While I have a ccw......my biggest concern is when I'm at home.
Places I go are pretty doggone safe.
My home is pretty doggone safe.
But, living in the country, in a county where my police "protection" involves 2 sheriff's deputies for a 420 sq. mile area - yeah, my protection is me.
Someone beating on my door at 4 a.m. - wife calls 911 and basically says "someone is trying to break in, get here" 16 minutes till the deputy arrived.
16 minutes.
I'm glad the guy was so hopped up on ocy that he didn't break in.
Imagine someone that just decided he was coming in - no beating on the door, no yelling.
I, my wife, my daughter, and the friend she had over that night, could have all been killed.
As it was, we were awoken (thank God), I was armed (thank God) and the guy stayed outside (thank God).
I don't carry often, and when I do, it's not a "macho" thing, at all.

I just watched an episode of Gunsmoke. Aaahhhh.......the good ol' days. Yes young man and there is something to be learned from the opening of every Gunsmoke show, Marshal Dillon is NOT the first to fire. Listen and you will hear as the other hotshot bad guy draws and shoots quickly while the Marshal raises his gun and fires at the target. Marshal wins even tho he is slower on the draw. Bad guy blown to Libby Hell.

The while the "go move to<insert wherever> line is nice for a quick shot, in reality it doesn't make sense.
that argument boils down to "stop trying to change the country for the better in go move somewhere else".
so the only solution to this is to go move? nah, it can't be to bring awareness and try to make the situation better, right?
so i should just accept that kids are getting shot in the streets in my country? instead of trying to change that, i should go move?
you're right, it is a dickish comment. it's also stupid as hell. Certainly not. You must not accept that kids are getting shot in the streets of your country. However, if you really want to address the issue, address the problem. The problem is the degradation and erosion of the American family, not guns. See, this issue is similar to how so many choose to scapegoat the schools and blame schools for everything that is wrong in this country. Pretty silly! Again, the erosion of the American family carries a paramount amount of blame. But it is easier to blame schools. But, because we cannot legislate parenting, we blame everything else in the world because it's easy. May I suggest that easy is not always better or correct. But easy is the American way. So I do understand. There is pervasive erosion of dignity, integrity, character, loyalty and morality in this country.

as a parent need to be responsible and keep guns out of the hands of unsupervised kids?
Sorry must have misunderstood you....I guess they was unsupervised and well someone failed to educate them also...look people point out these "articles" and some how think that sh## is the norm. I'm just pointing out in my life experience it has not been the norm...or even a problem for that matter..and I'm not talking just me...Ive met thousands of people through my dealings with gun orgs and gun initiative's for the youth..and it's the same story for them...they/I educated the hell out of the youth on what will happen to you horse playing with a firearm...or being around anyone who does. So if I misread you my bad..but you did just say unsupervised again in your response to me....I have trusted my nieces and nephews in my home around firearms unsupervised before..why?? well they was raised just like my sons and I knew not 100% but 99.9% they would not screw around with them. But like I said what works for me and mine may not be good for you or anyone else...so it is what it is.

I don't carry often, and when I do, it's not a "macho" thing, at all. Same for me except I do carry often...I live where there is very little chance of being robbed or having my home invaded...that wasnt the case always...and sketchy wouldnt even begin to describe what I grew up in and what me and the wife had to live in at times..and I never thought of it as a macho power thing...I looked at like self preservation tool. Man I should avoid these threads I dont make my point clear very well and honestly Ive done all I could do with the people involved in my life...and people are entrenched in what they believe so it feels like discussing in circles.

