This sounds interesting, I noticed a few Browns comments on other sights.
Falcons parting ways with Lionel Vital

In 2008, Lionel Vital was one of the first hires made by Falcons G.M. Thomas Dimitroff. Eight years later, Vital is the first major change the team has made in the wake of a recent indication from owner Arthur Blank that adjustments are coming.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Falcons have parted ways with Vital, who elevated from national scout to director of player personnel. Along the way, he was interviewed for the G.M. job in Tampa.
Vital had been an important part of the organization, with a keen eye for talent and a longstanding relationship with Dimitroff.
Vital has 25 years of experience in scouting and player personnel, working for teams like the Ravens, Patriots, Jets, and Browns. A running back as a player, he was a seventh-round pick of Washington in 1985.
Come on man....I'd bet most owners go. Plus, it's a pretty sweet place, especially this time of year. Usually upper 60's, low 70's this time of year. Who wouldn't want to spend some time in that?
Owners -- except for Dallas' Jerry Jones -- typically don't attend the college all-star practices and games, but Haslam flew down to take the scouts to dinner on Monday night and is leaving later on Tuesday, a team spokesman told cleveland.com.

being a browns fan is like taking your dog to vet every week to be put down...
I think that it sure doesn't prove the theory that some of you are throwing out that Haslam has learned from his mistakes and is going to trust his people to make all the decisions.
I don't think squat has changed. Too many cooks in the kitchen.

And if he didn't go, would you say he's uninvolved and doesn't care?
Hey, he owns the team, he's got a BILLION Bucks tied up in this investment. If he doesn't go, he's an IDIOT.

I thought he went to interview someone for the Personnel postion, Then he left, whats the big deal? Maybe he should just stick his head in the sand and keep saying "theres no place like home" "theres no place like home".

If I was the owner I would go to stuff like this. Whether "involved in the scouting process" or not. I read senior bowl scouting reports, I watch the combine on tv. If I had the chance to go, I would. It would just be fun.

I have a serious question for you--and all the others--who continue to belittle my takes on the state of the Browns: Have you ever once considered how many times we have had similar conversations and how things actually played out? And you are still trying to act like my takes on these matters are whacked?
No, I wouldn't say that. Owners do not go to those types of events, unless they are part of scouting team. You know, like Jerry Jones is.
So, your team is a hot mess, you just fired your third coach since you bought the team, you have taken a different tact this time in hiring and organizing the team. One that is new but yet, not so new but without a doubt, different.
You also have a Billion or more tied up in this investment and a ton of your time as well.
And you wouldn't be involved where they are looking at players and where you may find your next personnel guy?
Oh, one other point,I don't think you know each teams attendees so how can you say that owners don't normally go to that.

Cleveland Browns: Jimmy Haslam Taking 'Hands-On' Approach Going Forward, Per Report
Jan 26, 2016 03:26 PM EST
For those hoping the Hue Jackson hire meant Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam would stop meddling in the team's decision-making, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Cleveland Browns fans were probably hopeful that Hue Jackson's installation as head coach would lead to a new era of Browns football. Unfortunately, the new Browns sound a little too much like the old Browns. According to a report from Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, franchise owner Jimmy Haslam is at the Senior Bowl in Alabama this week, eyeing up potential future Browns prospects, part of Haslam's plan to take a more "hands-on" approach with the team going forward.
Haslam, of course, is the owner under whose rule a "toxic" culture has reportedly proliferated. Haslam has presided over an era of Browns football that has now seen five head coaches fired since 2007, three of which were dumped in the last four years. Pat Shurmur was dropped after 2012, when Haslam first bought the team. Rob Chudzinski, the first head coaching hire of the Haslam regime, lasted the 2013 season. And Mike Pettine was given two years and a boatload of underperforming draft picks with which to get the job done.
Haslam's time at the top of the Cleveland franchise has been marked by rumors not just of that "toxic" culture, but of his own penchant for meddling. Haslam reportedly wanted Johnny Manziel in the 2014 NFL Draft and pushed former GM Ray Farmer to select him.
This isn't to say that Haslam's presence at the Senior Bowl is a sign of further frustrating and ultimately negative things to come for Browns fans. Cole suggests that Haslam traveled to Mobile in order to ensure that his new team, led by Jackson, is working cohesively.
But if there's one thing a man with millions of dollars at stake is generally bad at, it's keeping his nose out of big decisions. As the owner, Haslam holds ultimate say. But things in Cleveland won't start to improve unless and until that owner realizes he needs to hire top NFL people, let them do their job without injecting himself in the process and, for the love of god, give them time to get it right. link

Nothing wrong with that. He's got to be sure it's going to work this time. Just another nobody stirring up the pot.

I believe the author has a good idea of what the underlying problem with the Browns has been since Haslam bought the team.
Some might want to look at the situation differently, which is their right, but I'm with the author, the problem with the Browns begins at the very top of the franchise.
Until Haslam steps back and takes a back seat, allowing the people he hires to do their job, it's difficult to see that much improvement under this new management structure.

