I tell you what Dawgs, I'm so sick of turning on the news and watching the crap they think we are interested in seeing. The news today, even my beloved Fox News treats me like I'm an idiot. They start me off with a couple of directionly challenged whales. If the fat Baxters make it to Lake Erie I'll harpoon them and turn the oil into gasoline. Then we have the adventures of Linsey Lohan and Paris Hilton trying to get home from the bars. Imus ( big deal ), How long were they worried about "Who's the Father of Anna Nichols kid? The Media controls a lot of how we think, who we vote for and many other things. Its like every station is now Channel 19 with their sensationalism. The Duke rape fiasco? The media went running to Al & Jesse as soon as the story broke. What did they think Al & Jesse were going to say? "Lrts wait for the whole story to unfold before we condem those White boys. Yeah right. I think they work at turning the races against each other. But if that was the case why didn't they even mention the Black guys that raped the White couple and burned their bodies. Well sorry about the rant but I was sitting watching the news this morning wait on my coffee and wondering if Linsey was going back to rehab when I learned that Rosie and Elisabeth had a fight.

It is sickening, but they hvae a jbo to do. Keep simple people entertained, Jerry Springer style.
Any intelligent educated person understands that most of what the news spills out is garbage for the masses, more entertainment than news anymore. All I can say to you freind is, grab something, and read it, otherwise your probably listening to what has been spewed over for weeks if not months by people who read it sometime ago.
JMO and not that you don't read. I am just agreeing with you that the news is a joke. When Anna Nicole baby daddy becomes prime time news and NOT just a (blech) Entertainment tonight special, you have to know they are just grasping for viewers.
If I wanted to hear about deviant celebrities I would go to Perezhilton.com, not CNN, and I wouldn't watch the news, I would watch (blech) ET.

Anyone who holds the FOX News channel in high regards I have a hard time dealing with. Also do not agree with killing whales if that is what you implied.
I do agree on the racial ambulance chasing that Al and Jesse do. I was talking to my wife yesterday or the day before about this and it would be nice to have a strong black leader like MLK Jr. who actually strived for positive change.
In terms of Anna Nicole, Paris, Lindsey, etc....completely agree...waste of time. Unfortunately, they do it for ratings, so most people must care???

Sorry, but Fox News is the sorriest excuse for a news channel in the history of the world. They are the most blatantly biased media outlet there is. When they're not blowing sunshine up the GOP's ass, they're feeding us BS about reality TV and celebrity gossip. If all you watch is Fox News, you must have a really skewed view of the world and reality in general. But it sounds to me like you're finally seeing the light Dawg. Kill your television!

MLK couldn't get any press today, his message was plenty controversial 40 years ago, but somebody with that same message today, would get drowned out... plus, most white people would love him and agree with him.. and where's the press in that?

Do people really care or do they just think they are supposed to care? I mean if something is newsworthy, then they should care about it right? And if it's on the news then it is, by definition, newsworthy...

Not sure if that's what he was implying or not... but are lost whales "newsworthy"... I guess a little bit.

Or, in the case of Fox News.... simple minded individuals with delusions that their government is infallible and it is un-American to question what they are doing. By the way, did you happen to catch that two-hour American Idol finale? Well, if not, we've got exclusive access to all the Idol Mania you can handle. Stay tuned for Fox News at 11.

Remember the Panda watches they used to have in the 70's and 80's? Was that newsworth? I think a 10 sec update on these whales is worthwhile. I find it much more worthwhile then what celebrity had a DUI this weekend or who so-and-so was spotted with in Las Vegas.
I agree most all news stations have a bias in some fashion. But Fox News is a like an SNL parody where they say "Fair and Balanced" and then proceed to agree with republican view 99% of the time and only have on right-winged supporters as hosts. If they, instead, came out and said they are the right-wing news corp, then I would have more respect for them.
I do like Tim Russert, as I think he asks tough questions no matter who the person or what the subject is. He plays devil's advocate very well.

Somebody mentioned something to me that I think is "at least PART" of he problem................................ TOO MUCH DAMNED NEWS TIME AND CHANNELS! I lived closed to the Dayton area most of my life. Here, the "top" news station as far as quality staff,is CBS Channel 7 for local news. Which is fine. When I was a kid, there was 30 minutes alloted for local news. And usually, there was enough "newsworthy stories" to fill up a half our with weather and sports factored in. But now? NINTY damned minutes of it? It's Dayton frickin' OHIO! Not New York! There's not 90 minutes of newsworthy events IN Dayton! So we here about the latest "disease or illness" that MIGHT KILL YOU! (only they forget to mention only 1 out of 5,000,000 get it) Gardening tips, celebrity news and a host of other time wasting, nausiating bull crap! We get more "empty news" than about anywhere I've EVER seen! Plus, look at cable. Now we have how many 24 hour News channels now? CNN,MSBC,FOX,and yes, more on the way! So how are you supposed to fill all of this time with "news" when there simply isn't that much "news? You put fluff and filler,or as I call it,"non-news" in there to eat all of this time. It makes perfect sense. I wish I could remember where I heard this from again?

