I'm not comparing to see which is the better sport as I have a deep respect for both . MMA is the more demanding IMO as the athlete has to master multiple skill sets in order to gain entry into the upper echelons. Boxing is the sweet science though and still captivates me when I watch two superior talents in the ring . Politics in boxing caused me to shy away from it after the late 90's when the big names refused to fight ...ever . Who wouldn't have wanted to watch a prime Holyfield fight a prime Tyson ? Mayweather vs Pac Man 10 years ago ?

You and I used to have some good boxing conversations back in the day.

Larry Holmes' left jab.

Hearns' reach.

Haglar's hooks.

Leonard's will.

Benitez's defense.

Tyson's ferocity.

Like you, I really don't follow boxing anymore. The sport was corrupted by suits.

I am not a fan of any other type of fighting. Can't stand watching two men locked in an embrace.

I long for the old days of boxing.

i enjoy both also. two totally different animals though. i laugh when someone says so and so from the mma would kick the stuff out of so and so from boxing... using who's rules though?
for entertainment reasons i choose boxing any day. i love watching grappling when it moves, but when the action stops and they just lay there seeming like hours, it stops being entertainment to me.
i think $$$$ killed boxing and without a doubt it will eventually do the same thing to mma.

tradition can only carry you so far, then you have to start winning again.

College and Olympic wrestling are pretty intense. I'd say they're my favorite fighting sports.

The earliest Ultimate Challenge Fighting (with Royce Gracie) was also very entertaining (watching a 178 lbs man beat much larger, stronger opponents)(to the point of death).
