Browns owner tells fans to expect 'significant improvements' in 2016By Ryan Wilson | CBSSports.com February 18, 2016 3:52 pm ET A year ago, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said he felt "sucker-punched" by the notion that the organization was a perpetual trainwreck and he was the conductor. Then the Browns went 3-13, their worst record since 2000. So, yes, trainwreck is an apt description, even if it came as news to Haslam. Another offseason brings more turnover in the front office, on the coaching staff, and in a few weeks, at the quarterback position when the team cuts ties with 2014 first-round pick Johnny Manziel. And Haslam wants beleaguered fans to know that this is the year it all comes together. In a letter sent to season ticket holders, the owner talked about another difficult season in the books and how new coach Hue Jackson will be the man to right the ship. "Your support and loyalty to the Browns is beyond compare, and as the stewards of this franchise, we take to heart the task of rewarding your incredible passion," Haslam wrote, via Cleveland.com. "We are fully committed to providing you a winning football organization that properly represents you, our great city and fans. "We are devoted to making significant improvements and giving you a team that you can be proud of for years to come. We greatly respect and appreciate your unmatched dedication to the Browns, especially during home games in 2016 that will feature our AFC North rivals, along with premier matchups against the Cowboys, Patriots and Giants." There's more good news: All that losing means that the Browns won't be raising ticket prices for the seventh time in eight years. But if Haslam is right, that will change in 2017. On one hand, we've come a long way from the owner's 2012 proclamation that he's "fired up to the max" about owning the Browns. On the other hand, the organization continues to be one big clown car stuck in neutral. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-foot...vements-in-2016

Well compared to last year, if we win 6 games, that will be considered a significant improvement.
If our defense goes from last in the league to average, that's a significant improvement.
Let's hope he's right.

We about hit rock bottom last year, so yeah - there should be improvements. Kinda only one direction to go after you've traveled backwards for so long.

Talk is cheap.
There is one thing they did "significantly" do........raise some season ticket prices last year

Check the fine print.

Bro..... What if we go 2-14, or pull a lions and go 0-16? I don't think we'll be a winning record team, but with that said, and gosh I sure hope - we don't regress even more to a 0-2 win season. Ouch to even think/consider we could have an even less of a product.

With better coaching, which I feel we now have IMO, we should be better. If we have a good draft and FA period we can be much better. By much better I mean 7 or 8 wins. Other teams have done and it's about time it is done here. We are due.

"Improvement" with better coaching, yep, that is the reason I believe we will see improvement.
Also, I expect a better performance from the Browns management team as well.
Haslam gets himself in trouble when he starts expecting too much...I will settle for "improvement", without any specific numbers.

In that premise of Haslam saying the Team will Improve Significantly...was it stated in a "OR ELSE" connotation?
I mean 2015 was our worst since 2000 so that probably goes without saying.
Not that it takes much for making me a BELIEVER that is what I do. But I really like the make up and organization of what we are doing. I like the strong HC always did. I like the coaches in general. Since Butch this is the first hire that was our primary target, well since Mangini actually who I still think was our best HC. Just wrong place at the wrong time and Kokinos!
Anyways, always liked Horton, many know his system from 2013...many don't but doesn't seem like the hardest to install.
I like what I'm hearing about Shelton. Any confirmations out there that he Slimmed down as I heard??? He actually could be quite good with more speed!

I like what I'm hearing about Shelton. Any confirmations out there that he Slimmed down as I heard??? He actually could be quite good with more speed! 1) Haslam never said the 'the team will improve significantly'. What the letter sent out to season ticket holders and likely written by a PR staffer said was We are devoted to making significant improvements and giving you a team that you can be proud of for years to come.2) Here is a link to an interview with Shelton yesterday on WKNR. He discusses his need to drop some weight for the upcoming season a couple minutes into the interview. Shelton Interview

Thank you for the clarification of the significant improvement.
Shelton it was from the Horton presser recently. Pretty sure Horton stated that he trimmed down.

I am going to Vegas in a month. Anyone want me to put any money down? March Madness?? Wow. How dumb am I? I didn't even realize that was going on (I don't watch college basketball). I'll be there the 21st to the 24th so I'll miss all the crowds.

The sports atmosphere was something else.

Remember 22 years ago, when we heard that coming back was going to be a success.
Remember 15 years ago when we heard the same message as this letter.
Remember 12 or 13 years ago when we heard the same thing.
And again 9 years ago, and 6 years ago, and again, and so on, and so on.
20 years, they've beat Pittsburgh twice, sorry correction , 3 times.
My biggest pet peeve of the Browns currently is this disposal of Johnny Manziel. Here is why.
Good or Bad, continuity, somehow, someway, must apply for the team to have some sort of an identity.
( A young married couple moving into their 13th starter home in 6 years, talking about, come on over to our housewarming party. )
It takes time for a new plan to have any success in the NFL, fact is this thing was BLOWN UP AGAIN!
I don't know how to deal with this anymore!
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Jerry Jones on Jimmy Haslam: “I’m totally convinced that the Browns are going to be a factor as we look to the years ahead,” Jones told Steve Doerschuk of the Canton Repository. “Jimmy Haslam came into the league as one of the very best owners that we have. I’d put him in the top five. Right now.
“I recognize that he hasn’t had the success. Not everybody does early on. We didn’t have early success. But he’s firing at it. He’s committed. He works just as hard at this as with anything he’s ever done.” http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...five-nfl-owner/Jones is the most powerful owner in the league, whatever that is worth.
