http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/02/11/keenan-reynolds-jake-coker-dont-get-combine-invites/

The NFL will hold its annual Scouting Combine in Indianapolis later this month and the league released the list of 332 players that have been invited.

Ohio State leads the way with 14 invites and Notre Dame was second with 10 players asked to go through drills for NFL scouts. Alabama had nine players invited from their national championship squad, although quarterback Jake Coker was not one of them.

Coker has good size at 6’6″ and 236 pounds, but evaluators would seem to feel that his limited experience as a starter and reliance on a talented supporting cast didn’t make him a candidate for a longer look in Indy. Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds didn’t have the same kind of talent on hand on his way to scoring an NCAA-record 88 rushing touchdowns, but he also didn’t get an invite to show whether his skills might translate to another position at the professional level.

Missing the combine doesn’t close the door on an NFL career. Doug Baldwin, Julian Edelman, Sam Shields and James Harrison are a few players who have gone on to success in the pros without running drills in Indianapolis.

Am I missing something? Doesn't Reynolds have a 5-year military obligation he must serve before he can enter the NFL?

I'm not sure how his commitment comes into play. I have seen him projected to some teams, so maybe there is a loophole.

The Patriots had a long snapper this year that played for Navy and currently serves in the Navy.

Maybe the Navy works something out with guys like him. ALA, you come to this many recruiting events and be an ambassador for the Navy, and you can play in the NFL. Maybe recruiting and a longer length of time in the Navy reserves?

Keenan Reynolds should be at the combine though. That's not right

I guess Coker will have to turn some heads at the Pro Day. Good thing Alabama will probably have every team there to scout so he'll get just as many eyes on him as he might at the combine.

don't quote me on this...but I think if he gets drafted he can have that commitment dropped to 2 years??? If he chose to take it. Not sure if we were in War time???

I thought that I read somewhere where guys who are in the service academies can serve 2 weeks/year, and defer the rest of their service until their football career ends.

2 weeks a year would mean the reserves. I think it's being done as a case by case thing.

Not too long ago, I remember a guy that didn't get drafted because he couldn't get out of his commitment. The LS for the Patriots actually goes to his military job after practice every day.

This guy must think he has a way to work it out or he wouldn't be trying.
