I'm pretty damned happy about the Al Saunders rumor. Hoping it's true that he's a sure hire. That guy knows offense.

In the car listening to KNR yesterday, Grossi mentioned the week being quiet was a good thing. He mentioned there may be guys hired, and they may be waiting to announce them all at once..

Yes speculation from Tony, does it hold any merit who knows. I just figured I would pass that on..

Probably because Hue has him pegged as the #1 choice. I am not a big fan of Ray based on the last visit, but I do understand being comfortable with a hire. If Ray is who Jackson wants to hitch his wagon to, so be it.

I guess this is about where I'm at. Not a fan of Ray but if Hue wants him, then that's what should happen.

I'm still not sure if I'm Ray that I even take the interview.

Why not?

His salary with another team would be offset by the salary the Browns are still paying him from his old contract, but he stands a good chance of double dipping that deal here instead.

'Browns close to adding Al Saunders to offensive staff'

New Browns coach Hue Jackson may not want to hire an offensive coordinator, but he’s close to hiring a guy who has spent a lot of years with that title.

Via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Jackson is expected to hire his former Raiders coordinator Al Saunders to help him fix the Browns defense. The two old friends interviewed last week, and Saunders should be joining the team soon.

The 68-year-old Saunders was last a consultant with the Dolphins. He was head coach of the Chargers in the late 1980s (replacing Don Coryell), and also worked with Jackson in Baltimore.

He’s been coordinator in Kansas City, St. Louis and Washington as well, and has a long track record of helping teams’ passing games.

Hue is thinking outside the box this time. Kudos to MKC for breaking such revolutionary news.

Thanks that was perfect...lol

What many forget this is Hue Jacksons show now. It his "TEAM" that he is building. Let get this guy that guy...the point being they have to be HIS guys no more a Hodge Podge of heads and directions. ONE GOAL, ONE DIRECTION - ALL on the same page. I'm building my TEAM...I want MY O my D doesn't mean I micro manage it all. But I want it MY WAY!

That is called a HEAD, Leader of course his situation is a little more complex...but a TEAM is a TEAM!

jmho I want him to build it his way.

I’m told Kirby Wilson has officially signed with the #Browns to become their running game coordinator. He is leaving the #Vikings.

Browns finalizing deal for Ray Horton as...nd Kirby Wilson

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns are finalizing a deal with Ray Horton as their offensive coordinator and have also added Al Saunders and Kirby Wilson to their offensive staff, league sources have said.

Saunders will be senior assistant and Wilson will be the running game coordinator.

Horton has already put in a request to the league office to hire some of the assistants he left behind in Tennessee, a league source told cleveland.com.

Horton, 55, returns to Cleveland, where he ran the defense in 2013 under Rob Chudzinski. The Browns finished ninth in yards allowed that season and 23rd in points per game.

The Titans finished 12th on defense this year with Horton running the show, including seventh against the pass and 18th against the run.

Saunders was Hue Jackson's offensive coordinator in 2011 in Oakland, where they went 8-8 before Jackson got fired after the season. He's been a head coach of the Chargers and was part of the Rams' Greatest Show on Turf Super Bowl-winning team in 1999.

Wilson's contract expired on Tuesday and he met with the Browns today to finalize his deal.

Like Horton, Wilson coached for the Steelers and knows the AFC North.

I agree some good hires. Hue is putting together some pretty good x and o kind of coaches.

I preferred Schwartz, but I think Horton is grossly underestimated. As Rob Ryan, I wonder how good Ray can be given his ideal personal.

After all..They are the Cleveland Browns.. thumbsup

I think so far Hue is doing a good job with the staff..

I wasn't a fan of bringing back Horton, But I'm not the HC.

I will support him now and hope he succeeds and turns this "D" into a bad ass group.

There has been to much misery and negativity in the past, I won't continue that cycle before the start of this season.

Agree or disagree I will support this staff and wish them the best.

Nothing worse than being down and negative just to be.

I want this team to win, so I want this coaching staff to do that, for the franchise and fans. Sending out the positive vibes.

As I said before, I'm not super excited about Horton given his previous stint, but I'm willing to give him a real shot since I don't think he had enough time to build what he wanted to. I think he'll have a better chance this time.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Seems like Horton is the man. We will run the 3-4 Zone blitz scheme. At least he will attack. Now we need a 3-4 defensive end to bookend with Bryant, and a LOT of linebackers. 4 starters and some backups.

So again, these Browns staff hires are done: Ray Horton, Pep Hamilton, Al Saunders, Kirby Wilson and Hal Hunter. Impressive haul for Hue.

Hal Hunter...it looks like the Browns are going traditional man blocking scheme.

Looks like a legit, veteran coaching staff - no noobs, no rookies. Good job, Hue.

I think Horton is a good DC. I know his scheme is effective. So now it becomes a matter of keeping him in place and giving him the players needed to kill quarterbacks. That means linebackers. In this defense we should draft a linebacker every year at some point in the draft and early and often to get us started. I wish there was an LT type sitting there at 2. I know there isn't but an elite pass rusher at DE or linebacker would sure make me smile.... When we get 50 sacks a year, season after season, then I'll be satisfied with the pass rush smile

I don't suppose there are any significant FA's at linebacker this year? We have cap space and we are in desperate dire need....

Hiring a good coaching staff doesn't in the slight mean Jimmy fooled anyone. Browns hired a pretty good staff under Chud. How did that turn out? To me, it is a step in the right direction proof can they actually build something?

I don't think I know more than you. Not trying to say that at all.

Look, before the season so many of you were so high on both Pet and Farmer. Superstars. Heck, you said we were going to win 11 games.

The team sucked, as several of us predicted. The fans turned on the team. Haslam blew things up again. The fans were appeased and our buying into the new regime once again.

I see more of the same crap. I don't believe in them. That doesn't mean I think you should agree w/me, but I ain't gonna let him sucker me again.

I'm hearing you. This last coaching staff tossed to the curb shows Haslam's colors. I hope your theory isn't correct. Ruining Hue's career would be an absolute sin.

On another note, let's hope Mangini gets a real chance with the 49ers,

I'm in wait and see mode. I was disappointed they didn't even talk to an experienced coach. Hue Jackson is an unknown. He may or may not be a good head coach. Huge question mark.

I think Horton is a good DC. I have no problem with the hire except I would have preffered a 4-3 guy. Now, lets see the lawyer and baseball guy draft some stud linebackers so Horton can actually RUN the zone blitz D. I would also suggest that you ask Horton to groom a possible replacement in case he gets a HC job at some point. If we're going to build for this D then we are committed to it. Be nice to have a guy in place.

Do I WANT this to work? Bet your ass I do. I'm not getting any younger. Would be awesome if we could build a team that could actually play some ball. But you know me man, if they start blowing it I will point it out lol I have no allegiance to any coach, GM or owner. No loyality to any player. They have none for us... So it's time to show and prove for Jackson and the front office. Lets SEE if they are worth their salt, or if it's just another case of "meet the new boss, same as the old boss"

If I predicted we were going to suck? Seriously? You don't remember all the attacks that some of us received this summer? It wasn't that long ago.

It's real simple. I knew we had inferior talent.

Again.........unless we could have hired a superstar like Saban, I was all for retaining Pet. Farmer had to go. But, losing him would not have hurt the continuity because we could have kept the same schemes and many of our better players.

Now.........we changed coaches and we're going to have to wait even longer because the schemes are changing and we don't have the right personnel to fit them, blah, blah, blah.

It's the same old crap designed to buy more time while Haslam fills his pockets.