That's the baffling thing - if you gather a room full of 100 people and ask them 'Do you care about Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan?', I'd venture to guess that about 90-95 of those people would say 'no'.
The media in America (and many, many others places in the world) dictate what you watch, what you talk about, what you find interesting...what's scary to me is that many other countries are forced into this choice by government...we're free to reject it...we don't. We just sit there and watch whatever they decide we should watch and talk about, and we talk about it and engage with it, even if we find it ridiculously moronic.

Sick of the media? Today on Yahoo---after the cavs won their game--they had this ridiculous little nugget posted along with the game analysis: James draws criticism for stand on Darfur issue May 28, 2007 By PA SportsTicker LeBron James must have given hundreds, if not thousands of autographs in his three years of NBA stardom. It took just one polite "no" to a different kind of autograph request recently for the 22-year-old forward to stir up a hornets' nest. James was asked to sign an open letter, written by Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Ira Newble, condemning China's government for contributing to the genocide of people in the Darfur region of Sudan. "China cannot be a legitimate host to the premier international event in the sporting world - the Summer Olympic Games - while it remains complicit in the terrible suffering and destruction that continues to this day," Newble wrote. China is thought to buy a huge amount of Sudanese oil. The African country is then said to spend much of that oil money on obtaining weapons and technology from China. Sudan is also accused of arming the Arab militia, the Janjaweed, who in turn use the weapons to murder innocent people in the Darfur region. Newble's letter was signed by most of the Cavalier players, but not James, who said he didn't have enough information about the issue, or Damon Jones, who refused comment. James has a huge contract with Nike, a company that has business interests in China, while Jones is to endorse products from a Chinese shoe and apparel company. As James is one of the best players in the NBA, and a captain of Team USA who is likely to run onto the court in Beijing when the Americans attempt to regain the Olympic gold medal, it is not surprising his decision has led to a lively debate. A political activist website, thinkprogress.org, wrote about James' decision not to sign and that led to varied comments posted on the website. A person calling himself 'Badmoodman', wrote: "James has a $90 million deal with Nike, which has huge business interests in China. The Darfur issue passed by LeBron with a big SWOOSH." There was a more sympathic view of James offered by someone calling himself Chris, who said: 1) LeBron James is a basketball player, not a policy-maker. He's 22 years old, still a kid. 2) Signing a piece of paper that says "I will not be a witness" saves how many lives? Then someone who called himself Shane posted this: "Americans can't be bothered standing up for their country, their soldiers or the constitution. Why would we expect some athlete, no doubt with a neocon agent and manager telling him what to do, to stand up for people with no money who will never buy the shoes he hawks." Former United State Senator and New York Knicks star Bill Bradley did not mention LeBron James by name, but also spoke about the issue in a story published on www.bloomberg.com. "You have to decide what it is you want to use your celebrity for," Bradley said. "It's conceivable that some people will choose to never do it, in which case it's unfortunate. There are bigger lives that can be led." As is the case with most star athletes these days, they should be admired for their actions on the court, not off it. web page

This country is celeb crazy and always have been. They are all idiots and I could give 2 craps about Brad Pitt, Anna Nicole, Paris, or anyone else in music/movies.

I got sick of the media about 6 years ago, I watch the local and national news maybe 2 times a year, and 1 of those is for turkey bowling on thanksgiving which is hilarious. Unless a major tradegy strikes, i stay away from the news, even then, they are horrible, exploiting victims and others just for ratings.

Here's an idea that works, DON'T WATCH THE NEWS! I don't, it's pointless. To tell you how little I care about "news" I guess some chick or guy drowned in Aruba or something a few yeas ago. I was at a party WITH A FRIEND THAT'S A NEWSCASTER and he and his wife (who is a dear friend) went to Aruba on their honeymoon to the bar they were last seen, I asked "who's (whatever their name was) they thought I was messing with them. Then I told them I avoid news at all costs, they couldn't believe it and wished they could be more like me. Avoid the news, you'll be much happier. NEws is sensationalism of violence, it's the downfall of American society. Be like me, don't watch - when enough people do it - they'll have to change their stories to get their sponsors back.

I stopped reading after paragraph one, that's disgusting and NOT news. It gives ideas to sickos. Whoever did it should be tied to a chair and blugened with a bat and then thrown in a lake to drown. Stories like that are why I refuse to watch the news and if someone ever tries to kidnap me at gunpoint they are going to have one hellluva a fight on their hands, if they don't kill me - I will start at their kneecaps with the gun when I take it from them, then move to the elbows and then one to the gut. Then I call the police and proceed to kick them senseless until the police arrive.

