depends. people said J's were gonna be a distant memory. we see how that theory turned out.
Gucci, Louie Vutton, those fashion brands have so far stood the test of time. those are legendary brands in the world of fashion.
i think you guys aren't understanding that these are all cultures. Hip hop is a culture, not a music genre. the fashion world, it's a culture.
so within these cultures, you have legends. in the Anime culture, Dragon Ball Z isn't just legendary(haha who gets it), it's damn near God.
basketball is a culture, it's why when you get around a group of guys who ball, they will start naming people from euro leagues, D leagues, street ball and such, because it isn't just a game, it's a lifestyle for a lot of guys.
you can tell who balls, too. they always have jogging pants or shorts on, simple t shirts, ball shoes on and head phones around their neck, probably with a gym bag on them.
and they dress like that all the time. because it's a life style.
same thing with the military. its a culture. Most people outside of the military have no idea who Audie Murphy is. but the guy is a legend. he's the most decorated soldier in the history of the US military.
so it's not that we see things in a different light. what you consider legends, i do too. it's just that i understand what legends are within the lifestyle of a particular culture.

The Tampa Police Department is having trouble getting officers to volunteer to provide security for Beyonce’s upcoming concert, following the pop singer’s controversial Super Bowl halftime performance of “Formation,” which many critics have argued is anti-police.
Typically, off-duty officers volunteer to work concerts and sporting events for the extra income, but none have signed up to work security for Beyonce’s April 29 concert at Raymond James Stadium, which is expected to sell out, a local Fox News affiliate reported.
Police spokesman Steve Hegarty couldn’t say whether the lack of signups signaled officers’ anger toward Beyonce, but explained that the department still has “plenty of time to fill those slots.”
“We’re going to staff it because we have a responsibility to do that regardless of how controversial it might be, who the artist might be, or the politician might be,” Mr. Hegarty explained. “This is a couple of months away, so we’ve still got plenty of time to fill those slots.”
Tampa Police did not clarify if officers could be forced to work the concert or if officers already on duty that night could be reassigned to cover it, Fox reported.
Law enforcement officers and unions across the country have spoken out against Beyonce’s Black Panther-inspired halftime performance and her “Formation” music video, which invokes imagery of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Sheriff Robert Arnold, of Rutherford County, Tennessee, cited Beyonce’s video and her performance during a press conference Tuesday after shots were fired at his home Monday night, essentially blaming the pop star for the recent rise in police officer deaths nationwide.
Sad that many forget the plight of those in less fortunate situations, or never experiencing a world when you get pulled over for just your skin color. This doesn't help the police, at all, to do this.

So the Black and Asian and Latino officers were pulling over people due to the color of their skin?
Sad In the days immediately following singer Beyoncé’s anti-cop performance at Super Bowl 50, six police officers across America were killed in the line of duty.

