I know there other positional threads like my OLB/DE 3-4 thread and a WR thread. I'm sure you would find your answers there. Hey if none suit your need of a thread mak one and demand no QB talk. ???

Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
I have liked Goff since I saw him play against tOSU in his freshman year and he has done nothing but get better and better ... Here is my scenario, trade down to #4 with Dallas and pick up their 2nd and 4th rd. picks this year, S.D. is in need of OL and Dallas is looking to bolster their Defense and @ #2 Bosa and Jack will be there for their choosing, making Goff available to us @ 4,and we now own picks 32 and 35 plus another 4th rounder, I want Goff but we need more if we can get it ...
At #4 they will still have their choosing of the top defensive players.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?
John 3:16 Jesus said "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
Goff saying that speaks to his maturity. If we're being honest, going to the Browns would probably HAVE to terrify just about anybody, right? But he said nothing like that. He casually shrugged off the potentially dangerous question, and made it a non-issue. I've said it before, but I'd be happy with either Goff or Wentz (assuming our talent gurus give them both the thumbs up). I don't see us trading down, so if we like the two QB's (or Lynch), then we're going to get one.
It is my hope that when we draft our next QB we finally have a coaching staff that has enough brains on how to develop him and take care of him so he doesn't get beat up and thrown to the wolves like our previous young QB's. I feel in Hue Jackson we do have a guy that is smart enough and knows how things should be done. As always with my Browns I hope for the best and support our new people.
I think too much is made about starting right away vs sitting a year. I think either can work if the Qb has talent.
I think a more important issue is developing them. Don't throw a whole playbook at them in training camp and expect them to be proficient by the start of the season.
When Big Ben and Brady took over as rookies, they were given a half field to read. If it wasn't there then throw it away. Then as they developed the basics of NFL concepts and established a sound foundation then their responsibilities get expanded.

Jared Goff excited about possibility of Browns drafting him at No. 2
"Whatever team I go to, I’ll be excited to go."
There ya have it. You can take the word "Browns' from the title of the story and replace it with any one of 31 other teams and it would mean as much.
No kidding. On the radio I heard what he said and then saw this thread. I had to read it twice to see if he actually mentioned Cleveland. He is excited to play anywhere and thinks he is the best QB in the draft. That's it. Nothing about Cleveland in particular.
As tab would say ... BOZOs.
Goff has been asked the question. His reply is consistent. Even though I don't believe he'd be happy if drafted by the Brown's. Who would?
Quote:
The NFL Draft may still be a couple months away, but former California quarterback and one of the top quarterback prospects in the draft, Jared Goff has already been asked about the possibility of joining the Cleveland Browns. In an interview with Peter King of The Monday Morning Quarterback on Monday, Goff was excited about possibly being the Browns next franchise quarterback, where previous quarterbacks have “gone to die.”
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Thomas Jefferson.
I was just thinking about this for a moment from looking at just the title of the thread. Is he excited about the Browns, or is he excited about the money a NUMBER 2 pick gets? LOL

Then add..
Put some talent around them quickly to block, run and catch..
Don't change OCs every year for their first 2 or 3 years so they can learn a system...
Don't boo them and call for them to be replaced after their 2nd bad game...

To the Goff pimps. Now that it has come out that he has 9" hands. Which could mean nothing except that I learned today (read a post elsewhere) that might be true???
Goff in his 3 year career fumbled 23 times? Which is what the fear is for a QB with smallish hands.
Are you guys not worried about it? Or is it a deal breaker. Do you move onto Wentz or Lynch or was it Goff or nothing. No QB at #2 for you? I know that would be how I would think it if Wentz got caught with pot or something. No Either or...

Unfortunately or Fortunately QB is the only position of NEED that heightens their Draft Board Status due to position.
For some that might mean a Wentz goes from 50 on the board to 15 Some it might mean Wentz goes from 11 to #2. Just using him for an example.
If we go strictly BPA it just might be an OT.
Me, yes, I'm hooked on Wentz and excited. But if we decide not to go in that direction (honor the new guys judgement) I want the best Defensive player on the board.

I liked Goff and I wouldn't say it's an absolute deal breaker but it certainly is a negative against him... and it's not just the fumbles, it's also the ability to grip the ball when it's cold (and wet) and rumor has it, we play a few of those games every year...
I had Goff at #1 with Wentz closing in on him.. this might put Wentz ahead for me.. now I just have to figure out whether Wentz at #2 is something I would do...
I don't think the small hands thing is a big deal. The gloves they have out now are pretty amazing to grip the football with. He would have to get used to playing with them on if he needed them though. Not a deal breaker in my opinion. It might be a signal from Hue, or it might be a smokescreen.

