Go back and see your first post.
I'm sticking to my guns [so to speak] Tell me you can guarantee that the criminals won't have guns and THEN I will give up my guns. Until then.............forget about it.

i'm not telling you to give up your guns.
i dunno why you keep saying this. repeating something over over doesn't make it true.

Sigh...
I live in a place where hunting and responsible gun ownership is the way of life.
Read carefully next time, Vers. Nowhere did I say "we need to take away guns!"
I left commentary on militia groups. That's all. Go grind your ax with someone else.

how in the world did you get that from the post?
the point of my post was that i was challenging the idea that bonnie & clyde jazeera was the main threat, when the reality is that we need to be scared of our own people before worrying about that.
how hypocritical would it be of me to own weapons in the past, be pro-2nd amendment, but then want to turn around and take guns away from americans?
you have a serious reading comprehension problem.

Or much more likely another gun nut American with mental health problems. Sorry dude.....not. You don't have a weapon? If not, you will soon enough. not? tell the board , Peen, who's been responsible for the most mass shootings in this country since...forever, even recently. Foreigners? or our own Americans? Given the number of Americans in this country, compared to the number of foreigners in this country, it would be almost impossible for foreigners to commit more crimes of any kind.

I don't own a gun. I used to own several but got rid of them all when my kids were younger. I've found that an AGS security system is all I need to protect my home. (aggressive german shepherd)

Funny how some folks hate guns which are an inanimate objects, but are completely OK with attack dogs that cant be unloaded or turned off and have their own free thought.
Also there used to be a show on Discovery about breaking into houses. Amazing how easily they calmed even the most vicious seeming dogs. (before someone say it, I know most of the crap on discovery is edited and fake)

Dogs are great but they need to be taken care of feeding, bathing, walking, picking up poop, training etc...and in some areas insurance and extra fee for pets. If you don't have the time to properly care for them it's not an option.

All true. Dogs have been a constant in my adult life. Part of my daily routine for 40 years. I barely notice their impact, I've been with them so long. ...and- you can't play fetch at the city park with a Ruger SR40... _____________________ p.s. I'm NOT anti-gun as implied by Arps. Grew up with them in the house. Fired a .38 at the police range when I was 13. I just don't feel a need to own one... and don't need the responsibility that comes with owning one. When Momz died, I was the estate's executor. Got the firearms appraised, and offered them to his best friends on the force. They were touched that I thought of them first, and snapped them up. Felt great to honor his memory while unburdening myself of unwanted property.

Swish, in all fairness, you did use Australia as an example to support a least part of your argument. They had gun confiscation there...
And yes, I would agree with you that there are a number of people who own a gun because it makes them feel like their junk is bigger... but I would put forth that there are an even greater number of people, especially women, who own and carry because it literally empowers them and at minimum helps to level the playing field should they find themselves about to be victimized. What was the saying? "God didn't make all men equal, Samuel Colt did?"
*GENERAL REPLY*
Regardless of how you feel on this subject, I think most on this thread are missing the point, or at least not pondering the most important question brought up by this article.
Yes there are terrorists, crazies, and genuinely evil people in this world that will use a gun to hurt other people. But the statistical odds of any of you finding yourselves in such a situation (I know some of you HAVE in various degrees) is pretty much nil. Because such incidents can't be predicted, I do believe carrying "just in case" absolutely is a valid reason. My point is, that unless you are a regular shooter or hang out at the gun range, law enforcement officers will interact with people carrying a gun (either committing crimes or lawfully carrying) many more times than you will... yet it's law enforcement promoting personal firearms ownership.
I mean, if it's the actual guns that are the problem, it would make sense that law enforcement as a whole would be the first people to promote less ownership and stricter laws. Yet this isn't the case. I thought the original article was pretty good, until the point where it tried to pin the motivations of Sheriffs as just trying to get re-elected. That may have some to do with it, but it's not a very logical thing to do according to the anti-gun crowd:
-more guns means more people will use them -more gun usage means more people hurt and killed -more people hurt and killed means crime is up -crime is up means ineffective policing -ineffective policing means the Sheriff won't get re-elected.
If the cops are telling you to arm yourselves... you may want to ask yourself Why?

Correct. But I also don't need to take my gun outside when the wind chill is 16 below so the gun can do it's "business" - like last night with Dummy, and again this morning. Climbing out of my warm bed to hit the 16 below temps? Not high on my list of to do's this morning. But, I did. Wife is ill right now (she normally takes him out in the morning, when she gets done with work). Best home defense? Lights. Alarm. Dog - of any size really, but the bigger the better as long as the dog is cognizant of the family's routine and can bark. Dummy is 17 lbs. of "there shouldn't be noise at this time". And a gun. Lights, an alarm, and a dog serve very well to discourage intruders. A gun is the final equalizer. Actually, the dog AND gun are. Here, at least.

According to the anti-gun people ANY and ALL gun usage is misusage. Those bullet (please don't pardon the pun ) points (hee hee.. point as in point a gun... ) were made from their perspective.

probably because we are past the point of no return.
i've said before, if we wanted to be as close to a gun free country as possible, than the 2nd amendment should've been changed decades/centuries ago.
it's too late now to do any "ban" on weapons. i've said this before. there are simply too many guns on the street already, and too many people who would rather die than give up said precious weapons for the government to do anything.
but the answer isn't arming everybody to the teeth.

We should have gun free states (like gun free zones), then the folks who hate guns can live in the safety of being gun free.

not at all.
stricter drug laws doesn't help with illegal firearms, it encourages it.
i dunno if you're attempting a "gotcha" moment or not, but it's not working.
i hope you don't drink alcohol, as alcohol has shown to increase violence in a higher percentage of men when intoxicated.
but you don't see me trying to ban it.
