No trading. If the QB you want gets picked, then pick the next guy you want. I'm tired of chasing ghosts on draft day, and there are plenty of positions that need upgraded, and no definite "gotta get this guy" QBs this year.

We need to stay cool.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

What if you only want one QB and are sure he's a long term starter?

They better get some help for their QB or it just won't matter what picks they get in trade

that's up to Hue and Co. if that's the case.

i don't wanna trade back any more. but there's really no need to trade up to the #1.

The Titans and new general manager Jon Robinson are on the clock.

At least until they aren’t. Robinson used his introductory press conference Monday to let it be known that the No. 1 pick in the 2016 Draft is up for auction.

“We will look at any and all offers that come this way,” he said.

The Titans picked No. 2 last year, and seem to have picked well with quarterback Marcus Mariota. But the results of the last two seasons indicate the roster isn’t good enough, and both Robinson and coach Mike Mularkey said as much Monday.

“This is going to be a fun process,” Robinson said. “I’m looking forward to it.”

If we determine there is a QB worth the #2 pick and a team is trying to trade up for the #1 pick, then we should also try and trade for the #1 pick.

Just don't pull a Heckert and get suckered into an unnecessary deal.
We don't need to trade up. Either way we end up with a decent QB in Lynch of Goff.

You have your GM go on TV and say that you are shopping your pick too and hope the other team falls for it and doesn't trade up.

In 1998 San Diego traded up from #3 to #2 for what they thought was the sure thing at QB. That QB was Ryan Leaf. At the time there was speculation that he was better than Peyton Manning. It cost the Chargers a 1999 first round choice, a second round choice, Patrick Sapp and Eric Metcalf to trade up that one spot.

The Cards used the #3 overall pick on Andre Wadsworth, the 2nd rounder on Corey Chavous, The 1999 pick on David Boston and of course Sapp and Metcalf.

There is nobody ranked close to that in this draft and the guy trading up is putting his head on a plate if he is wrong.

Poor qb play? #4

Lack of a stud WR? #2

Lack of an impact pass rusher? #1

Lack of a shut-down corner? #3

I agree. With the #2 pick, I don't want this QB or that QB... I want Hue to get the QB that HE wants.

"Sure" is a relative term.... but this is what they said about the draft that gave us Bortles, Bridgewater, and Carr... all 3 are looking pretty decent... and in the middle, we took Manziel. willynilly

Ideally, a situation like the past is where DePodesta helps analyze the best talent and Sashi Brown can say 'no' if need be to Halslam.

I have hope with the current structure, this go around.

Personally, as of now, I'd take Goff at #2.

Well if Hue truly thinks there is the QB of the future in the draft, he likes big armed QB's that are mobile, which means Lynch or Wentz over Goff.

Like Dalton? Or Palmer?

I don't think we know what Bootyskin likes. We just have to hope he likes good QBs.

Jacksonville failed with the selection of Gabbert at 9 and was back in for Bortles who they drafted at 3.

The first year for Bortles was bad. But no one is questioning the selection now.

If you think that you have a player, you draft them. Especially a QB. Until you have one, you are looking.

It is the NFL. QB's are a requirement in the game.

*Raises hand sheepishly*

Bortles led the league in interceptions and sacks and was 31st out 35 qualifying QBs in completion percentage. And that was a major improvement from 2014. If he doesn't take another huge step forward then he will have the makings of a bust.

I agree with your overall point though, if there is a QB available that you like, you have to take him. Right now we have a 72 year old, two guys who are backups at best, and a headcase at QB. That is not going to cut it.

He traded for Palmer with the Raiders.

Also, if he hasn't picked anyone, how do we know what type of QB he likes?

Yet he also threw the 2nd most TD passes in the NFL this year. (tied with 3 others, 2 of whom are still in the playoffs, and 1 behind league leader Tom Brady, also still in the playoffs)

Bortles needs to learn a little bit of caution. I think that teaching an aggressive QB to be a little bit more cautious as he learns what defenses in the NFL can do is easier, and a more natural path, than teaching a timid QB to be aggressive.

People talk about completion %, and Bortles did check in at 58.6%. Most people set the lower edge for a deep thrower type QB at 60%. He attempted 606 passes. (a ton for any QB, and 6th most in the NFL)

Jacksonville only ran for 92 yards/game. That is less than we did. They rushed for only 5 TDs. (and 2 of those were by Bortles) They also had the 2nd worst scoring defense, allowing a staggering 28 points per game.

I believe that if they get the team around him right, he will take those final steps and become a true franchise QB. He's not there yet, and he needs help around him, but he did remarkable things considering the team he had around him.

I wish we had him. (or Carr)

*Edit to add*

Also, check out how many passes Bortles threw short compared to deeper passes. ESPN has him with 574 passes in their splits.

He threw only 79 passes behind the LOS. (14%) He threw only 259 passes in the 1-10 yard range. (45%)

He threw 236 passes of 11 or more yards in the air. (41%) That is an enormous number.

Let's compare to another QB whose name is often used on the board, Teddy Bridgewater:

Using ESPN's splits, Teddy threw 428 passes. (in their breakdown, which, like Bortles, is slightly different than his statline for some reason) Of these, he threw 98 behind the LOS. (23%) He threw 212 between 1-10 yards in the air. (49.5%) He threw only 118 of his 447 passes for more than 11 yards in the air. (27.5%)

So Bortles threw 41% of his passes for 11 or more yards int he air. Bridgewater threw only 27.5% of his passes in that range. (and Bridgewater is closer to the NFL average in this regard)

I am still staggered that Bortles threw deep as much as he did. I think that as he learns to take what is there, completions to the RBs when a receiver is not as open, for example, he will become a greatly improved QB. When he doesn't have to do it all for his team, he will be improved. As he continues to study and learn, he will be improved. He is said to be a hard worker, and willing to study and work on his craft.