Mike Vick had small hands, and he seemed to have no problem hurling the ball on us in that 2003-04 final regular season game. He was accurate and throwing that thing with heat.
I would like Hue to do some things to put him in these situations in a private workout though. Put the ball in a freezer (make sure it's inflated how he wants it though) and then dunk it in a bucket of water. Then have him throw it. Maybe make him put ice on his hands as well.
Also, why not test him out with a glove on?
I'm sure our analytics crew will delve into this topic. Thing like how he faired in wet games vs dry games. Then how QBs with larger hands did in these different scenarios. It's hard to see about the cold ones with Goff because he is a west coast guy.
What I wonder is what the difference is really between 1/2 an inch? I mean is 9 vs 10 that big of a difference? I checked today and I come in at 9 inches (8 15/16s really) and my wife is 8 inches. We put our hands up against each other and mine seem significantly bigger. I can throw a football better than her too..... lol
What I do agree on is that Hue's comments on this subject mean nothing. I don't think we will know which QB he prefers unless we are the team that picks a QB first....... The last thing we want is someone jumping to #1 on us if we want a QB (and even worse, them taking the one that we want most)
JC: I started doing research on the difference between NFL and College Footballs and found this very interesting. This is a Reddit Posting, with Matt Barkley (verified account). I have time at work this morning, so it's either watching Star Trek or learning about footballs and hand sizes, lol
Sounds like the NFL ball is easier to throw in crappy weather than the college ball. So that's a plus. Also, there's a lot of stuff teams do with the balls to help you grip them better.
So it's not like me with 9 inch hands out throwing the football with my buddy in High School (his father came out and threw the football with us when we were 14, and decided we were using the wrong ball, so he drove us to sports authority and bought the 80$ NFL one. "We needed the real thing", lol)
I would think that with 9 1/4 inch hands, Aaron Rodgers can throw the heck out of the football in the cold weather. And he likes the football very inflated. A less inflated ball, with 9 inch hands shouldn't be that much different I'd think..........
Goff is talented enough to overcome his average hand size.
Actually my point was smallish hands is a spec that possibly would not define a QB. It is said that the only concern with the smallish hands is if because of that he fumbles.
Which was my point. 1. 23 fumbles is that a correct stat? 2. Is that a high amount of fumbles compared to others? 3. If so that is in probably the BEST WEATHER condition Conference in the USA.
AFC NORTH probably the Worst in the NFL. How do you overcome turnovers...and you know NFL defenses are like Sharks with blood in the water...the kid will not know what hit him.
Small hand ok bid deal. FUMBLING because of small hands...PROBLEM! jmho

I don't know if that's a lot or not. Keep in mind, he started 37 games in college.. I also don't know if a botched snap counts as a fumble on him, etc..
What would concern me is that his INT numbers and his fumble numbers were both up in his senior year compared to his junior year... I don't watch much Cal football, did they have OL issues this year?
Good luck to anyone who proves that any QB consistently fumbles because his hands are small.
My guess is that Goff fumbled as much as he did (23 is a lot of fumbles) because he was playing behind a terrible offensive line and was pressured quite a bit. Goff only had four fumbles in 2014.
1. If you apply Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000-hour rule to Cal quarterback Jared Goff, you may find an explanation as to why the junior is so effective when he is pressured. According to ESPN Stats & Information, over the last two seasons, Goff has thrown 16 touchdowns and no interceptions when blitzed. Keep in mind that Goff has started all 29 games of his college career, and he already is the Bears’ career passing leader (9,101 yards). My point: Cal also allowed 62 sacks in his first two seasons. Goff may not have seen 10,000 blitzes, but he’s been on his back enough to know a blitz when he sees one.

His fumbles numbers were not up. He only had four in 2015.

I'm sure there are individuals with smallish hands that do not fumble often.
But again possibly you are a Goff pimp? But I see 23 fumbles in Good weather environments - I see his hand size is 9" below what is considered small hands for an NFL QB.
Just a coincidence??? NOT ANY...Proving Goff fumbles because of smallish hands is not such a hard thing. Unless you are a believer in Coincidences.
Sorry but there is no way Goff is picked at #2. -0- %
Now there is One Wentz. Small hands? Small School one will overcome the negative.
jmho sorry I take no pleasure in eliminating Goff. I was fine if Hue took him over my guy. Now its safe to say NO WAY HUE TAKES HIM. He might not deem anyone worthy???
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
My problem with Goff is he has some amazing throws, but then he has some god-awful, what in the world was he thinking throws.
I also question his ability to put on weight. He's said that he's put on 10 pounds every year since high school, but where is that weight going? I don't see it in his arms or legs. His appendages look like a high schooler. Maybe I'm spoiled by seeing Mick Mariotti's results, but I don't see any definition on him. I wonder if he just has one of those body types that can't add weight to his limbs.
You mess with the "Bull," you get the horns. Fiercely Independent.

Um, I would say that fumbling in 62% of your games is pretty high. Now I realize that he probably didn't fumble in 23 games as he most likely had multiple fumbles in a game or two, but still that is a high number.
Carson Wentz - three fumbles in seven games in 2015 Jared Goff - four fumbles in thirteen games in 2015
Also, does the number of dropbacks a QB has make it more likely to fumble or less likely? Which QB passes more?
This is a non-issue.
How many "dropbacks" did Goff have period? Did he play under center at all?
I know at least one of Wentz' fumbles was a read option mesh issue.
I think comparing the two QBs' stats is pretty meaningless as far as fumbles.
Can Goff sell a pump fake with his smaller hands? Can he handle a wet/cold ball? Can he rely on his arm to make a throw when he can't tie his whole body together?

Hopefully our front office and coaching staff will figure these things out.
There are QBs with similar size hands and body type that do fine.