Her halftime performance didn't help anybody either.
So, we're not allowed to comment on the apparent maltreatment of minorities when compared to Caucasians in regards to law enforcement?
Police kill more whites than blacks, but minority deaths generate more outrage
Analysis contradicts widespread views about racial targets
An analysis released last week shows that more white people died at the hands of law enforcement than those of any other race in the last two years, even as the Justice Department, social-justice groups and media coverage focus on black victims of police force.
Watch: An Unarmed White Man Just Got Shot By A Black Cop, And Silent Hypocrisy Is Everywhere
Much like the case in Ferguson, MO., an unarmed man was shot and killed by a police officer. But what’s different this time? Instead of the victim being black, he’s white, and therefore has garnered no media attention and no visits or comments from Al Sharpton, President Obama, or Reverend Jesse Jackson.
The victim, 20-year-old Dillon Taylor, whom family and friends say was unarmed at the time of the shooting, was shot and killed by a police officer, whose name has not yet been released, in Salt Lake City, UT.
According to Police Chief Chris Burbank, the shooting was caught on the officer’s body camera, but he did not say whether Taylor was armed at the time of the shooting, nor, after watching the footage, had he decided whether the use of deadly force was justified.
you need to look at the per capita rates. not overall.
we've been over this a thousand times already. you need to start paying attention.
whites are killed more than blacks because there are MORE white people than blacks.
take the population of blacks and move them to a random country, say china.
guess who's gonna get shot more? chinese people, because there are MORE chinese people than blacks.
but here in america, when you take the per capita rate, we are more than twice as likely to die from cops than white, despite white people more in population.
and there's plenty of other articles that site the same numbers, just in case somebody wants to pull the "source" card again.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
More whites SHOULD be shot than blacks. (and that sounds terrible if you take it the wrong way)
But yeah, blacks make up some 13% of the population, more or less, right?
It would only make sense that whites get shot more often, since there are more of them.
exactly, and i don't wanna get into why and how because we already had enough of that.
but i'm glad you understood just based off a purely statistical standpoint.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
i posted the per capita rate, for what seems to be the hundreth time on this board. if you wanna talk about maltreatment, go right ahead.
those numbers are from a purely statistical viewpoint, nothing more.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
Why would I not get that? I'm not only awesome, I'm intelligent.
One thing I don't get though, is, blacks make up 12.8% of the population? Or 13.8%? Last I looked, it was one of the 2.
I don't have a clue what percent of the u.s. is "white" though. What determines "white"?
For that matter, what determines "black"?
bro, that is a very awesome question(ugh, i just called you awesome). anyway,
so i was reading this article about the huge increase in interracial marriages and mix children, specifically between three races: hispanics, asians, and whites.
so for the most part, it's kinda clear cut who are labeled as african-americans. there are a few cases where you know, there are white people who came from South Africa, and they consider themselves african american.
but ok, so what they found was that a large population of hispanics actually identify as white. also, when hispanics and whites intermingle, the children are typically labeled as white, even though because of latino tradition, they will take two last names, one being hispanic of course.
the same was true for asian/white mixed, as they were more likely to self identify as white.
it's getting very tricky, with regards to identification of who from what demographic.
which is why i wish america would just do what europe does:
you're either american, or you're not. no color, no sub racial division. you're either american, or a green card holder.
also, with regards to mixed children, they are more likely to grow up self identifying their raced based off where they grew up.
so for example, if i lived in the hood up until my kids went to college, they would most likely be confused as hell because my kids look white, but they have the hair texture of my mom so they would identify as most like white(hispanic)
but when we move to the suburbs this year, and in theory if we stay there, they are more likely to identify as white(non hispanic)
it's nuts man.

Something we agree on ...it's a start.
Funny coming from the guy who has no problem calling a group rednecks, or grouping all whites together...
just can't win with you

I wouldn't be opposed to that but we are so damn hung up on statistics.. hell you post them all the time, as do I and lot of other people on here..
How would we know who to blame if we didn't know the killer was a 23 year old white, Christian, male, born in Idaho and moved to Nebraska, who made $32,000 a year, had a high school education, his parents were divorced when he was 13, and his sister is a hooker?
I mean we need these demographic statistics to prove who is to blame so we can make things better right?
maybe it's just the way we are brought up as americans, we see each other as numbers, and sub groups instead of just people.

