so i bring this up because this year will be pretty big for me.

once the fall 2016 semester ends, i'll have my first degree done, supply chain management. then after the summer 2017 semester, ill have the business admin. degree. from there, i'll decide if i wanna hit the job market, or continue on to an MBA.

so my goal for 2016:

-finish up my first degree.

- make the move into the suburbs as smooth as possible.

-get to 195lbs

-get proficient at the german language.

-make a short film(hobby)

how about yours?

-Start working on my masters in educational leadership.

-Transition from treadmill running to outside running.

-Take a trip to see the majority of road system Alaska. There's a huge difference between bush Alaska, where I'm at, and road system Alaska.

-Keep getting better with photography.

-Put together the first yearbook for our school in over five years.

Goals? Make it through.

Get daughter her driving permit on Wed. Nothing left for me to do though. Just get her to the DMV.

Get busy at work. Winter is always slow, and I hate it.

Watch our retirement funds, as minimal as they are, rebound from the recent 3 week loss of over $7000.

Get daughter's driver's license in July, so we don't have to be running her places 6 days a week (practices, etc)

Figure out how to pay for the increased insurance due to Sooga getting her license. smile

Continue to see my son do well in his degree pursuit. He may even spend 4-5 weeks up here doing what I think is called a presceptorship"? Whatever it's called, he'd be here during the week working with a doctor, then heading back to Columbus to work weekends. Just this weekend when he was here he asked "dad, if I get accepted at X, can I stay here during the week?" Well, duh.

Grow my business.

Have as much, if not more fun, than I had in 2015.

Fix our yard.

Slow down, in a good way.

Quit being a dumbass and spend more time with my dad.

I would like to continue with my online business and grow it larger.

I also would like to learn German. I've been using duolingo, but can't keep up with it. I need to buckle down. That program is rather intensive.

I want to drink less alcohol, so have banned liquor from my house.

Speaking of, how you doing? If you don't mind me asking.

As for me...

- Not to go back to the hospital - I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis near Thanksgiving and had to spend 12 awful days in the hospital. Man, did that figuratively and literally kick my butt. I dropped 25+ lbs. (15% of my weight) and it really reshaped my whole life (diet, medicine, etc.). I'm doing well now. The meds are controlling things, I'm working, I'm exercising, and most of my weight is back.
- Complete 2-3 snowboarding trips (1 Colorado and 2 Wisconsin)
- Do 200+ pull-ups again during a back workout
- Get my conceal carry license
- Pay off our credit cards & control our spending
- Install a backsplash in the kitchen
- Attend the Cavaliers title parade smirk
- Be nicer to my wife and daughter
- And yes, make it to 2017 grin

My 2016 goals:

Improve my overall chances of a decent standard of life (of course):

- Maintain a fairly rigorous and challenging exercise/work/play schedule.

- Improve my financial security.

- Meet and make new friends.

- Deepen my understanding of life, find happiness, and enjoy this crazy ride.

Two primary goals for 2016..

First is to get back into a good nutrition and training regimen similar to what I was in a year ago before I hurt my back.

Second.. simplify, simplify, SIMPLIFY... I need to declutter my life and get back to the basics of having time to enjoy myself and my family...

I'm Happy to hear your doing better bro smile

As of my last colonoscopy and MRI my cancer is still in remission. I did however have my third stroke in the last year while I was in for the colonoscopy. Damn Hospital didn't use a filter on my IV. This stroke left me with some speech problems and more cognitive problems, and have me thinking about having the hole in my heart repaired.

I like this kind of stuff, I've always been goal oriented person.

My main goal is to ride the entire Ohio to Erie Trail this summer...this is what I'm referring to..

http://www.ohiotoerietrail.org/interactive-map/

I wish it was more but I'm going to break the cycling up into a bunch of rides instead of 1 long ride....I'm considering having a custom made bike to fit me perfectly...I have to make that choice soon...otherwise the Fuji bikes will have to do...I'm almost done building the wheel set for this years riding and am excited about it.

Financially I have no more to do..I'm happy with where I'm at..now its time to spend some of it and see the US this year.

I got my will set this last week...that was important and after long discussions with my wife we finally agreed on what I'm going to do...this was a goal of mine and I'm glad the process is over and I'm not giving it another thought.

I wanted to learn another language..but I'm struggling to speak understandable English...so I guess another goal will be not to get frustrated with my terrible speech...I write much better then I talk...and ride better then I walk so those are goals...get better at things I can do well.

Another one is to just let life come and enjoy what I can I'm not living off of a schedule anymore..I'm going to do whatever catches my fancy for that day.

I'm going to work on being a much happier person and keep people around me that are happy positive folks.

I'm going to do more with my 2 Boston Terriers...they are spoiled rotten and are the only animals Ive ever bonded with..so I'm going to do more with them..include them more in the travelling and other parts of my life. I like my dogs better then most people.

Last but not least..just enjoy life...not take things so serious and learn to laugh more/again..life is to short to be pissed off over minor stuff..heck even major stuff..it will pass...and I'd rather put my energies into happiness instead of anger.

I generally don't make lists like this, but it might be a good thing because I have quite a few things now that I think about it
  • finish putting my ex and that world behind me
  • qualify for 2017 Ironman 70.3 World Championships
  • "get my brick" at Savageman
  • build a backyard forge and machine shop from scratch
  • finish the last of the big projects on my house
  • get a new project website/application up and "live", ready for subscribers
  • take over the world

--I am really hoping that this is the year that I finally overcome depression. To say nothing of Anxiety. Memory loss, paranoia, low self esteem, panic attacks, inability to concentrate and on and on...