McALLEN, Texas (AP) — A 19-year-old killed his mother and two neighbors before turning his gun on himself in a shooting that brought SWAT and various emergency vehicles to a rural area in Texas, authorities said Sunday. Uvalde County Sheriff Charlie Mendeke said Dylan Westerburg gunned down his mother Friday afternoon in their home near Uvalde, about 85 miles west of San Antonio. He then went next door and killed two brothers, Arthur and Phinny Norton, Mendeke said. Mendeke said investigators haven't determined a clear motive for the shootings. Westerburg lived with his mother in a small cabin about 20 yards from the Nortons' mobile home on the brothers' property. Phinny Norton, 60, had some "sort of romantic relationship" with Westerburg's mother, 42-year-old Jennifer Diane Jacques, Mendeke said. Deputies had been called out to the property in the past because of domestic disputes but "nothing violent," Mendeke said. Authorities arrived at the scene after a teenage witness called them. The teenage boy was with Arthur Norton, 58, when they saw shotgun shells and broken glass as they approached the Nortons' mobile home, Mendeke said. "Mr. Norton enters the house," Mendeke said. "The kid who was with him hears and sees a gun blast and sees Mr. Norton fall to the floor" before running to call authorities. When officers arrived they heard another gunshot. Not knowing whether there were multiple gunmen or whether the gunman was dead, authorities surrounded the homes and began evacuating people nearby. It was during that search that they found Jacques' body. The family's dog had also been killed. Mendeke said he called in about 50 to 60 officers from different agencies as well as a Texas Department of Public Safety SWAT team out of caution. Authorities closed the road leading to the property and they stayed there overnight. "I didn't know how many shooters I had in the Norton residence when I found the mother," he said. "You're looking at farm- and ranchland. You could get into a dangerous situation." The SWAT team finally entered the Nortons' mobile home on Saturday afternoon and found the Norton brothers and Westerburg dead inside. Mendeke said Westerburg had shot himself in the head. https://www.yahoo.com/news/sheriff-texas-teen-kills-mom-2-neighbors-then-202730288.html?nhp=1

That sucks. At least he didn't take somebody else with it, if there's any silver lining to that.

Don't get out much ? 3 continents 8 countries and innumerable domestic cities just last year so yeah I guess I get out a little . I could list a million things to do in cities that make DC look like Mayberry but guess what ? I don't go to dangerous neighborhoods to do those things . You like guns I get it but don't insult my intelligence by saying it is a necessity for you , it isn't , it wasn't and it never will be . Chances of you needing it and defending yourself with it are outweighed by the chances of you having it and it getting taken from you and having it used against you ...true story .

No one even knows I am carrying. That's why its called Concealed Carry.
I am just a happy citizen walking thru the park with his family. No worries about bad people for I am equal to them, no matter how big, fast or tough they are. I smile and wish them a good day as we pass. Life is good. No one will take my gun but they can have the bullets if they insist.

An 11 year old kid is not a psychopath because his daddy taught him how to shoot a gun.
It just means he isn't mature enough to handle the responsibiliy. It doesn't necessarily mean anything... he is either a psychopath or he isn't... learning to shoot a gun has nothing to do with that. If he is a kid who has anger issues and made a horrible mistake due to his immaturity, there is a chance he can be rehabilitated... if he's a true psychopath, there is no rehabilitation

One time I was at the gun range target shooting. There was a dad teaching his kid to shoot, the next stall over. For me it was horifying. The kid was maybe 10-12. I did not feel comfortable at all. There should be an age limit on that. You would have had a heart attack if you would have been around when I was a kid. At 11 I was going to the shooting range uptown by myself. How did I get there? I walked all the way up town (around 2 miles) carrying my gun and ammo. I had no parents around. I knew how to handle the gun. I knew about gun safety. I knew I could kill somebody if I shot them, and what would happen to me if I did. I built a shooting range in the field behind my house so that when I went to the Boy Scout summer camp I could get my marksman's badge. I have nephews that bagged their first deer at or around 11. Teaching your children how to safely handle a weapon at an early age ingrains that habit in them. I still remember my father's instructions from that age. This story has nothing to do with gun safety instructions for this child. It has to do with why in the world would an 11 year old think that it was O.K. to kill someone over seeing a puppy and how in the world did he get access to the weapon?
The Constitution shall never be construe to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms. – Samuel Adams

ugh....ahh man this sucks. this looks like either a double suicide or murder-suicide. Two Teen Girls Dead in Shooting at Arizona High School https://www.yahoo.com/gma/two-teen-girls...topstories.htmlTwo 15-year-old girls are dead after a shooting at a Glendale, Arizona, high school this morning, police said. The shooting was reported at Independence High School, about 12 miles outside of Phoenix. The two teenagers were shot just before 8 a.m. in an "isolated" area of campus, Glendale police said. Officers found both girls dead at the scene from a single gunshot wound, Officer Tracey Breeden, spokesperson for the Glendale Police Department, said at a news conference. She said this was not an active shooter situation. The girls were found together with a weapon near them, Breeden said. Both girls were in the 10th grade, she added. Police do not believe there are any outstanding suspects, Breeden said. The incident was isolated and the school and neighborhood are now safe, according to police. "This was not any sort of active shooter incident and there is no danger to the school or community at this time," police said. Police said the campus was on lockdown. Police had no knowledge of any threats to the school, faculty or any individuals, Breeden said. The investigation is ongoing, she noted.
