Daman...to put the "you are not alone" comment in context you have to include the previous sentence too.

Here are the two sentences...

"Manziel's father, Paul, told the Dallas Morning News on Feb. 5th that he feared Manziel was suicidal and that without help "he won't live to see his 24th birthday.

Browns coach Hue Jackson told cleveland.com that his first concern was Crowley and that his message to Manziel was "you are not alone.''


After reading both sentences, IMO, there is no doubt about what Hue was referring to with his "you are not alone" comment.

Yes, Hue became coach of the Browns because he was suicidal.

Could also be translated as "We're watching you, punk.".

Could mean where your going you won't be alone. There is plenty of people just like you!!

Sorry, plenty of people like you in jail.

Johnny's a bright guy. He scored well on the Wonderlic. He's just a young guy having fun, and there wasn't an overwhelming amount of evidence before he was drafted to suggest that he was a moron who had no chance to excel as the leader of an NFL team. Just a young, bright guy having fun.

Well, there were plenty of reports that he was a party animal in college. In and of itself that's not a huge character flaw, most of us were to one extent or the other. I don't remember reading anything about him that was remotely like the lunatic that he's turned into.

What I didn't like about Manziel was I just didn't think he could play and be successful in the NFL. Nothing to do with anything other than I didn't think he was a fit.

I won't bore you with who we could have had, let's just leave it at we could have had our franchise QB for the next 10 years if someone in the FO would have done some home work.

BY the way, I've since changed my mind on his abilities. I think he can be an effective QB in the NFL, way better than I ever thought possible, but he's got his head stuck so far up his butt that I don't ever think it will happen.

I'm sad for the young man, I truly hope he gets it together,, just someplace else please.

Yeah, those comments really piss me off. Getting drunk and striking a girl is not "just a young guy having fun..." and when morons like Von Miller go public with comments like "Manziel is on the right track now" and etc - it's even more toxic and adds padding to the fact that all Manziel has done, that is WRONG, is okay and easily forgivable.

It's no longer having fun or partying, it is and as stated - destructive and abusive. It's a problem. It's likely why when he gets cut, his agent (if he even has one) won't be getting much interest.

His comment was about what was known at draft time.. not what has happened since.

That said, there were red flags that we was "young and having fun" to an extreme and that it could be an issue. Then again, there is what we know... compared to what an NFL team should have known about a potential first round pick after doing it's due diligence and talking to as many people as they can.

I defended him, I fought for him, I wanted him to succeed.. I can admit that, I was wrong.

Thanks for correcting me, I hadn't followed their full discussion to know it was directed pre-draft era/time. The writing was and has been on the wall the whole time though. Paul Manziel's comments about his son should have made Ray Farmer vomit at the thought of bringing him here. "should have" anyway.

Yeah. It's pretty insane how this whole situation turned out, it's certainly not unbelievable or unpredictable. And that's the saddest thing about this.

Well, that would make sense. This trip was ~2/7 - 2/11... and Mike Evans' wedding was 2/17. Could have been a bachelor party situation? Mike Evans' twitter has a ten day gap from 2/5 -2/15. He is tweeting from his honeymoon in Tahiti and has >5k tweets. Could have been Mike Evans.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Browns coach Hue Jackson used his national platform at the NFL Combine to confirm that the Browns are done with Johnny Manziel as soon as they can cut ties.

"Well let me say this about that,'' Jackson said. "I knew that question was coming. But I think we all know and understand that we made a statement two weeks ago about Johnny Manziel and I'm going to stand by that and I think his future on our team will be addressed here pretty soon. But let me say this: I think it's really important, that obviously there were some people involved in this situation that happened, and I feel very bad about those things as they do happen.

"But I want to make sure we all understand that that behavior will not be tolerated. That's all I want to say about it. I want to leave it at that. Our organization is going to take a stand, and we're going to move on from those kind of situations as we move forward.''

Manziel is facing domestic violence charges by the Dallas police and could be charged by the end of this week. His ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, has secured a protective order against Manziel for two years and has said Manziel struck her so hard she lost hearing in one ear. Her lawyer, Kathy Kinser, told NBC5 in Dallas that Manziel punctured her eardrum.

She also said Manziel threatened to kill her and himself during their argument on Jan. 30. In a statement on Feb. 2, Browns Executive Vice President Sashi Brown made it clear that Manziel will gone as soon as possible, which is March 9 when the new league year opens. A source also told cleveland.com that the club will waive him that day.