It almost cost me my marriage.
It almost took my life--3 times, and I know it was the reason I was fired tho' proving it would be near impossible.

Last year I made over 20 bucks an hour and logged in over 50 hrs a week. Now I work less than 30 hrs @ 9.50 an hr.

--Aside from getting mentally healthy, Get better medically . . . Sleep Apnea, Diabetes, High Blood pressure (it was 182/105 this morning!)low Thyroid...I need to get physically healthy too gotta get in shape!!

--On the plus positive side, my wife and I are finally becoming more husband/wife than ever and have finally decided to sell the house and move to North Carolina. We're looking at the Wilmington area first, Raleigh second. So hopefully by this time next year I'll be south of the Mason Dixon!!

Thanks,GM.

I have been keeping tabs on you via comments and I am glad to read the word -remission-.

Brought a tear to my eye. It was the same word my brother used five years ago after his colon cancer diagnosis and subsequent surgery and chemo.

-Finally get my house sold

-knock out my Associates in Criminal Justice by the end of the year, and hopefully transition in to working on a Bachelors in an undetermined field. I'm working on putting together a plan for an alternate career

-Get most of (if not finish) a writing a novel

-In the last couple of months my girlfriend and I have finally gotten our heads out of our butts and are finally on the right path. She's got 3 girls (11,10, and 8) who I adore. I've never had my own kids before so transitioning in to the step-dad role is going to be a huge adjustment for me

What kinda board do you use? You own a board or rent it at the spot?

I'll be praying for you. I hope that every day gets a little better than the one before. It sounds like you have a great wife. I so respect a spouse who stays and works on his/her marriage, even when there are really difficult problems to overcome.

May the Lord be with you both.

My goal for this year is to become a Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church. I have one class down, and have 4 more to go. I am hopeful that I can take one or two online. That would be so much easier for me.

I am currently a certified Lay Servant, which means that I can speak from the pulpit in my own "home" church. When I become a Lay Speaker, I will be able to fill in at other churches as kind of a guest pastor, if needed, and if I choose to do so. I might even be able to have a small church of my own, if one opens up. I don't know if I want to go that far, but who knows where God will lead me? Then, from there ...who knows? Maybe I'll go forward to becoming a Lay Minister. I don't think that I would be able to go through all of the classwork that would lead to a clergy position, and frankly, I don't know if I would want to do that anyway, but I am excited to learn more within the United Methodist Church.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

You board too? That's right, aren't you in Colorado?

I have a 2006 Burton Twin 157 I bought brand new. It's still in good shape but I think I want to get a shorter, more flexible board next season.

Renting versus buying comes down to how often you hit the slopes and/or how long you can own it. I think I've paid for the board 1.5-2 times over versus renting. Although, it's a pain to have to lug around on the train and at airports.

No matter what, I'd advise owning your own boots. Those are key. I could justify paying $300+ for great boots.

We have a guys-only snow trip every February. We fly in Sunday, hit the slopes Mon-Thurs, and then fly out Friday. It's great. I was nervous I might not make it this year, but I'm not going to let UC slow me down (well, as much as I can control it).

Speaking of goals, if I could call my shot, I'd move to Avon, CO tomorrow if I could. I would really like to be living next to Beaver Creek and Vail. Maybe that's a great idea on paper, but I think I'd go boarding every Friday afternoon and sneak in a few runs over a few lunches. And I'd really like to take my daughters out more than we do now (which is essentially one weekend a year in Wisconsin).

She gets (hopefully) her permit tomorrow.

Just having the extra car we bought added about $45 per month. Insurance doesn't go up for a teen with only a permit. So, right now, it's just the $45.

Once she gets her license, it will jump another $100 or so per month.

That's what happened with my son, 11 years ago when he got his license, monthly went up $100. We will get discounts for good student, blah blah blah, and for her being a girl, so I'm expecting in the $100 to $120 a month range.

Worst case, I'm hoping the total increase will be in the $150/month range.

Good one.

It's just everywhere. First my wife and I have been working on being more efficient just getting stuff done. Grocery shopping, laundry, general housework, getting my daughter places, etc.. seems like we waste a ton of time because we don't plan well enough.

Second is outside time wasters... church is a big one for me. I enjoy most of it but once you get involved in a church, your phone never stops ringing... everybody wants you on this committee or participating in that event.. sometimes I wish I had just stayed anonymous in the back. I like to help with stuff, I just don't like the committees and things that meet regularly and create a consistent obligation.

My job, I like my job but they are always asking for volunteers to head up new initiatives, speak at company functions, etc.. and I hate to say no. And they can take up a lot of time, and it's not like they give you a break on the other stuff you have to do so you have time to do it.... it's in addition to.

Projects around the house, nothing new gets started until a couple of the old ones get done.. and never more than one going at a time any more...

So my decluttering... if it doesn't improve my relationships with family and/or close friends... or if it doesn't benefit my career in some tangible way... or if it just flat out doesn't make me happy... I'm going to have to say no. (still trying to figure out how the Browns fit one of those. tongue )

Hang in there Blue! We need more Browns fans not less!
I will pray for you too.
Maybe getting into better shape will lower some of your numbers and make you feel better at the same time. Good luck.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