What does that 'more than twice as likely to die from cops' really mean though? That would only be meaningful if whites and blacks, on average, acted exactly alike. Inequality of results does not necessarily mean inequality of opportunity (but it might).
The reality is that blacks commit more violent crime. That alone will almost certainly result in more per capita deaths to police. Then factor in other things we've talked about on here like how Asians tend to be submissive but blacks tend to resist more often and be more outspoken (or if this is wrong, please correct me, but this is a fairly common argument that has actually been used against me on here).
Take the murder rate for example. I'm using this because basically nobody is important enough to get away with murder. Murder rate goes roughly something like this (per 100,000)-- this is for race of the offender, not the victim:
European: 1/100k White American: 2/100k African-American: 15/100k African countries: most are above 20/100k [edit: some are above 20/100k, including several of the high population African countries but by number, most are actually more in the 10-20/100k range. It's complicated though because the reporting tends to be less accurate]
Only some South and Central American countries are higher.
I think it's fair to say (and the statistics bear this out) that groups with a higher murder rate have higher rates of other types of crime as well. So just saying that more of a certain race die to police is not evidence that group is being mistreated. Now look, I'm not going to completely discount your and Lurker and Clem and every other black guys' opinion on this. I know you're not all lying and I don't think you're all wrong. There's gotta be at least something to it, right? But this narrative that white cops are going around shooting innocent black guys is wrong, misleading, and hurtful to those who are already in tricky/dangerous enough jobs as it is.
maybe it's just the way we are brought up as americans, we see each other as numbers, and sub groups instead of just people.
I agree with you about the subgroups and numbers.
My guess is that the black community would fight the loudest if you tried to do away with those types of things like race on documents ...
How would you administer affirmative action? How would you know what percentage of disadvantaged (black owned) businesses were getting government contracts? Those programs would all have to go away. How would you be able to prove that black schools perform worse? I mean, let's be real, inherently you would be able to know, but you wouldn't have all of this readily available data to prove it.
you're either american, or you're not. no color, no sub racial division. you're either american, or a green card holder.
I agree with this...I hate using whatever/American and whats funny is when I was young the black people I knew wanted to be called black...not Afro American...and couldnt stand being called colored. Maybe stuff has changed but I simply refer to black folks as black..not afro american not colored..just black.

I always thought that just going by color is fine e.g. black/white/red are all probably fine and if nothing else, they are easy to type. It's when you start deviating from that (blacky, whitey, redskin) that run into problems.

I hear you man...I tried to raise my sons with no color..just man, woman, girl boy...ect...unfortunately they got reality and the labels began in kindergarten or so...
That's the hard part where the black community would have to suck it up and meet people halfway.

That's when it happened for me... on the very first day of Kindergarten.
Robbie Butler.
"Are you colored, or do you just have a good tan?" "I don't know what 'colored' is. I'll ask my Mom after school."
I remember it like it was yesterday, because it was the very first time I actually made My Mother cry... by asking a simple innocent question.
My Mom was an artist/painter/musician/philosopher. Deep thoughts ran in her head daily. I could talk to her about anything. Years later, I asked her about that day, and why my question brought her to tears. This was her answer:
"Bobby- I cried that day, because I knew that it was the last day that I could protect you from The World. I cried because The World had taken your innocence away from you, on your very first day away from me. I cried because I wanted... I needed more time."
There are soooo many layers to America's race issues that I couldn't begin to cover them all in a forum like this. Over the years, I've toyed with the idea of writing a book about it, from the POV of a bi-racial "mistake baby" born between the end of Jim Crow and the formal start of the Civil Rights Movement. I stall out every time, because- where do I begin?
In 1956, when I was born? At the end of 'The Roaring Twenties,' when My Parents were born? Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation? In 1619, when Human Beings were transported across the Atlantic Ocean, to be used as farming equipment?
FB: you saw what My Momz saw... at about the same time in your child's life. It couldn't have been easy for you. Now- put yourself in My Mom's place- having to explain to her 5 year-old son how America works... and why the word "Colored," "Black," "Af/Am," "N-Bomb" will be attached to him for the rest of his days on Planet Earth.
I had just turned 5 years old when I made My Mother cry. I'm 59 years old now... and the same **** brings me to tears in 2016 that made her cry in September of 1960.
As a species, we're supposed to better than this, by now. We have a crapload of work that still needs to be done.... Because we ain't "there," yet.
which is why i wish america would just do what europe does:
you're either american, or you're not. no color, no sub racial division. you're either american, or a green card holder.
What group(s) of Americans do you feel would be for such a policy, and what group(s) of Americans do you feel would be absolutely against it?
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
i think a large portion of every racial group in this country will be against it.
some more than others, but still very large, if not majority portions of every demographic would absolutely hate it.
make no mistake, in one way or another, everybody benefits from labels and and sub racial divisions in this country.
H1B visas? congrats if you're from India, China, or Japan.
ivy league school? they already know who you are, especially when they look at the high school type. cloud 9 for whites. hell, college in general.
affirmative action? hi black people.
agriculture, construction, or the MLB? latino's, rise up.
and those are generalizations, but let's be honest, those are pretty accurate.
now, before somebody goes "well, in my experience", we aren't talking about your little hole in the wall town, we are talking about the entire country.
