Funny I see this article today after having mentioned his name in another thread, but heck let's refresh all our memories (Daman that was for you lol) - remember our seventh round corner/gamble/possible steal/possible useless 7th rounder (as most are anyway) Ifo? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...ning-to-action/Cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu collected the money his insurance policy guaranteed him following his knee injury, but Ekpre-Olomu said on social media Monday that he’s “close” to being able to return to the field.
The Browns drafted Ekpre-Olomu in the seventh round last year knowing that he’d be a redshirt in 2015 and far from certain to ever be able to contribute. In an Instagram post, Ekpre-Olomu said he’s been working towards returning to full speed.
“I’m not quite 100 (percent) yet but I’m close,” he wrote. “And in the next couple of weeks I’ll show you some of the progress I’ve made.”
Ekpre-Olomu, projected by many to be a first-round pick, was injured in December 2014 in a University of Oregon practice. He collected $3 million on a loss of draft value insurance policy.
The Browns didn’t get much out of second-year cornerbacks Justin Gilbert and Pierre Desir last year, so there’s opportunity for Ekpre-Olomu to contribute if he can get healthy.
“Although this past year has had many ups and downs, I’m finally close to the point I want to be,” Ekpre-Olomu said in his post. “Now it’s time to get better as a player and person.” With Desir, Gaines, Ifo - I guess we're almost at max "project" space as-is so where does that leave our top pick corner Gilbert at with multiple years in and seemingly still "not" getting it? Can Ifo surpass everyone, even the Al' Mighty Joe Haden? Can he take Tramon's #2 spot or become another CB in our mix of CBs? Should we even be extremely harsh or judgemental of him if he "does" play and doesn't do a good job being he's technically not played at this level/coming off a bad knee surgery? I don't know, ya'll can discuss!

Even if they amputate the leg below his bad knee, he will still contribute more than Gilbert has. Everything else is a bonus.

I'm good with K. Williams, C. Gaines, P. Desir, and J. Haden. Bademosi to me is a more natural at Safety. the rest can go away

I definitely think that given the fact that he's sat out this long he should be given the usual rookie grace period with some added time just so he can get back into the swing of things.
WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM my two cents...

I think he's going to need this whole season to gain his confidence back, if he does.

Man, that would be fantastic. He's definitely a better corner than anyone we could get after round one this year if he's mostly healthy by the time the season comes around. It would be nice to not have to use a top 110 pick on a corner, and he has inside/outside versatility.

It may take another year for the knee to fully heal. It was a terrible injury, but he was such a talented player, the selection of Ifo was one of the good moves.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

Ifo...man that kid was good. His thighs were tremendous.
Hope we use him this year sporadically. Give him another year of healing and then let him loose. Not released loose as in the Kraken loose.
Gilbert will have this year to prove himself worthy to our Staff, Horton and Hue...if not he will not be on our roster in 2017.
jmho - I like Gaines, K'wan, Trent can be a spot starter or Nickel Dime guy. Haden hopefully will be injury free and back to Pro Bowl form!

Before the draft and the injury, Ekpre-Olomu was one of, if not the, top rated corner in CFB. If he can bounce back it'll be fantastic for the secondary.
I don't think the injury will be has hard to get back from as people think. Knee injuries aren't the "end" as much as they were in the past. Look at Gurley from the Rams. His college knee injury was as bad as I've ever seen and he was Rookie of the year. Iko has had over a full year. I think he can get his confidence back and get it done.

Almost a dead heat with Bowe and Gilbert at this point. Can he help us if healthy?

Eo, I thought last year was the year you mentioned.
I respect your opinions usually. What must he show us to be kept? I am beyond disappointed with Gilbert at this point. Time to weed the patch?

So bad he couldn't dress, not even when our secondary already blew.

I respect your opinions usually. What must he show us to be kept? I am beyond disappointed with Gilbert at this point. Time to weed the patch? Last year...there was something going on that we were not privy to. I mean we were desperate for CBs and we didn't use him. It was beyond sucking there was a rift??? I cannot say. New guys, they have no investment in the pick if he sucks I would expect him to go. I think him not playing had nothing to do with talent it was something else. Is it a fresh start? I think so but we won't let crap fly if whatever happened with the last regime doesn't change I agree he is gone. If it is a He Sucks that bad I guess we can expect him gone March 9th like some others.
I'm not going back on my word. I didn't see him play AT ALL to say nah he is a bust. As long as he is on this Roster the new guys will give him a shot. Last year we didn't really see any data base. If we do we should be able to say hey this kid is good...or man he sucks.
Last year he didn't really play for us to say any of that. Why my thoughts have extended a season. Hey as stated he could be outta here March 9th???

I think Gilbert will be cut before our first game of 2016. He sucks to much guarantee money to cut. on top of that a first round investment. they might but i would be shocked.

He sucks to much guarantee money to cut. on top of that a first round investment. they might but i would be shocked. just following up on that, it costs $4 million more against the cap this year to cut him ($7.6 million) than to carry him ($3.5 million) since his first four years are fully guaranteed. If I had to guess (and it's just a guess), since they will be on the hook for the same dollar amount across the two seasons no matter what, I think that if they cut Gilbert it will be when they go from 75 to 53. They're not going to use all their cap space I bet, so the cap implications probably finally won't make a difference, but roster management wise there's no real benefit to doing it before then. Might as well give a few months to see if this coaching staff can make him care first.

I kind of like how our CB situation is set up for the near future. Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but between Desir, Dilbert and Ifo, we have way too much talent for nobody to step up and lock down that second outside spot. This upcoming season will probably be another tough one, but I see someone beginning to rise to the top and begin to take control of the #2 position.
If that happens, Tramon and K'Waun can be moved to the slot, with the rest spread out as depth. We only need one guy to start taking the next step to have our secondary fall into place.
...and for all that is holy, please don't put Bademosi in at corner anymore.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Is there any reason you left out Charles Gaines? The guy we consumed our only short term IR for last year? I thought he looked rough but I can recall he recovered well on some and had made some nice plays. He could likely get better to. Far as I can see, I think Gilbert is done here and Horton will want nothing of him.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