So wait, is it just me, or did anyone else notice that the quote you highlighted from the article contradicts the title the same article?

I am not throwing any theories out there. Just pointing out it is stupid to think of Haslam as our top scout.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I'm not in total disagreement on the basis of your post, there has definitely been turmoil in the Browns organization...for a lot longer than Haslem has been here..
My issue is with the article itself. What respectable website/news organization writes an article based solely on another article written by a someone at the Bleacher Report and pawns it off as an actual news story?
Too many websites needing clicks for my taste nowadays...Go do some actual reporting if you want to be respectable.
To me, Bleacher Report is kind of like TMZ of the sports world.
Cole see's Haslam and jumps to the conclusion he is down there scouting prospects.
Other reports indicate he was down there to talk to some Personnel candidates and take his scouting team out for a dinner.
I am sure Haslam discussed how important this time of year is and things like, that but I seriously doubt he handed the scouts his wishlist and a list of 4-5 players he wanted us to see.

Man, after reading the article and watching the video it was based on, I find that this is nothing more than a couple of people hedging their bets that things aren't going to work. Then they get to claim how right they are in the end.
I'm a pretty smart Dawg, I investigate crimes for a living.. yet somehow I still can't make the leap from "unnamed sources", rumors Jimmy ordered Manziel to be drafted, and vague phrases like "more hands-on" to somehow meaning he's Jerry Jones 2.0.
I wonder if people like the Rooneys or the Bob Kraft would consider themselves "hands on" within their franchises? My guess is that they could be described as such.

What?!!? Start listening to yourself, man. I have no idea what he "brings" to a picnic - type committee effort. The more he abstracts this for us, the more concerned I become.
What does he mean to the process? Why so much input? At best, seems counterintuitive to me. I guess I want to know while we scout and input and opine and listen just to pick some over the others eventually, I want to know who is swinging the most weight, maybe a pecking order to the process.
Clearer than mud almost it is.

Amazing too isn't it, that the written article was published at 3:30 on a Tuesday afternoon... I'm curious as to how much scouting Jimmy was able to do in less than a day and half?

To some, I am sure the big board is already set. We might as well go home until the draft starts.

The author has no idea what's wrong with the Browns.. What did he say about Lerner 1 or Lerner 2?

He just put together a team to run our ship. Minus the Personnel guy.
If he was going down there to participate I can see the ehhh do I want that effect.
But I think it is obvious that he is just making sure the guys who are down there have it all under control. Possibly a short meeting of business regarding the PERSONNEL HIRE COMING UP. A vote of confidence to our guys there. Make sure he has a Nice dinner and camaraderie that comes with a get together. A bosses bonding moment with the new guys.
I don't see any iota of Micro managing as he went back I believe last night spent a day together with them and dinner.
We all know Jones is the owner and GM so he is there evaluating and is more than the owner but wearing all the hats.
The other owners aren't all having changes of GM and HC where its an entirely new crew down there.
As Peen said the atmosphere is comfortable there are many minor interviews I think being done.
I think as long as it turned out that he was not micromanaging its all good.

Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
The reports are true that Jimmy was there scouting. They just didnt put in the part about him scouting for a top personnel guy instead of a player. Although if he wasnt there checking out Wentz as well then something is wrong with him. If we are gonna invest a top pick in a QB, if I am Haslam, I am geting every bit of the knowledge I can about the kid.
BTW senior bowl week awesome! Combines are boring and suck but Senior bowl week and practice and all the wisdom and knowledge in the place is amazing. It was always my favorite trip of the year.

..."To me, Bleacher Report is kind of like TMZ of the sports world."
Dont like the message, shoot the messenger..that always works. Is Haslam a "hands on" owner?...yes and he has been since he bought the team. Problems with this franchise begin with the owner and his insistence that he be the next Jerry Jones.
..."The author has no idea what's wrong with the Browns.. What did he say about Lerner 1 or Lerner
The title of the story, "hands on owner"...neither of the Lerners fit that discription.
And the lerners got beat on about that. Then Jr. Got beat on because he was said to love the English Premier league more than the NFL
Basically, it doesn't matter what an owner does. IF the team doesn't win, some wing nut will have something bad to say.
Here's the point that I'd like you to ponder.
What is a owner to do?
Al Lerner teamed with two guys that were at least successful somewhere before. That didn't work.
Jr. Teamed with what looked like talented people and tried several different times. That didn't work.
Sells team to Jimmy Haslam.
He gets rid of things that have Lerners fingerprints on them! Hires what he thinks he needs but having never been an "IN CHARGE OWNER" before, he makes a mistake.
Then he makes another.
Now we have Hue Jackson, Sashi Brown and Depodesta! Too new to rate of course.
What's the one thing that you see here between the Three Owners of the Browns (counting Al as 1, Jr. as 2) over the last 16 years?
ANSWER: They keep trying.
The race doesn't always go to the swift, butt rather to those that Keep Running.
