And further, as far as Pres. Obama, while he hasn't blatantly played the race card, he has subtly. My guess is you haven't seen it?

He was elected as our president as such I believe we have to give our support to him as such. That doesn't mean don't ask tough questions or make him bring forward meaningful idea's it means respect the office and the voter who put him there. I have never seen that from the GOP its always been about hate.

I wasn't in love with Bush or Gore when they faced off against each other and I was no fan of war that's for sure but when Bush stood in front of the American people and said we MUST take Saddam out he is plotting and planning to use WMD against our country I understood it was his job to protect our country and its people, so I supported him until that is I learned he was lying or ignorant. The point being I supported him because he was our president. I have never thought for a moment that Obama has received that level of support ever from the GOP on any issue.

It's to the point where if I were him I would say I was against something I was for and vise versa if I was for something just to be sure the GOP would guaranteed go the other way. That's bad for the country and its people and the GOP has lost most Americans in the process good ideas come from everywhere and good ideas should garner support regardless of where they come from. Just like if Obama puts forward a good SC nominee they should confirm that's what's best for the court and the country and its people.

I was fixin' to do just that.

The only word that stuck with me from living in the south was/is Bubba...everyone is Bubba and Ive tried somewhat to quit doing it..but I like referring to people as Bubba. Ironically it was my sons nick name when he was a baby. He hated it...when we lived in Virginia everyone was Bubba and suddenly he liked it...I still call him Bubba.

Thats funny a girl I met my senior year said that word..she wasnt a steelers fan but did say yinz...I dumped her after a short while...I couldnt stand hearing that word...and that was in or near Castalia Ohio.

Oh, Dawg- that takes me back to my childhood.

Our best family friends had some country cousins visiting for the week. Our FF's were so close back then, My Sis & I call them Aunt Mary Ann & Uncle Paul, even though we're not actually related. We were at their place in the country at least once a month for YEARS... running through the woods, riding their horses- it was a blast.


Anyway, Uncle Paul's relatives were up from Georgia. All us kids were playing in the back yard, and were planning to go to their tree fort in the woods out back, when one of the GA cousins sauntered up to us and asked:

"Chew fin tadoo?"
What?
He repeated himself. I was still lost. I looked at Billy, who just shrugged. He was as lost as I was.

Finally, Bill took him into the house and said: "say that again- hey Mom! What's he saying?"

"Chew fin tadoo."

Aunt Mary Ann started cracking up. Laughing so hard, she was leaning against the fridge, weak in the knees.

"He just wants to know what you're planning."

I was still lost.
Turns out, this was his question:

"What are you fixing to do?" which is still jacked-up, if you ask me. The sentence was so elided and slurred-over, it came out as:

Chew (short for "what you" or "whatchew"

fin (Fixing---> fittin'---> fin)

tadoo (to do?)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Republican-led Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday ruled out confirmation hearings for any U.S. Supreme Court nominee from President Barack Obama, aiming to slam the door on his ability to name a justice who could change the court's balance of power.

Chairman Chuck Grassley and the rest of the committee's Republicans sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell saying they will not hold hearings on a nominee to replace conservative Justice Antonin Scalia until the next president takes office in January. Scalia died on Feb. 13.

McConnell afterward said the Republican-led Senate, which must confirm any nominee, will refuse to consider any Obama selection to replace Scalia. McConnell said he was not inclined even to meet with whomever Obama picks.

With the U.S. presidential election looming on Nov. 8, Republicans are aiming to allow the next president to fill Scalia's vacancy, hoping that a Republican will be elected.

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid condemned McConnell's stance as "obstruction on steroids," adding: "Gone are the days of levelheadedness and compromise."

The Republican action potentially derails Obama's choice for the court before he even announces the nominee. His selection could tip the nine-member court to the left for the first time in decades. Since Scalia's death, the court is split 4-4 between liberals and conservatives.

"This would be a historic and unprecedented acceleration of politicizing a branch of government," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said after the committee's announcement.

'FULL AND ROBUST DEBATE'

The Republican committee members wrote that they wanted "to ensure the American people are not deprived of the opportunity to engage in a full and robust debate over the type of jurist they wish to decide some of the most critical issues of our time."

"That's the consensus view. ... No hearing, no vote," Judiciary Committee member Lindsey Graham told reporters after leaving a private meeting of the panel's Republicans with McConnell.

John Cornyn, the second-ranking Senate Republican behind McConnell, said, "Correct," when asked by Reuters whether the path forward on any Obama nominee would be to deny that person a committee hearing.

Grassley had previously left open the possibility of convening hearings.

In remarks on the Senate floor, McConnell said, "Presidents have a right to nominate, just as the Senate has its constitutional right to provide or withhold consent. In this case, the Senate will withhold it."

McConnell said even Vice President Joe Biden had argued back in 1992 for postponing action on Supreme Court nominees during an election year.

Biden made the statements in 1992, when Biden was Senate Judiciary Committee chairman. Biden has since said he was speaking hypothetically because there was no Supreme Court vacancy at the time.

We've already had this discussion. I'm pretty sure we determined that there were a couple on here that were ok with it but most were not ok with it.

But evidently the republicans in the Senate have wet their finger and stuck it in the wind and determined that catering to the more vocal hard core is more important than risking further alienating the rest of us.