At the Super Bowl, Jackson told cleveland.com that his first concern was for Crowley and that he hoped she was OK.

In a follow-up question about Manziel in the hallway after his podium interview, Jackson seemed exasperated.

"I think you guys have all seen it said that we've tried to reach out to Johnny,'' he said. "Again, we've talked about Johnny enough, haven't we? I'm being honest, we made a statement and I want to stand by that, because it's the best way to be and that's where we're going to leave that.''

Jackson stressed that he wants high-character guys on the team. The Browns will have to make a decision on suspended receiver Josh Gordon if he's reinstated; and their edge rusher, Armonty Bryant, pleaded not guilty to felony drug charges on Wednesday.

"Every situation's different,'' Jackson said. "I think they all will be weighted and thought through. But I do, I stand on that, I want guys that have high character and guys that have high football character. And I think those two are a little different. Obviously there's been some things well documented about some players here and again I take them on a case-by-case basis and see if they fit exactly what it is that I'm talking about when I'm saying that.

"But I'm not going to bend them, I don't think you can. I don't think this day and age in pro football that you can. I think it's too important, and I think it's too important to the football team and too important to the organization.''

As for Gordon, he said, "It's like any other player. I think I will go through the process of spending time with him and see if it's the right fit for us. Obviously he's a very talented individual, but at the same time, it's got to fit right for us as we move forward in this situation."

He said he's spoken to Bryant about his drug charges.

"You'd better believe I have. We're good,'' he said. "We'll be fine. I think he has talent, but again, it's not just about talent."

Man, I thought I would never like anything Bungles, but i'm really liking Hue so far. I liked Pet too, but it seems he was more show than go, I hope Hue can walk it like he talks it.

The Dallas detective investigating whether Johnny Manziel hit, kidnapped and threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend is currently working a two-week rotation in patrol, delaying filing possible criminal charges in the case.

Police officials said last week that investigators expected to determine whether they will charge Manziel with a crime by Friday. But the investigation has been delayed because the lead detective on the case is patrolling the streets as part of a community policing program recently revived by Dallas police Chief David Brown.

Brown revived the two-week patrol program in an effort to reduce slow response times. But in a message sent out to the department this week, he said officers can volunteer to do their two-week assignment in communications — technically another desk job.

Brown wrote that the officers will follow up by phone with low priority callers while patrol officers deal with the emergencies and urgent 911 calls.

The Dallas Police Association has criticized the use of detectives and cops who work in other areas of the department in patrol. They say the effort isn’t effective in reducing crime — many of the cops haven’t worked patrol for years — and creating a backlog of cases.

DPA president Ron Pinkston said Wednesday that the constant shifts in strategy are confusing.

“The department is in chaos,” Pinkston said.

The detective investigating Manziel is juggling working in patrol and continue to work on the alleged domestic violence case, Pinkston said.

The case garnered a lot of attention after Manziel’s ex-girlfriend 23-year-old Colleen Crowley applied for a protective order against the Cleveland Browns quarterback. A Tarrant County judge granted the request.

Crowley has said that the former Texas A&M star hit her left ear so hard her eardrum ruptured, causing hearing loss.

Pinkston said that it isn’t just high-profile cases like this one that are delayed by detectives working in patrol.

“A normal case wouldn’t get that type of priority and a complainant would have to sit for two weeks to get any movement,” he said.

Actually no he didn't make it clear that he'd be gone. He said the situation will be dealt with as soon as possible. I do agree that he's getting cut, but I can't believe reporters don't take the time to write the facts..


Hue Jackson sure made it clear that that behavior won't be tolerated.

I remember (barely) discussions on this board about high character guys vs low character guys and how some didn't care about character as long as the player excelled on the field.

I think Manziel is one of many perfect examples of guys that have talent and waste it by being self absorbed children.

I love reading that during the interview process, Hue made it clear he would move on from Manziel. The guy didn't even need to be here to know there's nothing but trouble, setbacks and drama engulfing that individual.

And I love how he responded to the question after he left the podium. "we've had enough Manziel talk, right" (not a 100% exact quote) - we have better things to discuss than him and I love how Hue won't let the media bully him with Manziel Mania. Finally, peace and etc seems reachable, and within grasp!

March 9th can't come soon enough for the Browns. Haha.