I have to disagree that it's not news. I've watched a lot of crime shows in my day, and that is probably the most appalling crime I've ever heard of. but at any case it has to be reported to the public. not at the language the writer used in the article, but nonetheless it has to reported on. if the media only reported on positive stories and topics it would create a false sense of reality to the public. I think at times the media is too negative, but you shouldn't report on just 1 side.
I think the parents should have say in how those devils die. that would be fair in my book. lethal injection is too easy for these animals. they should have the same thing done to them to what they did to those innocent victims. they need to die a slow death if you ask me.

YEap, news is crap nowdays.. Ummm, lets just say, T.V. is crap these days. Yeah, thats it, it's the WHOLE TV THING.. I dont even allow my kids to watch it anymore.. The whole news thing is being dragged around because of the " fear factor ".. People like to be informed, and the Corp. thinktank knows that we are in a war, and we want to hear about all the stuff going on around the world, so they think.. Like take the war coverage, for instance.. USA spends 500 billion dollars, we want to see whats going on, right? It's called " pulling the wool over our eyes ".. O-OOOO, Paris is in trouble again, great, now I cant leave the house, because I need to know how much time she will be serving.. The media, IMO, is fueling every bad thing, making us " paronoid ", keeping us on the edge of the chair..
Remember years ago, before TV, family was family, things around the house where differant, kids spent time with the family, dressed proper, spoke better english, just values where differant.. News is now " a drag thru the mud " show.. Lets get into everyone business because they make great money entertaining us.. TV is the big picture, it's just the news that sticks out.. Remeber this, your life is not private anymore, and from here on out, it's only going to get worse.. They tell our kids not to do drugs, well, ummm, my kids didnt know what pot was till they heard about it on TV.. THANKS CNN, I appriaciete it..
You see, every morning before school, I had my kids watch the news, so they know what the world is like, more of a history learning tool... Well, not anymore.. NOT APPROPRIATE, ...
Forget it, I'm done, I am really getting fired up, because everything now-days SUCKS.... MANO MAN, what I wouldn't do to time warp back to the 40's.. I wasn't alive then, but life was life, you did your thing, and didnt run your life from influence's of TV..

Really DC? Not from the stories I've heard.
Actually, the stories I heard, lead me to believe it was just as bad,if not worse. I know my mom used to talk about the movie stars of her childhood FAR MORE than we hear about Britney.
From the way I hear it,far more of the "war news" was information provided by the government than anything else. A far higher percentage of propeganda in war news than actual "news".
But some people feel that was better. You know, spoon feeding people what you "want them to hear" rather than the truth. Of course, what is "the truth"? You watch two different channels and you get two different versions of "the truth". So what does it add up to?
We get more now,but not "facts". Just different versions of "the truth".

Sick of media? No. Sick of people trying to tell me where to get my information and what my opinion should be? Yes.
One must remember that all media is biased, and no media outlet are truely better than another. CNN is obviously biased liberal. Fox News is biased conservative. MSNBC is seems to be moderate liberal, but slides along that middle line to suit their mood. My local stations are very pro military, as I am near a ton of military bases. I read CNN.com because I like the format, but I also read several other news sources. I figure the truth is somewhere in the middle of all these differently biased reports.
Ever since CNN trumped the entire news world by having reporters get stuck in Baghdad during the first Gulf War and the rise of other 24 hour news agencies, news reporting is little more than a race to get the story out first. Most of the reporting is now inaccurate, with corrections and retractions coming when no one is watching or interested any more. The reporting situations that occured during the Duke lacrosse rape incident should be investigated, and the reporters and agencies that tried these kids in the media for ratings should come under fire.
I just always try to remember that these guys are no longer reporting news. They're selling news, and they all may as well be tabloids.

Actually, the stories I heard, lead me to believe it was just as bad,if not worse. I know my mom used to talk about the movie stars of her childhood FAR MORE than we hear about Britney.
First, there were far fewer "stars" back then.. back then you actually had to accomplish something to be a star for the most part... so you take the 40 legit stars back then and figure there are 400 now... and I'll bet there was less "news" about them... Yes I know there were star struck people back then but it wasn't like it is today... not even close.

You mean the days when the lead war news story was how the brave soldiers achieved an objective, captured a hill, or an island, took control of a town, and liberated thousands... as opposed to now where the lead news story is the grieving mom and dad of a soldier who died in combat... or in the past when the image you might have received was a 4-star general triumphantly meeting with local dignitaries and being honored... as opposed to now where you are more likely to see a 4-star general with his head hanging low, apologizing for being mean to the enemy.... Yea, things are SOOO much better today. In fact, they are SOOOO much better, we quite likely might never win another war because of how good they are....

No DC,I mean how now we can hear BOTH sides of the story. Not just one misguided newsreel slanting everything in one direction. I can watch one channel to hear "rah rah" and one to hear "boo hoo".
Both have an echo of truth.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