I think that we'll be talking about Bortles in the top level of QBs in the not too distant future.

I know I didn't hear Hue J say this, but I do remember reading from someone that Hue liked Kaepernik... Which seemed to be a concern.

Any of these QB's in the draft have any similarities to Kaep ?

Okay........you are acting like one of the turds on this board. Show me where I have said that the Browns "are set at quarterback."

Look, I get it that you and some others want us to draft a qb, but don't make crap up at my expense.

Here is my take: I do NOT think any of this year's quarterbacks are worthy of a high first round grade. I also think the Browns lack impact players in the worst way. If there was a qb that I thought was really good, I would be all for selecting him. What I don't want is to pick another dud qb while ignoring the fact that this team needs impact players at other positions.

So, just for giggles, how about a double-barreled shotgun approach. If we can get Goff at two, could we package some stuff up for Bosa and try to go 1 and two? I really don't want trade back down this round. We need more help in a number of areas, but we seemed to like projects. I would like to see impact players this round. I believe Bosa can fit that category. Just wonder what this might have to be to get it done.

No guarantees. No projects, either. And it would hinge on what we find in FA. The idea of depending on the draft with more picks as driving priority hasn't done much good. So I am suggesting quality over sheer quantity. Defensive take should contribute quicker than Goff might be able to or Lynch or Wentz. FWIW. We may have room to play later rounds, but what might this take?

Not sure if anyone has suggested this thought but, what about pulling a Washing Redskins and go with two Quarterbacks in this draft. Maybe take Goff at 2 or Wentz and then later in the draft 4 or 5 draft someone like Cardale or someone who may have the physical tools but needs work on the mental side of it. It seemed to eventually workout for the Redskins this year and they don't have a great offense around him but just enough to get the job done. I think we need to get the weapons around as much as finding the guy for QB. I agree with a lot of you just don't feel this QB class has the potential of franchise quarterbacks in it. I could be wrong because the league works out in different ways. But we have to look around the league and see what has worked for others and try to find our way of doing so.

Throwing deep where there is less traffic has always been what Bortles did best going back to UCF. It is also what Hurns excels at, which is why it was such a coup for them to get him as a UDFA ( banghead )

I suggested taking 2 lower round QB's. This is a deep QB class if anything.

His offense. He likes to take off the top in the passing game to open the run and his love of trick plays needs a QB with mobility. It's one reason why he was a Kaepernick fan. He was thinking about the QB sweep and the double reverse flea flicker and the QB throwback. Pryor is going to love him.

I just can't make myself believe that any of the QB's in this class are good enough to go high in the draft.

As for taking a couple, you bring up Washington, but what about the years that the Panthers or Jags did that. One of them being the kid from Notre Dame. Jimmy Clausen I think was his name, can't remember the name of the second guy. Maybe Tony Pike I think.. Not sure.

Clausen never amounted to much and if it was Pike, he's out of the league.

Clausen is with the Ravens now.

I think the Redskins got lucky with Cousins. I don't think it's a trend.

We need a starter for the long term. Not sure there is even one in this draft.

Other than the turds comment, I am with you on this one Versatile. Taking a QB at pick 2 does not make him a good QB. If no one grades out as a first round QB, you just way overreached. I also agree QB play was not our #1 concern last season.

I know you like to research things. How can a guy find out where this year's QBs would rank if they were in any of the past 3-4 drafts. For example, would be with Bortles/Teddy/Carr etc or below Savage. Would Savage (or someone like him the past couple drafts) be highly ranked if we in this year's draft?.

WE defiantly need a pass rusher and corner and a I really feel our red zone TD production is awful because we have so many 5'8" receivers. Of couse the draft to address that was really 2 years ago.

Like Dalton? Or Palmer?

I don't think we know what Bootyskin likes. We just have to hope he likes good QBs.

He wasn't the one that picked those guys.

He just developed them.

He traded for Palmer with the Raiders.

Also, if he hasn't picked anyone, how do we know what type of QB he likes?

His offense. He likes to take off the top in the passing game to open the run and his love of trick plays needs a QB with mobility. It's one reason why he was a Kaepernick fan. He was thinking about the QB sweep and the double reverse flea flicker and the QB throwback. Pryor is going to love him.

I don't see it. That is just because he has Andy Dalton.

It's almost like he built the offense around his QBs skillset.

Check out the draft analysts big boards in each year. That isn't totally accurate because it doesn't take into account more top talent in one draft vs another, but it's about as close as you are going to get.

Yeah, I totally agree w/all of that.

I don't know. Maybe cfrs, Deputy, Jester, or someone else knows if there are any comparisons???

This is just my opinion...........I would rank all of this year's qb behind Teddy, Johnny, Bortles, Carr, and Jimmy G if all were coming out at the same time.

That doesn't mean that one of this year's QBs isn't going to be great. It's just how I view them.

You'd really rank Goff below Jimmy G? Come on........ A QB out of Eastern Illinois who really never played anybody besides Northwestern (loss) and Northern Illinois (loss).

Not saying he's a bad QB, but he had proven very very little. Same deal with Tony Romo.

The only way I can think of is to go back and look at a "scout" who uses some sort of rating system that translates across years. I know ESPN ranks players doing this, but I don't have access to ESPN Insider.

Going off my gut, I would say that Goff/Wentz/Lynch would rank somewhere around the Bortles/Bridgewater/Carr group.

That's a novel approach. Makes sense, if true.

But here, he has a chance to pick a QB and not have to work with one that is already here (assuming he had nothing to do with the Dalton pick).
